            Snorkelling Paradise, Breathtaking Views.”

Bamboo everything, great food, free snorkelling gear

We wish we could have stayed at Moondance Magicview for longer. The location was a bit far off from the main strip (Sairee) of Koh Tao and the ride was a bumpy adventure on a pick up truck. But the location of the resort made up for those tiny inconveniences. There is a reason Moondance Magicview Bungalow has such an eccentric name; and it lives up to its quirky name by having bungalows that were completely made of bamboo, complete with hammocks and a wooden deck for relaxing. It was a very very relaxing place and the food was reasonably priced and quality. We spent the majority of our time there swimming at the warm ocean full of coral and fish. Most diving boats actually stop at the spot outside this resort since it has one of the best bays of Koh Tao

wonderful getaway in the magical smufland”

beautiful bamboo bungalows with garden bathroom, look over amazing sea view from your own private balcony

My friends and I spent a wonderful short holiday at the Moondance Magicview Bungalow. The hotel is located on a remote location on Koh Tao, it can't be a more perfect place for ppl who want to get away from the urban stress. All hotel rooms are made in bamboo with nature lights penetrating into the room in the morning, fan, aircon and all other modern appliances are totally no use here, this is a place where you can totally relax, meditate and absorbing energy from the mother nature. Each room has a very unique designed garden bathroom where you can truly have an amazing shower experience in nature. The hotel owner is a very nice lady; she cooks delicious food in no time. staffs are friendly and helpful. Although the hotel is not next to the beach, but the hotel has built a nice deck on top of the rocks next to the coastline. Swim and snorkeling are possible by the coastline on a calm day. I will definitely go back there again and try to stay longer next time.

            Unfrogettable experience”

            Read on

This is my last night at the Moondance Magicview hotel. It could hardly be quieter, with only the sound of the waters of the crystal clear bay below. Darkness has fallen and, as I look due east over the Gulf of Thailand, where you can see spectacular sunrises, the only lights are those of the squid fishing boats on the horizon. I booked four days here, with fingers crossed. I have stayed eight. I live in a bamboo hut that barely emerges from cliff-top jungle canopy to the truly beautiful view over the water. The hut has a fan but the ocean breeze has proved sufficient for me. The bed is good and has a mosquito net. A couple of nights, I have slept on the balcony’s bamboo hammock beneath constellations I have never seen before. I have a private, open air bathroom and cold shower. It is all a joy to use (although, like much of the island, drains are not as robust as you might be used to in a western city and you should ask for instructions before you do something everyone regrets). In the afternoon, the water has heated naturally and in fact becomes quite hot. The focus of the hotel is an open-air lobby from which a small Thai family runs everything. You could not ask for friendlier hosts. Next to this a small restaurant is sculpted out of petrified wood and the edge of the cliff. ‘Awesome’ would be an entirely accurate description. This is as close to being in a Roger Dean landscape as you will find. There are fourteen bungalows here, so they might be busy or you might have to wait a while but you are never forgotten and you are treated to warm smiles every time. The Moondance Magicview hotel is like no other. Here you will find a truly authentic Thai experience. If you come looking for something close to a hotel experience you have had before, this is not the place. You have to be prepared to tune into something quite rustic but unique. This place is different and special because of it. It is quiet, secluded and just a once in a lifetime experience.

            Awesome!”

            Views, Foods, Atmosphere, People

my girlfriend and i stayed at moondance this may for 9 nights and it was the best thing we could have done! having been to koh tao before and travelled around the island we wanted somewhere that was relaxed and removed from the crowds. i booked our time on agoda before we left based simply on the stunning views in the photos. i was a bit apprehensive about how to get there regarding some earlier reviews that said taxi drivers would refuse to drive there. as it turns out this was completely untrue!! yes the road is rough, but it is actually exciting and quick!! the trip from the ferry port at ao mae haad was 15 minutes and we had a taxi within 2 minutes! for the whole trip no taxi refused the drive there and more importantly moondance has its own taxi that will drop you off and pick you up (at an arranged time) for 100 baht per person per trip. as for the place itself monndance has the most spectacular views east across the horizon from both the bungalows and the restaurant/reception area. beautiful! food was cooked by the owner (as this is a family run show) and she is a total weapon in the kitchen with every dish being awesome. especially so because they were cheap as well! we ate 80% of our meals there. from the reception area it is a safe 5 minute walk down the cliffs (bamboo paths and ladders) to get to the water's edge. although there is no beach the water is easily accessible and had the best snorkeling (gear is provided free) we had seen on koh tao. dive boats for of scuba divers come to this spot daily, showing the quality of the water. speaking of quality the water here was super clean, much cleaner than sairee beach or anything on the west side. the bungalows are simple but have big outdoor bathrooms. a shower under the stars is always nice! while the bed was firm we had no problem sleeping. sheets and towels were very clean and could be changed at your request. basically i couldn't wipe the smile off my face! simple but f

            Most spectacular views and atmosphere”

great view, great food, exceedingly friendly staff, very peaceful and relaxing

the seaview bungalows were fantastic!!! the view was unbeatable and the breeze over the clifftop made the lack of a/c totally liveable. i loved the outdoor shower and toilet - it was private enough and had a nice back-to-nature kind of a feel to it. all the pictures on the moondance magicview bungalow website were totally true to life. the restaurant was perched on a clifftop and was beautiful with really quaint driftwood tables and chairs. the food was excellent and the service at the hotel was great. the place is pretty remote and could only be reached by a very harrowing "taxi" ride, which was us and our luggage in the back of an open bed 4x4 pickup truck going way too fast along ridiculously bumpy dirt roads. once we got up there we basically never left the hotel grounds, except to hike down the short trail to the water's edge for some nice swimming and snorkeling.

            Remote, peaceful, and friendly”

Visually stunning, amazing staff, felt one with nature

The remote, peaceful atmosphere of Moondance was a welcome change after the bustling commotion of Koh Phi Phi. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves to go camping, as you will find yourself surrounded by wildlife and feeling at one with nature. Unlike most hotels, the grounds and lodging at Moondance are designed to enhance its natural surroundings…everything is built with stunning open-air views and rustic minimalism, but the extravagance of your surroundings will make your stay feel luxurious and comfortable. the English-speaking guest liaison, is a warm, inviting, hard-working fellow whose friendliness and humor only enhanced the charm of this paradise. Be prepared for a bumpy 4x4 trip to the bungalows from the pier, but it’s nothing any adventurer would cringe over and the hotel’s personal taxi service is well-skilled and their taxis are 4x4 trucks. The beach provides some excellent snorkeling, and the access to the beach felt like something out of Swiss Family Robinson…ropes, tunnels, plank bridges…so fun! Anyone complaining that anything about this place is dangerous or difficult obviously didn’t come to Thailand for adventure. The hike to the beach is like any sort of mountain hike…maybe you could slip on some pebbles and scrape your knee, but that’s not going to stop you from hiking a trail to a beautiful locale. This place was made for those with an adventurous spirit looking to enjoy nature with the people around you. Added bonus: the owner has two awesome and lovable dogs that join the guests now and then in the common area…I particularly fell in love with one (a sort of black lab mix) who melted my heart when he ran all the way down the road after us when we had to check out and leave the island.

            back to nature”

            snorkeling, service, self-contained

The most amazing thing about this resort is the way it is perched in and around a boulder strewn hilltop overlooking the sea. All the bungalows seem to have a great view (although ours was especially amazing and included a view of rocks which look just like a man and woman standing behind their child). The bungalows have a wonderfully natural feel, are solidly built from bamboo (including bamboo locks) and include an open air bathroom. This pebble-filled bathroom was a bit rough on bare feet at times but there is something amazing about having a shower under the stars. The snorkeling here is truly amazing - it is possibly one of the best sites on Koh Tao. There are usually boat loads of scuba divers coming by but I'm not sure if they get much more benefit from being able to go lower since there seems to be lots to see near the surface. One caveat - getting into and out of the water is tricky and we cut our hands several times on the sharp, shell-covered rocks. The staff are great and soon made us feel like one of the family. The restaurant food is just fine and we never felt the need to go elsewhere. If we go again to Koh Tao - this is where we'll be going back to stay.

            Lovely bamboo bungalow, amazing view

our stay in moondance has been a great experience! the road to moondance was a bbit scary but once you got here, you dont need to worry about getting on the bumpy road everyday coz the bungalow has everything you need! our bungalow located right on the cliff and enjoys the best sea view. the balcony of our bungalow and the bar on the cliff had been our best chill-out place during our stay. food and drink are good there, and there are free goggle and fins for rent. the bay near moondance is one of the best spot for snorkeling on the island and there are quite a few snorkeling tour boat stop by everyday. overall we had a great experience in moon dance!

most awesome bungalows in koh tao”

winderful bungalows, stunning bar and restaurant, views, paceful, snorkel

in the begining we booked only for 1 night to arrive to koh tao and later check another places in chalok. but after arrive and see how wonderful was that, we stay for 5 days more. and the stay was totally amazing and relaxed. is very difficult to arrive there (only with 4x4) or if you are a super-super good driver. and the beach is not close by. you can not go walking, so you should arrange a vehicle. if you arrive to the island by ferry, send them an email telling the time and you will have someone to pick up you (in another way could be difficult arrive there). this spot is more for people who likes be in the middel of the nature, ocean and adventure. not recommended for people who only wants to stay layed at the beach and get tanned. the bungalows with hamok are made totally in bamboo making the stay very special. the bathroom is simply fantastic, outside integrated with the nature. is an experience have a shower there. the breakfast is include and is very cute. wifi available. cool dogs and a puppet around to play with. only one bar/restaurant of stone and wood just in top of the rocks. you see koh phanghan and koh samui from there. the best coconut lassi in the island made with love. the food is made by the family and is like be in home. at night for dinner is amazing be there. if you go down of the rocks (great way made with wood too) you arrive to one of the best spots to do snorkel and diving. in the bar you can borrow the equipment for snorkelling. and the best of these bungalows is the thai guy who is managing the place: tom. so kind, helpful, friendly and simply amazing guy. we will come again to visit him, for sure

You'll feel one with nature. Amazing bungalows!!!”

The nature,, amazing views, great staff

This hotel was freaking amazing. This was the first and best hotel we stayed at in Koh Tao (we stayed at three in total). The bungalows are so amazing. They gave us the best one with the best views. All the bungalows are high in the mountains with amazing views. You can see the ocean and hear the ocean while you sleep. And everything is made in bamboo. The outside bathrooms were the best part. The shower and the toilet are outside(with walls of course) so youll feel very 'one with nature' when showering or doing your business. Also! The food is awesome! We just kept ordering and ordering because it was so great (especially noname chicken and banana pancake). The only bad thing is the location. But if you rent scooters or quads at the city center this wont be a problem. Also, the hotel has transportation services. They have cute dogs too.

            Lovely but far from everything”

Architecture of the bungalows, stunning view on the ocean, adventurous gardens

Despite of the road that comes to the hostel, which is pretty dangerous, and almost unfindable on a map, the hostel is lovely! Very isolated, it is a quiet place if there is no wind or rain. Unfortunately there was some during our trip, so our sleep was disturbed, because the bamboo-braided walls are thin. The architecture of the bungalow is unique and amazing, and so is the view. this is lovely for couples. The staff was lovely and very helpful. Tony helped us booking our way back to Bangkok, made us custom-made cocktails and advised us on what to do on the island. One night at Moondance magicview is sufficient if comfort is a big deal for you, but if you stay longer, I recommend to rent a bike (you need some driving skills, though) Otherwise you have to take the cab, with a driver who leaves the hostel at 8am, then 11am and 2pm; so you're not free, and it costs you extra money.

Charming, just the get away we were looking for.”

Really enjoyed being off away at this remote vacation. The kind of tourists that stay here were the type of people looking for a different experience and we fouled them quiote interesting. The best snorkeling on the island is available just down the cliffs below the hotel

We loved out bungalow that was quaint and more tucked away and private than others. The outdoor bathroom beautiful. Cold water was not a problem. Actually felt great. We enjoyed a run up and out of the hotel daily to an area beach. There is Tanote Bay at about 40 minutes and 30 minutes to a smaller beach just south. Many people take advantage of the hotel' s "taxi" service out to town several times a day for tours etc. We were happy just to explore the area on foot over our 3 day stay. The food was pretty standard. We had one fantastic meal the last night there when when asked for recommendations for a true, Thai meal. It was spicy and excellent.

Absolutely fantastic, stunning and well kept”

View from room, unique accommodation, superior service, great snorkeling

In traveling to six Thailand islands in a month, this was by far my absolute favorite stay and experience. Moondance is truly magical. We arrived (down a horrible road yes, but exciting and worth the trip) to be escorted to a bungalow made entirely of bamboo in every aspect, that was overlooking a private cove of the sea. The room was beautiful, bathroom completely natural and outside. You could even see the sea when showering!! The staff was better than any we have had anywhere else and knew our names within seconds. The restaurant was overlooking the sea and we enjoyed a fantastic meal watching the lights of the squid boats with great service under the stars. Included breakfast was average. Snorkeling was the best we saw on the island. Probably would not recommend this to those that are out of shape or super young children as the trek down the rocks from the hotel perched above to the snorkeling spot is quite a hike on boulders and steep steps. Well worth the effort as I jumped into the sea to open my eyes to thousands of fish. Amazing! My only problem with this slice of heaven was that the beds were absolutely hard as a rock. I mean horrible.

            Absolutely the Best Getaway!”

            Isolated, romantic, with friendly staff

what can i say? we chose this place for a week of our vacation. it was perfect for what we wanted, a quiet out-of-the-way place to relax. we were not disappointed! think rustic! primitive. the bungalows are all bamboo, so one is essentially out in the open. the spacious porches with hammocks are ideal for the view and relaxation. do sleep under the mosquito netting! the beds are firm, but comfortable. while it is true that the outdoor bathrooms are surrounded by walls, there are some privacy issues with some of them that are close together. we had nearly a full view into two other shower areas. just be careful. and, there is no hot water, but neither is it cold--about right for the climate. there is a lot of walking up and down the hill to get to the restaurant, and a flashlight (torch) is good to have as some of the lighting is not the best. the restaurant is just a shack with a kitchen area, and it is also the office. there are only two tables under the roof, but other tables are outside along the edge of the cliff with those fantastic views. the food is excellent and inexpensive, although not everything on the menu is always available. and, the cooks were not always there during the day, so we missed a couple of lunches. the staff was great. tony was so helpful, and the only one who spoke much english. the "taxi" driver was great, but didn't speak much english. we loved them all. (the road is bad, but this is koh tao!) this is not the place for everyone. you must love, rustic, primitive accommodations, isolation, and be flexible. here are some things to be aware of: --there is no safe access into the water from the rocks a hundred feet below! the taxi will take you to other beaches. --three are three friendly pit bulls that are underfoot, but they can intimidate small children --ask for an estimate of your bill a day before you check out so you can get cash at an atm. --relax and enjoy the sound of the waves on the rock

Location is hard to find and very difficult to reach but so beautiful once we are there. The view is wonderful. The bungalow was very nice and comfortable. One negative point: the staff was not friendly.. a little bit disappointing. But the time spent at Moondance Magicview Bungalow was great, staff just has to learn how to be nice with clients and it will be the dream.

            Quiet and Relaxing”

Tony is helpful, quiet, hammock on porch

I loved my stay at Moondance Majicview Bungalow! Went for 2 nights and stayed longer. The location is away from town and you need to arrange with the hotel for pick-up. They will pick you up at the dock for free if you let them know what time your boat arrives. A taxi to/from the resort costs 300-400 baht. Tony is fabulous and will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. He arranged a day snorkeling g trip for me that was exactly what I wanted. He had suggestions on traveling to other areas of Thailand and made food recommendations. I loved talking with him. He is an asset for the hotel. You can walk down to the water. Do it! It is fun and not too hard. It was well worth it to snorkel. I saw huge fish and a small reef shark. The hammocks on the front of each bungalow were a great place to read a book or fall asleep under the stars. The only negative was the manager. She was not friendly and be careful if she gives you a ride to town. She dropped me off and I had my bag in the back of the pickup. I jumped on the back to get it and she took off. I hit the bed of the truck to get her to stop and she kept going. A guy on the side of the road got her to stop. She looked at me and stopped but no apology or check to make sure I was ok. Bad service from the boss. She needs to work on her hospitality towards guests!

Great view, great food, amazing staff

this place is a great escape from the hustle and bussle of the rest of thailand and even the rest of koh tao. however, this place has put their best feature right in their name. the view!!! it is amazing! not to forget, the food is pretty good too, nice mixture of thai, indian and western foods and decently priced. the staff were all amazing and very helpful with booking both a ferry ride off the island and an onward train back in chumphon without any "price inflations" for the service. only drawback is there is no beach. and it is a bit of a strenuous activity to get down the rock cliff to the water (not to be attempted by the less agile!!). but the reef at the bottom is worth it!

The place is on the hill facing the ocean, clean, spacious and private. The room has big terrace and hammock, wide view and sea breeze, spacious bathroom with shower, there is a Wifi Router in the room, so Signal and speed always strong, i was having a conference all on the terrace with no problem, only background noise from wind and birds. we love the privacy of this bungalow, away from other room and it located at the end of the road, we can park our motorbike just in front of the entry, the only negative is the mosquito in evening but they gone later at night and the lights were a bit too dim at night Staff is friendly, family kind of business, there is one dog, if you feed him he will follow and stay in your bungalow and a talking bird that will say Good Morning to you when you pass him Food is ok, price is high due to its on the remote side of island, the breakfast and reception area has a breathe taking view, good for sipping cocktail before sunset Overall we have the best experience and the price is worth the value and will be our first choice of stay on our return to this island If you are a pet lover, bring some pet snack and you will a best company and guard during your stay

We had a pretty hectic diving schedule and stayed at Moondance to make sure we saw some of the other side of the island too. Koh Tao is pretty small — so even being on the opposite side of the island, it only takes 10 mins on a scooter to reach everything. Beautiful, rustic place. Wish we had spent some more time here during the day.

            Very good”

This place was where we felt most welcomed by Thais. The place is far from the small center of the small island of Koh Tao, but in motorbike it is only 10 minutes away. By taxi, the trip can be quite expensive because of the lots of ups and dowmns on the way, but the tranquility and the location on the seafront, in the top of the escarpment, makes it worth it. The staff is absolutely wonderful, it is a true local and family business, and they treat their guests with a lot of affection. The bungalow was exceptionally beautiful, smelled good, had a small fan and a hammock to protect the bed from unwanted night visitors (and there were not a few!) At the door, a hammock with sea-horizon view makes the sunset wonderful. Unfortunately, we had the misfortune of catching a major storm on the island those days, so at night the wind and sea breeze were very audible and intense. The bathroom was open air, but with flush toilet and shower (cold, of course) The best was, without a doubt, the food! One of the best places I've eaten in all Thailand! Homemade, in the time ypu ask, they made any traditional dish or even something more ordinary (like spaghetti with tomato sauce). Breakfeast is included, it had 3 menus to choose from, all delicious and very well served, worthy of an hotel even! To repeat, for food, for sight, for affection, for everything!
