Although the hotel is a forty minute ride from Hakone station the hotel is worth the trip. The traditional Ryokan is lovely slept on futons and the food was amazing ate at your own set out table for dinner and breakfast. Staff are an absolute delight polite and helpful. The hotel is on a bus route so accessible for lots of the local things to see. Sculpture park was brilliant for adults and children. Would definitely stay here again.
Great ryokan experience”
The ryokan is great and offers a traditional Japanese experience. You get tea and sweets when you enter the room, and there are yukatas (Japanese-style robes) for you to wear during your stay. The dinner is composed of many small dishes, with a main dish cooked on the middle of the table. Breakfast was also traditional so expect a different experience from your average western breakfast. The onsen facilities were also great, although it didn't smell like sulphur so I guess it wasn't a real hot spring. The ryokan is conveniently located near bus stops to both Hakone-Yumoto station and Gotemba station for a trip to Fuji's five lakes.
A traditional way to spend the night”
We made a good choice with the location of this hotel. The local bus stops outside the hotel in the Hakone area. The simple Ryokan room was really nice - we spent just one night here. Sleeping on the cosy looking beds on the floor was an experience but we paid for it the next day with stiff joints and bad backs. The hotel had a really nice Onsen instead of shower facilities in the room. We didn’t eat here - but be warned we went out looking for dinner at 8.15 and what few restaurants there were nearby had already stopped serving - the hotel restaurant closed early too. The area was dead by 9pm. Thankfully we found a basic place nearby for the locals where they were kind enough to serve us a bowl of ramen. This is definitely a place to enjoy the Japanese countryside in between your bigger cities tour of the country. Be sure to pick up a free map of the area from the tourist information office across the road from the Hakone Yamuto train station. It was invaluable.
Very traditional experience”
My friend and I were greeted by a very friendly staff. Since my friend has quite a few tattoos we thought she would have to forego the onsen experience. After speaking to the staff however they told us there is the option for reserving a private onsen with two tubs for an additional ¥2000. What a fantastic surprise! A lovely lady brought us to our room and explained the facilities and how to tie our Yukata and obi (robes). The dinner was huge and typical japanese with multiple smaller dishes to try from. After dinner we came back to our room to find that someone already layed out our futons for us. Just a 15min bus ride away there is a place where you can view Mount Fuji. It was a fantastic experience!
Very nice meals and private bath, nice hotel!”
We enjoyed the meals and private bath so much, it is genuine Japanese experience. staff were very helpful, and they went beyond their way to help us solved transportation problem. will be back for sure!
Awesome ryokan, even better experience”
Extremely exceptional ryokan. Super glad I chose this one. As the service and care from the staff was phenomenal. Location is a bit far from Hakone-Yumoto station (still right next to one of the bus stops on the Hakone loop just an hour away). The food they served was so amazing and was such a great immersion into classic Japanese cuisine. The onsen was amazing as well - extremely warm but soothing experience that is available for a very long period of time.
While offering a traditional Japanese experience, this excellent Ryokan stops short at eating cross legged on the floor (which can difficult for the older and less agile traveller). The capacity to hire private baths ( with an excellent outlook) allowed us to experience Japanese style bathing without having to go to a public facility. Finally the existence of a private toilet attached to each room was a bonus
They have awesome outdoor private onsen. Their dinner is good too, a traditional Japanese dinner, else can buy food from a nearby Lawson (5 mins walk) Definitely will choose this Ryokan, if we travel to Hakone in future.
Friendly staffs and japanese dining was wonderful.”
It was my very first stay at Ryokan. Was therefore super curious what makes it one the best and renowned accomodations in Japan. It costs way more than staying at other ordinary hotels. However, i think it’s 100% worthed for its price. The staffs were super friendly and the meals(Kaiseki) were way beyong my expectation. Ryokan is not recommendable for those, who are price-sensitive and looking for cheaper places to stay. If you wish to experience the ultimate pleasure of japanese sauna and dining, this place is a must-go.
Lovely, relaxing stay”
The private onsen are lovely, and really good value for money, we thought, and tried two of the three. The room was spacious and comfortable, with everything you needed. The views aren't amazing, though, as there are a number of other hotels close by. Breakfast and dinner were nice, but not the best food we had in Japan. They bring you loads, though, so you won't go hungry, that's for sure! All the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. All in all, a great experience.
Lovely Affordable Ryokan/Onsen experience”
It's a long way from Odawara Station to Mount View but one bus will take you the whole way! Get off at Sengokuhara Cultural Center and it's literally right there in front of you. Check-in was easy with English speaking clerk and staff who took our bags up to our room and showed us around the more traditional and spacious room (tatami mats, bedding that was set up while we were at dinner). We paid extra for dinner which was a huge kaiseki (multi-course) style and there was no problem accommodating my partner's seafood allergy with plenty to eat AND dessert. Additionally, the onsen are rent by the hour and a really neat experience to do in the cold of a February night. The outside bamboo are lit up beautifully and a lovely scene as you relax into softer skin. There are vending machines and a gift shop downstairs as well. Staff were so friendly and helpful especially when our American hips didn't fit easily in provided yukata we were brought a bigger size (sorry!!).
The hotel was easy to find, with it being a few steps away from a bus stop. I stayed at a solo room, which was fairly spacious for just one person. I found the provision of a Yukata (traditional Japanese wear for use while in the hotel premises) a nice touch. The dinner and breakfast was amazing, and I was able to take them at a partitioned area in the hotel restaurant which the staff had reserved for me. What really sold things for me were their onsen facilities, which featured gender-separate indoor and outdoor pools. It was quite an experience to get to soak in a steaming pool while being exposed to the chilling outdoor cold.
We decided on this hotel as they offer a private onsen as we both have tattoos. We booked the deluxe room which I believe the best rooms. Once booked in & scheduled times for our private onsen. These were complementary due to our room (1 each night of our stay) We were shown to our massive room. WOW really nice tradition room, separate bedroom, lounging area with a view. Huge bathroom with massive stone bath, separate shower & basin. Separate toilet & basin. All the amenities you need. Tea set, electric jug & fridge with small payable mini bar. We didn't eat at hotel. There are a few restaurants around & a Lawsons down the road. We had a great stay which was very relaxing. Just a few cons, for the price we paid think bottle water should have been complementary & hand towels instead of tissues hand basins
Comfortable and good location”
The hotel services is good, front desk could speak English and Mandarin. Busses stop by in front of hotel which is convenient. Hotel serve authentic Japanese cuisine which is totally a good experience. Must try the private onsen with bamboo view, worth the money for small family. Overall had a pleasant stay in this hotel. Definitely will come back again if I coming to Hakone again.
Staff spoke multiple languages and are fluent in it. Breakfast and dinner is specially prepared for you if you included them. The public bath is great. Only issue is that the location is a little far from the tourist spots and some of the buses stop operating after 5.30pm, so its wise to properly plan your journey. I recommend getting the hakone free pass as it covers majority of the bus and train routes + the ship ride & and the cable car.
Remember to book your private onsen early!”
I really enjoyed my stay at Mount View Hakone. The staff were friendly and helpful, they also speak multiple languages (English, Chinese, etc.). They only have 3 private onsen per day and they get sold out really fast (we had to book ours at 11.15pm). Location wise, quite high up in the mountain - about an hour by bus from Odawara/Hakone Yumoto, but affordable if you get the Hakone free pass and cater sufficient time to travel.
The meals are great with so much to appreciate the japanese fine dinning experience. The only thing to note is the meals are done in a big hall with all the hotel guests dinning together. But the taste of breakfast & dinner is top notch. My family enjoyed it very much.
Water leaking and staff misleading”
An incredibly disappointing experience”
I don't know what the other travelers are raving about. This place is terrible. The amenities in the room were dated (23" TV?) and the food was completely disappointing, it honestly tasted like food we could've gotten at the convenience stores. The facilities are saved by the pretty decent Onsen (which require an additional charge if you wish for a private onsen) and the cleanliness was pretty good. I wouldn't return here even if they paid for my air fare and gave me a free stay.
Excellent value for money”
Overall a good experience. I like how the baths are open all night so if you're jetlagged like I was, you could take a bath at any time (basically by yourself) and then go right back to bed. Opt in for the dinner/breakfast and you'll be in for two good meals. Some things didn't sit well with my palette but that doesn't mean you won't like them. Bus stop that can take you to Hakone Yumoto or Odawara right ouside of the front door. Getting here is a bit longer than other places around Hakone, be mindful of the bus schedules as buses stop running far sooner than you would expect!
