Lovely hotel in a great location”
My wife and I were looking for a relaxing and comfortable place that was affordable too. We managed to find a standard room at Mont-Aux-Sources that was within our budget. The hotel is located close to the Tugela Falls in the Drakensberg mountains, and as it turned out, it was the right place for us to unwind, clear our heads and simply breath in some clean air. When it did rain, we sat under the covered verandah and gazed into the cloud covered hills and the lush green valleys. Oh what a sight! We found the hotel to be clean and well-kept. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful too. The food was generally good, with a different menu every evening.

Breakaway disaster”
Spent the weekend from 19-22 Jul 2018 at Mont aux Sources Hotel (Orion) without electricity and a very incompetent staff unable to rescue the situation. Back-up generator not working due to neglected maintenance, sitting in dark hotel room at night without lights or hot water. promises made but not kept.

Dear Jurie Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience and we are so sorry to hear about this past weekend. We did have a bunch of issues with the electricity and unfortunately it was taking longer than usual to sort out and we are so so sorry about this. We assure you we are working everyday, under new management, to get the hotel and the electricity sorted again. Warm regards Mont Aux Sources Hotel
Beautiful and Scenic disconnection from the world”
The hotel is surrounded by beautiful mountains and close to the adventurous hiking trails. There are trails for beginners (even wheelchairs) and the more advanced. We ended up doing the Mahai trail and took a turn to Gudu Falls, highly recommended. The hotel itself is beautiful and retro. It has outdoor activities for the family such as putt putt, ball games, a swimming pool and even outdoor chess. The room we stayed in was a nice size and the bed was super comfy. I would advise to ask for extra pillows though, the ones we had were way too thin. If you have a choice, I also would advise to take the breakfast and dinner package, or just take enough food with that you can eat for lunch/dinner, as you're basically stranded with no other option than to go for the hotel dinner, which is good value for money at R160 at the time we were there, but may get a bit pricey for more than one evening. We actually just ate a huge breakfast that would take us through to dinner and then ate the dinner buffet. All in all, great experience!

Beautiful vistas,Games room closed for peak season”
the receptionist would rate a 4/10. not really an enthusiastic hotel fronter. lovely christmas programme-great entertainment team. sadly after the christmas day lunch buffet-there was no option of an a le carte menu for the evening-just yet another buffet....we couldnt possibly eat another buffet after a late lunch seating ending at 4pm so we were hungry at 9pm with no light meal offerings/room service option for a snack...so we went to bed a bit lean that night which shouldnt happen at any hotel. tennis court in an atrocious state-my husband tripped on the cracked court and sustained various bruises and abrasions.

Pleasant”
A lovely hotel, great location, nice rooms, friendly helpful staff (especially Ayanda on reception), great views of the stunning Amphitheatre. The free wifi is good too. But a couple of complaints: 1)Paying R110 for a breakfast omelette and R170 for a pasta dinner is just not on. I understand the concept behind a buffet, but there should be an alternative for the not-so-greedy. My advice is eat dinner at the truly delicious Tower of Pizza just down the road and open till 9pm. Instead of a R340 bill for the buffet dinner, we spent R150 on a huge meal at the Tower and it was divine. 2) One of my pet hates is when the hotel staff have the bar TV on their choice of channel. This should be monitored. I really don’t want to sit on the bar verandah on my holiday and have to listen to the news in Xhosa or, even worse, to soap operas like Isidingo just because the staff are bored. 3) The lounge has been “modernised”. The result is the most uncomfortable couches in the hotel world. The Berg is about lounging around in comfortable chairs reading and talking. The new couches are the sort you expect in a waiting room or an airport lounge. Please, all the couches should be like the comfy leather lounges in the bar. But you can’t beat the location and views. A very nice hotel and definitely worth at least a 3 Star rating (possibly more when you consider what you get in Paris for 3 Stars)

A fabulous location”
The hotel was potentially great but was in need of some work to make it so. There was a serious problem in the corridor of rooms 301 to 320 because water was penetrating the wall. This is almost certainly due to the lack of a waterproof membrane between the wall and the soil. This may be cured by excavating the soil behind the wall, taking care to prevent collapse, down to a level just below the corridor floor level. Then lining the wall with a plastic membrane, similar to that used for a pool, and for 1 metre away from the base of the wall. A porous pipe should be laid at the base of the wall and continued away from the building to a level below the corridor. The pipe should be covered with 20mm aggregate to a depth of 300 mm and the soil replaced to hold the membrane in place. There were other minor maintenance issues, such as the coving in the dining room etc.. The management were clearly excellent and had trained their staff to a high level but were let down by inadequate funding for general upkeep.

READ BEFORE BOOKING!! ”
If you are looking to waste your money while staying in unhygienic accommodation look no further. Unfortunately, we never read the other shocking reviews before booking, however, we did see Mont Aux Sources is a part of the Orion Hotel group, which we thought was a very reputable brand so we trusted the brand. Reception Service: after driving from Joburg, about 4 hours - We arrived at the hotel around. 10pm. We were greeted at the entrance gate by the security guard who told us no one was available to check us in to the hotel. After looking at him I’m disbelief and asking him what he expected us to do , he eventually said he would help us check in and we could proceed to the reception area. We then waited at the empty reception for over 20 minutes, until other guests went and called someone to assist us. After receiving our room card key, which had our room number scribbled on to it, we asked for someone to help us carry our bags and show us to our room. After another 15 minutes no one showed up, we went and found our room ourselves. After complaining the following day, the general manager, Ken, promised us that he was placing a night-duty manager to be on-site during that evening. He agreed with us that it is ridiculous to not have someone on duty in the night. The next day we went on a hike and for dinner in Clarens so we arrived back at the hotel late again, around 11pm. We checked to see if there was anyone on duty and there was no one to be found. We proceeded to our room looking forward to getting in to bed after a very long day. When we got to our room our key did not work!! We then had to mission all the way back to the security guard and had to beg him to help. He then woke up someone named Lebo who obligingly came out of her room, in her gown and assisted us with fixing the key. Still no one on duty! I really don’t know what would happen if there was an emergency. Rooms: The rooms are extremely unhygienic. Immediately upon opening the cupboards yo

Excellent”
We had a really nice time. The resort is beautiful with stunning views. The staff are friendly, help full and efficient. . Rooms are very stylish. Food was homely meals but good quality and very tasty and well presented and a variety and a lot of food. The only complaint would be the bar prices and would suggest a price drop in soft drinks as for a family of 4 of 5 people one round of soft drink could cost u up to r125.

Much understated”
Don't understand some of the negative reviews. Stunning location with beautifully kept grounds. Rooms were large, comfortable and spotlessly clean. There maybe the odd cosmetic touch needed but this did not distact from an excellent stay. Friendly and helpful staff completed what was a memorable stay.

Very good”
The hotel has amazing views of the Drakensburg mountains - I view one can never get enough of. My husband and I went during the winter period for a Gauteng girl the cold was a bit overwhelming. The hotel needs to invest in better heating for the rooms. Unfortunately on our first night dinner was not well planned out and the meat run out while a number of guests still needed to have supper. Plus the hotel was very low on waiters and runners on the evening. Despite that, I would gladly go back, the hotel itself is stunning, the staff friendly and did I mention those wonderful views...

Beautiful set up ”
Excellent reception on arrival with friendly staff. Room was ready for immediate occupation. Dining area staff friendly and always sevice with a smile. Hotel needs to cater for vegetarians and Hindu guests who do not eat beef and pork. Travellers from Gauteng to be warned of incomplete roadworks if travelling via Harrismith from the Bethlehem turnoff.

Great location, friendly staff”
This hotel is in a perfect location and beautiful setting. It is perfect for travellers planning to hike in the Royal Natal National Park which is virtually next door. The gardens are immaculate although the pool needs extra cleaning. The food was plentiful but basic. We stayed in a refurbished bedroom with balcony which was clean and adequate There are lots of improvements required throughout but hopefully the newly appointed manager will exploit the amazing potential of the hotel and significantly raise the current standard of food and accommodation

Wonderful get away ”
This hotel has been taken over by ORION Group and have a long way to go to offer the support to the amazing stand in general manager,Philippe whose professionalism and management style were superb. Thank you also to the stand in front desk administrator, Cheri who proved top class in dealing with very difficult circumstances. The hotel needs ORION to pick up it's socks and provide the support financially to bring this pearl up to its previous standards. Thank you to the chef for some of the best food and desserts ever.

Good location and Facilities”
Dinner was affordable and delicious. I dont understand why other reviews are negative. We had a great time. Neat rooms. staff were helpful as we had a flat battery due to the cold and they boosted us before departing. The staff also charged our phones at reception as we had forgotten our charger at home. only missing element was that we were on honeymoon and it was not acknowledged.
