Oasis in the middle of Chaweng Beach”
I loved my stay at the Montien House Hotel. The hours I spent reading hotel reviews online certainly paid off with this choice. We stayed in a one bedroom pool villa which I got for a great price by booking through Agoda. The hotel is in a prime location in the middle of Chaweng beach, close to restaurants, bars, shopping and pretty much anything you could ask for. The beach out front of the hotel is nice enough, but just a 5-10 minute walk south brings you to the clearest and most beautiful part of the beach. The hotel is just far enough away from the neighboring Ark Bar to not be disturbed by the club music that pumps out of there starting at 10 or 11am each day. The service at the hotel was fantastic - some places think good service means being in your face all the time. This place gets it just right - someone is always there when you need something but otherwise you are pretty much left alone. The one downside might be the small size of the main pool (which is often filled with children splashing), but with our own private pool, this wasn't an issue for us. I would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in Koh Samui.
In the center of action, but still a quiet place”
We chose the Montien House Hotel since it is at the beach and centrally located in Chaweng. It is also quite affordable. The rooms are reasonable, but a bit old. Despite its central location (very close to the famous / infamous and terribly noisy Arkbar Beach Resort), the nights are quiet, and you don't hear the noise of the surroundings. The hotel staff was very friendly and supportive, in particular Khun Nui. I had a problem with the door lock of my room, and they replaced the lock within shortest time. They also organized the airport pick-up and drop-off. The hotel has direct beach access, and close to the beach there is also a swimming pool - not too big, but ok. During high season, there might not be enough chairs around the pool. Since we were there in low season, there was no issue, though. Like many other hotels, during low season, some repair work and renovation is made. Hence, you might be faced with some noise during day time. We booked the rooms without breakfast, which is recommendable, since the hotel breakfasts tend to be boring and of lower quality. In Thailand you always find a nice small and inexpensive restaurant nearby. Therefore, we cannot comment about the quality of the food. However, we were a bit surprised about the drink prices in the restaurant / bar next to the beach and pool. They seem to be pretty exaggerated (220 THB for a Mai Tai is definitely expensive). For those who like to swim in the ocean, we need to issue a warning, however. This does not apply particularly to the Montien House, but to all beaches in Chaweng. Apparently, there are quite a number of sea urchins around. Two of our group stepped onto sea urchins and got stings. We were fortunate that the spikes did not break and no surgery was needed. But we strongly recommend to wear plastic shoes when walking in the sea water. Last, but not least, we can clearly recommend the Montien House Hotel in Samui Chaweng as a good hotel with reasonable prices.
Fantastic value for its location,facilities,staff”
We picked this hotel by chance as it wasn't listed on the first 1-3 pages of Agoda's site. We chose it from looking at the map instead. We were deliberating whether to stay in Bo Phut or Chaweng. I'm glad we picked Chaweng as the concentration of eateries and entertainment venues here are higher therefore making it more fun to stroll in the evenings. The location of Montien 1/4 of the way into Chaweng street makes this location unbeatable for convenience. Apart from that, Montien is also situated off the busy Chaweng street at the end of a 50m cul-de-sac which makes this hotel relatively quiet and shielded from all the hullabaloo nearby. Given the price, you get a very spacious room with equally spacious bathroom. We had some clogging problem in the shower room trap but there is good hot running water and given the value proposition, we didn't complain. The pool is smallish about 17m and good enough for a nice dip. The hotel shares the same stretch of Chaweng beach as the rest of the hotels in this area and we could walk anywhere on this long beach to catch the perfect spot and better waves. The breakfast is limited in variety but what they have, it's good enough. As we were leaving for the jetty at 6am, the hotel was nice enough to prepare for us a breakfast box of sandwiches and fruits the evening before. If you are in the mood for some adventure, you could rent a scooter from the hotel itself which you could entrust your passport with. Other street vendors will only rent you their scooters if you surrender your passport or pay about 3000 baht as collateral. We were a bit squeamish about giving our passports to some stranger or paying the hefty deposit. We would never surrender our passports under any normal circumstance but I guess the hotel management was a more trustworthy vendor. Overall, we would definitely consider returning to Montien on our next trip to Samui!
Nice hotel with friendly staff”
Montien House Hotel is well located in Chaweng . It is on the beach but at the same time close to Chaweng nightlife, the mall Central Festival and anything else. Rooms are comfortable and they have all the necessary but a renewal would be welcome. I have appreciated the staff who is always kind and smiling, particularly the guy at the reception. I have to say there is not lift in the structure, for me it hasn’t been a problem but it could be for older people or people with reduced mobility. Overall a very good stay at Montien House Hotel.
Amazing value for money”
My girlfriend and I stayed at Montien House Hotel for 4 nights in November 2010. Although still rainy seanson on Koh Samui the weather was very nice. The rooms, service and position of the hotel are perfect. We stayed in a superior room that was close to the pool and beach, sun loungers were all available for free and the restaurant had great food with amazing service , wasn't the cheapest to eat but definatly worth it for the free live music and view straight onto the beach. Hotel is also close to the airport. Id recommend it to everyone.
Always the best all-rounder!”
This was the 4th time we have stayed at Montien House, and as always, it had everything! The location is fantastic - right outside you have everything at your finger tips and the price is good. The recent floods probably put a few people off coming to Samui. however you would not know anything occurred - certainly at Montien House. All was great and the breakfast a real hit. The beach is clean and the pool is so close to the beach also. It is very centrally located. The only negative would be the toilets sometimes get a bit smelly, and the shower is hard to regulate, but i think that is something common to Samui. The rooms were clean and large - we stayed in a building room. I would most definitely stay at Montien again! the staff are so friendly also. A great Holiday!
Love Montien”
Great hotel, we stayed at Montien 4 times and always had good experience. Good for groups/families, they have a wide range of rooms from budget to pool villa or apartment style with kitchenette. Free baby cot provided, ask in advance to book all your rooms close to each other, they also do pick up/drop off to airport by email booking. Food & drink prices at hotel restaurant are very reasonable unlike most other hotels in Chaweng. Walk to everything incl Tops supermarket, Festival shopping centre, Coffee Club, 711. No waves at the beach, no noisy jets skis around, kids friendly. Lots of young people too staying at the new building.
Perfect Bungalow vacation”
This was the perfect spot for me. You can take the more modern rooms in the main complex, but the Garden Bungalows really are where you want to be, and they are cheaper. Not as up to date, but perfect for a more easy going holiday. The garden is stunning, with a legion of gardeners ensuring its upkeep each day. Just a short walk down the 2 rows of bungalows brings up the pool, beach and restaurant. It couldn't be more perfect. I highly recommend Montien House Hotel and its excellent and friendly staff.
Perfect place with highly professional staff”
Do not look anywhere else to stay at, this is the perfect place for you. We have been used to high quality hotel but nothing compared to Montien House. The biggest assets of this charming hotel is by far the highly professional staff whose concerns is customer satisfaction. We booked a deluxe room but as it was fully booked, they upgraded us to a magnificient pool villa which I have to admnit is just lovely. Clean and large bedroom and bathroom with direct access to a good-size private pool to enjoy a romantic stay with your lover. Could not have imagined a much better place. We highly recommend this place and we will return without any doubt in the near future.
Nice beach cottages”
Hotel was very nice. I had asked for a quiet room and the first room they offered was near the parking area. When I was reluctant, they gave me one away from noise. The grounds are beautiful - they take very good care - even swept leaves off the grass every morning. Nice pool, lounge chairs on the beach and beside the pool. Great restaurant, attentive staff for breakfast buffet. Had dinner at the restaurant after checking other places on the beach - Montien House had the best live music and a great meal on the sand. Nice relaxing stay.
excellent value for money, loved it”
In total we stayed for 5 nights in the Montien house, 2 in the Garden Huts and the rest in the new building rooms. The garden huts are a bit old and far from being a modern room but they are excellent to get in and out from since they are ground floor closer to the beach and the pool. there is a safe in the room, so shouldn't be a problem with stealing. The hotel located on a side street between the beach and Chaweng street, so it's quite and nice. I would recommend you to take the mode modern rooms in the new building, they are top quality and we just loved staying there. INTERNET FYI - if you feel like you must have a stable internet in the room then I would recommend asking a room closer to the router, since in the new building it have a low signal in the more distant rooms.
Overall best choice for Chaweng”
Even it is no luxury hotel, the familary charme of the hotel and the graden is enough to have a nice stay. It would be good, if the whole chaweng beach would be cleaned from dirt and trash, and not just in fron of some hotels (as the Montien house).
An enjoyable stay”
I've stayed at Montien House on three separate trips now, in three types of rooms. The superior cottages are my favorite, they are close to the beach and have the nicest atmosphere. The building rooms are newer/cleaner, but they lack that little something in atmosphere. The restaurant has nice food, and the staff is friendly. The pool is very small, but a fairly nice surrounding.
Fantastic location”
Second time staying at Montien House, the rooms could do with some renovation work but it is located in a fabulous spot with lovely staff, great pool area and a lovely homely feel. The patio area is great for an afternoon drink whilst watching the squirrels play in the trees. Breakfast could do with some variation but hey this is Thailand! Will certainly return again next year!
A Very Enjoyable Stay”
We had a private pool villa, the room was comfortable it, the staff were friendly especially the lady who cleaned our room creating towel art. The breakfast was good plenty of choice the restaurant food menu was good and the food was fantastic. Montien House is in an perfect location for the beach and restaurants you are spoilt for choice. I wouuld highly recommend this hotel next time we go we will probably get a garden cottage The loud music on Saturday nights from other hotels was loud it went until 2am, we really enjoyed our stay
we were very happy with everything.”
we loved staying at montien house as was walking distance to shops resturants, loved the massages we had. would stay there again should we return to koh samui.
Quiet Family hotel. Close enough to Party Central”
Our garden cottage was nicer than the deluxe rooms that were twice the price. We checked out both and went for the garden cottages. The rooms well appointed. The only annoying thing was the recessed ceiling had lights we couldn't even turn off at night. Annoyed! Internet only available at the restaurant and not available 24hours. Annoyed Otherwise beautiful garden path to the beach. Bring bug spray. Nice large shower toilet room. Nice beachside restaurant with a quirky lounge singer and electric keyboard player at night. We enjoyed our stay at Montien House. They also rent scooters.
Wonderful Place”
Really Liked Montien House, location was fantastic and you silent, \\i stayed in a suite which was wonderful. The staff are amazing always friendly the owner is a joy to speak with so happy and kind. I stayed two weeks. The food is fantastic and they go out of there way to make you happy. If I had one piece of feedback I think they should update the loungers by the pool as its beautiful but dated and actually there very uncomfortable, but I would stay here again without doubt.
I didnt want to leave...”
We absolutely loved the private pool villa at Montien House. The location is in the heart of all the action and on the beach, having said that we felt like we were in our own private villa and spent alot of the time in our own pool - feeling very relaxed and romantic. The deal through agoda had this accomodation at very reduced rates - worth looking out for the specials.
very nice services, great location with nice beach”
Montien House Hotel has a nice staffs. You will be impress with their friendly and great service-mind. The location is also great. Room is nice, comfortable, and be kept cleaning all the time. Moreover, there're completely perfect of the room's facility. However, there's not much choices and not so yummy breakfast which was included with our room payment.
