Charming hotel, large room and helpful staff”
My wife and I had stayed at the Monsoon Boutique Hotel for our first week in Phnom Penh earlier in January and we had no hesitation about staying there again when we came back to Phnom Penh for one night on our way from Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap. The staff were unfailingly helpful, our room was large and comfortable, with a stylish bathroom that had a real bathtub and shower (a big plus compared to a shower that soaks everything in the bathroom! There is no elevator, but the staff were happy to carry our cases up to our room for us. The hotel is conveniently located a block and a half from the Riverfront, and there are numerous restaurants within walking distance plus a fun night market.

Loved our stay”
First time in phnom penh. Hotel located in riverside area one block back from the river. Good for walking along in the morning when everything quiet and peaceful. Lots of girlie bars, restaurants, laundries, panda minimart across the road. Can be a bit noisy at night. Close to blue ibis bus depot. Also night market nearby. We liked the hotel. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for them especially thom (as in not tom and jerry). Breakfast was ok. Choice of meal and drink. About five different choices i think. Suited us. Had eggs, bacon, toast, juice. Happy with that. Tea/coffee making in room so we made our own coffees. Had room with a balcony. Best to get a room either side of the center room so you can close off your balcony area and make it private. Otherwise you might get someone having a smoke in your space which being non smokers didnt do it for us. So room 4 on 1st floor and room 9 on 2nd floor are in the centre so ask for room either side of these rooms. Thats if it bothers you and depends how long you stay. The wifi was good, had no problems at all. I think we had deluxe room with balcony. Tv was great, lots of channels including the australia plus channel which we were rapped to get. We are not big on fancy hotels prefer something with a bit of character. Hotel booked our bus to siem reap with blue ibis bus, included hotel pickup. Liked the room, aircon good. Balcony good for viewing the vibrant streetlife going on below.. would happily stay here again and we did after we came back after 3 days in sihanoukville and before we went to siem reap. Traffic in phnom penh is shocking so be prepared. We were very happy with our stay at the monsoon.

Another Great Stay”
i just completed another great stay at the monsson hotel on street 130 near the riverside in phnom penh. the rooms are done to a very high standard for it's price level and the location is great, since there are many good restaurants on the street and it's central to any place a tourist might want to go in central phnom penh. the best feature at monsoon is the staff in my opinion. the are genuinely friendly and accommodating and will go out of there way to help you in every way possible. only 2 problems with monsoon; breakfast needs help and i think the hotel needs another water heater.

Great hotel, great location, helpful staff”
We flew into Phnom Penh and arrived at the hotel by taxi. The frontage of the hotel is small and set back behind some bushes, so it's not easy to find, but once there we were greeted in a friendly manner by the front desk staff and invited to have a complimentary fruit juice while our bags were brought in from the taxi. Then we walked up two flights of stairs (no elevator) to our room, following the front desk clerk who carried our bags. The room itself was large, with a separate area at the entryway with a counter, a kettle, and a safe large enough to keep our laptops and other valuables in. The bedroom area was spacious and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was large and done in a stylish modern manner. The hotel is a block and a half from the Riverfront where there are numerous restaurants and bars, and two blocks from a good-sized night market. We stayed there for a week initially and then for another night when we came back to Phnom Penh from Saigon, and would stay there again if we ever went back to Phnom Penh. The staff were friendly and helpful. All in all this hotel was great value for money.

Top location, beautiful room and marvellous staff!”
It is hard to say anything bad about this hotel - only small concern was the noise at night - but that's what you should expect when you book on the main strip in town! But thankfully this wasn't a problem as I was in town for a gig and got back late when the music had stopped - ok, I've said it! Everything else was exemplary! The staff were graceful and accommodating in in every way, even when the toilet broke (I daresay this is the old plumbing rather than the fault of the hotel) they were polite and had the problem fixed instantly. On arrival they poured us a drink, and were happy to help change our money and to recommend places to see. On top of this the reception hosts a great selection of information leaflets and maps to help even the most unprepared tourist have a thoroughly immersing trip to Phnom Penh. We booked a Deluxe Balcony room which did not disappoint, with beautiful wall art and a clean and spacious feel. The bathroom was clean and in itself detailed and artistic, with the extra large bathtub being a wonderful addition. The balcony itself overlooks the main street and this brought a touch of excitement to contrast with the peacefulness of the room. TV is good quality with plenty of channels, also a well stocked fridge (at some additional cost). Aircon and other amenities worked perfectly. Breakfast was pleasing on both occasions, I went for the omelette and my partner for the egg, which were both served with sides as well as juice and water. A good start for the day, not overwhelming but shared a classiness with the rest of the hotel. Location is also a big draw - whilst not right on the riverfront, the hotel is on the main bar street, and only a couple minutes walk from the river, and 10 or so from the night market/central market. Everything else is only a short Tuk-tuk ride away. In all, couldn't have been happier with our stay and would most definitely come back on our next visit to Phnom Penh.

"Lovely hotel and service with a smile"”
i liked monsoon boutique hotel on st 130 quite a bit. this is a brand new hotel and a few hiccups are to be expected. it can't be matched at it's price point in my opinion. a lot of thought has gone into the design of the rooms and they are quite lovely. monsoon features good sized rooms, large lcd televisions, and big bathrooms. the rooms in the front include a balcony. service was friendly and they go out of their way to help you. breakfast was included and was just adequate at this point. the location is excellent, st 130 has quite a few good restaurants nearby and the river is perhaps 100 meters away. i'll definitely stay here again.

Great Staff & Location ”
If you’re like me and like to stay by the riverside area while in Phnom Penh, then this hotel is great. Staff are exceptional; they really make you feel welcome. Rooms are cleaned everyday no matter what time you get up and toiletries are supplied gratis. Despite being flanked by noisy late night bars the rooms are quiet thanks to the design. There’s plenty of laundry shops nearby and loads of places to eat as well as a convenience store a stones throw away. Tv is good and even had live premiership football matches with English commentary. The only facility the hotel is missing is an elevator. I stayed on the first floor which was fine but higher floors could be an issue for some. I especially liked sitting outside the front of the hotel at night underneath the tamarind tree, watching the world go by.

A pleasant stay”
Rooms are ok, spacy bath rooms and 24hrs hot water though no windows. Staffs are super friendly and really helpful. Our Giantibis bus ran late that morning, the frontdesk girl kept help me calling the bus company to ensure the pick-up van is on the way. Though the hotel service and dining service have improved so much since my last visit a decade ago, Phnom Penh still remains a crappy dirty places. I could easily found my way around. this is somehow very sad. Since there is hardly any Chinese tourists here, I think I would skip the Chinese review part.

Great find, great location, modern design”
Lucky find at the last minute, came back from Kep for a night before my flight out of Phnom Penh and found the Monsoon on here. Lovely surprise, staff gave a nice welcome, room presented very well, was clean and airy with the large wall of windows out to the balcony overlooking the street. In amongst all the bars and restaurants was a short stroll to anything you could ever need, would stay here again...

A nice boutique hotel in the red light district.”
We arrived around 10PM and were supprised by the amount of adult bars in the street. Once in the hotel you dont notice anything from the nightlife outside. Its a really nice looking hotel with very friendly staff and after check in we went to our room on the 1st floor overlooking the street. We had a nice balcony where we could sit and watch the nightlife. when we went into the room and closed the door you didnt hear anything from the bars outside. And because of the milk glass there was hardly any light pollution. the rooms are clean and nicely decorated. and I loved the bathroom with a modern looking bathtub. Breakfast was good as you could choose from 5 different dishes (continental and Asian) and choice of beverages. The location of the hotel is really good. It's just a couple of minutes to the riverside and the Royal Palace. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around. And not just adult bars. We had a really nice time in this hotel and would certainly go back when we are in Phnom Penh. Dont let let the adult bars scare you away as during the day there are loads of other shops open and local life just is all around and at night the bars keep to themselves and you can sit quietly in front of the hotel with a drink without anybody harrassing you.

Exclusive family like hotel with smiles”
The hotel is located about 500 meter to river water front, situated in a busy branch road, even though it was difficult to sight the hotel from distance away, but provides excellent good feeling after entering into the hotel. We were provided excellent reception with welcome drink. We were very happy with the room setup and enable us have very quite and comfort sleep. Nearby have many convenience services and walking along the water front is also a pleasure relaxation. We are sure to stay in this hotel on our re-visit to Phnom Penh in future and will definitely introduce to friends.

Minimalist design, great service”
If you like clean, simple, minimalist design, the Monsoon Hotel will appeal to you (check out the images). At the time of staying the hotel had been open for less than one month, in fact it's official opening was happening on the day of my departure, so everything was very clean and the staff were friendly and eager to please. In fact from the General Manager to the cleaning staff all were extremely cooperative. There were some minor glitches that you kind of expect in a hotel that is still getting it's systems into place, but only minor things that were fixed quickly such as no bottles of drinking water in the rooms. I was travelling with a friend and we took two adjoining deluxe balcony rooms on the third level which meant that we had the advantage of sharing the street facing balcony that runs across the front of the hotel on all 3 levels. (five rooms per level = 15 rooms total). The balcony is an advantage because it means somewhere to sit and view the activity in the street below, however, it's worth noting that it is shared between the 2 rooms which means a lack of privacy if you don't happen to know your neighbour. As the balcony is accesible by guests from the three back rooms we had a noisy foursome access our space while trying to take a nap and they didn't appreciate having it pointed out to them that they really shouldn't be there, let alone have a noisy party right outside our rooms. We did speak to the owners about this issue and they are pondering the best way to prevent this happening in the future. Another disadvantage of being directly over the street is the noise. Many bars are adjacent to the Monsoon and they don't close until about 2am. Also, there's a small cafe almost directly opposite that stays open all night for the tuk tuk drivers and it's pretty loud continuously. After living in VN for 9 years, noise doesn't bother me, but my friend opted to move to a back room. Overall a great hotel to stay, I recommend it.

Pleasant. ”
I'm reviewing two hotels in Phnom Penh. Bougainvillier and Monsoon hotel. Extended stay for another week, so change hotel for a difference visit experience. Bougainvillier Hotel Bougainvillier is the larger hotel I initially stayed at. It has a nice basic lobby. Friendly staff and helpful although they were quite disorganized. Had to walk up 4 story flight of steps only to walk in to a room that was already taken. It was sorted that I would stay two doors down in another building but still owned by Bougainvillier. The room given was wide and spacious but, to have basic tv is a bit dated, as was some of the furnishing. No view period! It was a big dirty construction site outside the window But again, great friendly staff. Good location as its a walk to most things. Nice breakfast selection. Their restaurants are nicely decorated and more contemporary then the hotel itself. They should spend some effort to update the rooms. Monsoon Hotel Came here away from main river side hotel, but still in main tourist spot. A smaller hotel but more ambience. The room doors are just glass sliding doors. They were expanding in the adjacent building to include more rooms and a spa. So construction was happening. They did give me the top floor so as to not have to endure the rattling of construction. Rooms smaller then bougainvillier. But more ambience and nicer contemporary furnishings. Nice friendly staff again. View to street, restaurant, bars and businesses. Breakfast was the same list of 5 things. Kind of a let down. Like the spaciousness and functionality of Bougainvillier, but prefer the updated contemporary style of Monsoon.

Great Hotel! Recommend!”
Located just a few short minutes' walk from the Giant Ibis Bus Terminal, it was super easy for us to just walk here ourselves, rather than having to negotiate with the many tuk tuk drivers. Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful during our stay. Both the deluxe double and deluxe twin rooms were very nice. Very convenient location. Many cafes, restaurants, market, river promenade, etc., All within easy walking distance from hotel. Lots of bars nearby, which made it a little noisy in the early evening, but we had no trouble sleeping in either of the rooms we stayed in, as the building is pretty well insulated. Will definitely stay again on our next trip to Phnom Penh.

Good comfortable clean hotel in great location.”
Very pleased with the Monsoon Hotel. The location close to river and restaurants is perfect. The deluxe rom with balcony was good although balcony does not have view and it was generally too hot to sit outside room. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Breakfast very basic. Would book same hotel if come back to Phnom Penh

Great place!”
Will def stay here again if I visit Phnom Penh. great location - 1 min walk from main sisowath quay and riverfront. Excellent staff. Not terribly knowledgable about nightlife but very friendly and helpful otherwise. Beautiful and clean rooms. Lovely flower paintings on the wall. Modern, stylish decor with rustic charm. Love the bathroom design n flooring. Superb value! I paid $ per night but felt like I was staying in a $ hotel. Only cons - no swimming pool, and no lift. But 3rd floor is the highest. It was good exercise.

Amazing Boutique Hotel”
This turned out to be one of my favorite places I stayed over the course of 5 weeks. It was a fantastically located boutique hotel very close to the Royal Palace. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very well appointed with one of the more unique bathrooms I had seen - some great stone work. There was a good communal balcony area (I never saw anyone else) facing the street to relax on and breakfast was really good. They were also able to organize some tuk-tuk tours at very fair prices. I definitely recommend Monsoon Hotel.

Best of class in Phnom Penh”
We stayed here two nights and didn't want to leave the hotel. Rooms are wonderful with large sunked tubs and semi private balcony. We had been mugged in Phnom Penh and had a terrible shock as a result. This hotel took wonderful care of us during our ordeal. They were kind and lovely! The hotel is in great condition and has a modern look and feel, but still warm. If you go to PP, stay here, but be safe.

centrally located nice, clean, cozy boutique hotel”
There's never a dull moment when you sit out at the balcony. Bars are across the road,so there was no need to even go down for entertainment. Just sat at my balcony n watched from my balcony. Music from the bars was loud but didn't affect sleeping at all once the door was closed. Staff was really nice, helpful and friendly too. Computer at the lobby had lightning speed internet to my pleasant surprise. Atms, restaurants n sights all within walking distance. Some folks say Phnom Penh is like a cowboy town but I felt completely safe at all times. Laundry was fast too. I was late in giving them my express laundry but the staff obliged me and it turned up an hour before check out time, clean, pressed and packed to fit the but limited space in my luggage. But if you're the sort of traveller that wants quite and not be in the mix of all things local, the pick somewhere else. No regrets for me, I wanted to be in the heart of it all and this did it well for me. The housekeeping crew deserves top marks too.
