Great Hotel in good location”

Staff performance, room quality, pool

The Monsane River Kwai Resort & Spa is a cute little resort out of town and right at the river. It offers a quite ans relaxing atmosphere, the staff is friendly, supportive with good language skills. The pool is an asset and well maintained. You have a good start with the nice breakfast at the river terrace. The room is simple but clean and with a nice pool view balcony. You need your own transport here but the hotel can organize a motorbike for rent. You get a good value for your money, it's a nice place to relax and to discover for some days

River Kwai Monsane - Kanchanaburi”

Boutique resort away from the tourist district. It has a fabulous view of River Kwai and excellent pool.
Bathroom design need to be improved with proper shower stall. Entire bathroom gets wet.

This is a family run boutique resort about 5k away from town, located away from the tourist district. The ambience is laid back and very peaceful. The resort is by the River Kwai and has a small beach with some usual water activities e.g. fishing, kayaking, tanning etc. The river view is breathtaking. This resort also has an excellent swimming pool. Breakfast ambience is relaxing beside the idyllic river, with the resident chickens crowing and clucking away begging to be fed.

Great Location but small rooms”

On river/lake Kwae, outside city, quiet, nice pool and riverside restaurant

monsane hotel is nicely located along the river/lake with a very nice riverside pool/restaurant and a pleasant view. even has sandy beach. it is just outside the city so need to have transportation for city visits. had booked superior, and when shown room thought they were 'short-changing', but got a nice riverview upgrade when we asked (mid-week). rooms are small. really no space for any international luggage. clean room, nicely made up, but bathroom initially offered the thai lack of waterlock smell. although reception didn't seem too active, everyone was friendly and nice. breakfast (both thai and american) was limited. had one dinner, expensive for thai, but not bad. overall - a good deal with the price, but i'd suggest removing bulky furniture for a little more space, and taking the extra thb and providing a good breakfast [bacon with eggs] on the nice river/lake front restaurant in the morning.

Relax by the River”

Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere during the day, nice pool and beachfront area
Watch out for Karaoke nights!! Cockrel helps you rise early (as does the perpetually piped New Age music by the pool)

The Monsane has the feel of a boutique resort - it is small but the space is well used. Rooms are very clean and though small they are comfortable and well maintained. Thought could be given to providing reading lights in the rooms though. The food here is decent and the hotel is well connected for trips to Erewan and beyond Kanchanburi via a bypass road. Good Spa services and friendly chickens - breakfast is decent enough though lacks variety. Better when rising early!

quite a large room, a balcony

During i stayed at Monsane River Kwai Resort & Spa for 4 days, unluckily, there was a group seminar at this hotel. more than 50 people. they stayed 3 days/2 nights. concert every night but they stopped before midnight. after they checked out, i found another group. louder than the first group. i was lucky that i checked out. this hotel is for the group seminar. if you look for a quiet hotel, i recommend not this hotel i stayed at the 2nd floor. the water flow in the bathroom was horrible. i took more time for shower.

a curates egg of an hotel”

the staff including the nightly musician, the swimming pool, the views from the open air restaurant.

this is the third time my wife and i have stayed at the monsane in the past 16months, we love it and will return, but it would not be an ideal choice for many. access is the main difficulty as it is at least 5ks from the town centre and a car or extensive use of songtaews is essential if you wish to go out. once you get to the hotel it is in a good setting with a good child friendly pool and great views from the reasonably priced restaurant, the food is of a good standard. if u wish to drink spirits then take your own to the table, as is common in many thai restaurants. The menu is a problem as there is virtually nothing catering for western tastes and there seems to be no effort by the owners change this, however to be fair most of the rooms are occupied by thais. in short a good hotel. a rare haven of peace, but not within walking distance of the city, especially in the hot seasons.

Monsane”

Beautiful setting on the lake
Difficult to find if from outside of the area

Overall the Hotel settings and setup are first class.Only downside is that it is 10k from Kanchanaburi centre,so it's a taxiride back and forth. The only reason we managed to find the hotel was a review i read saying look out for the graval heaps at the roadside. To get to the hotel you have to drive/walk through the gravel works, which isn't the nicest thing you want to see.Once past that and you reach the resort its completely forgotten about as the setting on the lake with the views is pretty special. For a chilled out relaxing time the place is faultless.I would go back again but seriously consider hiring a car.

Gorgeous setting; Views across the river were amazing; Nice swimming pool; Spa facilities
Hotel is located about 15 minutes from the main centre of Kanchanaburi, so you will need a taxi or transport to get into the centre.

Lovely spa hotel and the views across the river are incredible. Sun loungers are on the banks of the river. The location is very relaxing and laid back. The swimming pool was extremely nice. A full spa menu was available but we didn't have time to sample it.

Very Friendly but has some Quirks”

Friendly Staff, Beautiful View, but Dark Rooms and Needs Repairs

Overall the stay at the Monsane Resort was very nice. The staff was incredibly friendly, the hotel food was great (which is nice because it's out of town so our dinner options were basically just the hotel), and sitting outside on the patio listening to live music (a guy and his guitar and keyboard) watching the sunset over the river was amazing. However, the room was much smaller than imagined and very dark. There was only one light and it was very dim. Also there are only Thai TV stations so after dark we were unable to watch TV and unable to read because of the lack of lighting. There were also some renovations happening at the Resort during our stay on the outdoor patio area. They seem to be much needed as the 'beach' area shown in pictures is quite dilapidated - hopefully with the repairs it will be back to looking the pictures. Overall a nice stay but next time I would try a new place.

Quiet, peaceful, lovely setting on the River Kwai, picturesque outlook
Not really a dislike - the rooster was a bit strident in the morning when waiting for his breakfast!

Beware of "central location". This motel is approximately 6 kms from centre of Kanchanaburi but was excellent. Very peaceful and relaxing. Staff were courteous and helpful. We paid a discount price on the deluxe room through the web - excellent value for money.

Clean and friendly accomodation”

Rooms were clean; pleasant and attractive pool and restaurant with nice view; staff was helpful and welcoming; rooms are affordable
Only one dim light in the room makes reading in bed difficult to impossible. Rooms are small. The hotel is difficult to find - turnoff at the gravel pit!

The hotel has a very helpful and welcoming staff and the pool/restaurant area is very tastefully designed with a nice view. It was relaxing to spend breakfast and dinner on the outdoor deck overlooking the river. The small rooms are adequate for sleeping but not big enough if you want to hang out and relax inside. Bathrooms are nicely decorated with stylish sinks. The lighting in the room is poor with one dim light shining at the foot of the bed. I had difficulty reading in the room. The rooms are affordable and if you spend most of your time out and about exploring the Kanchanaburi area you won't need to spend much time inside. Recommendation: have your own transportation since it is located south of the main part of Kanchanaburi.

Reasonable price, reasonable resort”

Location

The resort is located in a fairly good area. Closed to Kanchanaburi, gas stations & restaurants. I'm not too sure if they have other room types, but we stayed in the superior rooms. The room is small and the mattress is quite hard (not so relaxing). The toilet is average. Small, with no bathtubs. There are hot showers though at least. You get the view of the river from some of the rooms only (they let me choose our rooms at the time). The food at the restaurant is quite good, reasonable pricing too. You will also get a great view of the river from the restaurant, as it is right next to the river. We didn't get a chance to use the spa though. Overall I am quite satisfied with Monsane.

Ok rooms, too far from town”

Modernish rooms on the Kwaii river. For a hotel the food is quite good and ok value.
Far from the town (150-250 baht each way in cab), resort facilities are out of step with Kanchanburi and not of a standard which will have you lounging around the hotel.

Monsane Resort and Spa is too far from town to allow you to seamlessly interact with local restaurants and street carts which are of a high standard. The resort is too small to spend your days lying around the pool. Views are good, rooms are quite good and modern, however next time I will stay closer to town.
