Excellent hotel in a good location”
We stayed at the Movenpick hotel in Karon for 10 nights and were really sad to leave. It is a really well maintained hotel on a large plot with lots of green areas. The main pool is a great area to relax and has a really nice pool bar. The grounds are filled with palm trees (and other tropical trees) and there are lots of tropical sounding bounds around. In the grounds there is a lagoon area which some of the accommodation is alongside and there is also plenty of shaded areas if you need them (we needed this as the temperatures were very high). Towards the beach end of the hotel there is a small but nice infinity pool which overlooks the nice fine sandy beach. Our room had a balcony which looked out over the sea and we could watch the sun set each night from our room (which was one of the cheaper rooms but still really good qaulity and failry sizeable.) Food in the hotel is good quality (though more pricey than in Karon) and the ice creams are top notch. The hotel is positioned well for trips to Karon (5 minutes walk), Patong/Kata (short taxi ride), Wat chalong temple / Big Buddha / Phuket town and there are various trips you can book in the local area which will pick up direct from the hotel (Phi Phi island speedboat trip is highly recommended though I expect lots of others will be good too.) There are lots of places in Karon to eat plenty of descent food (cheap of more expensive - for any budget really) and plenty of local market areas to get things you need. I would go back to this hotel if I were to return to Phuket and was very impressed with it generally. I've done a fair bit of travelling and this was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. i don't have anything negative to say about the hotel - it's maybe pricey but if it's in your budget then it's definitely worth considering!
Excellent stay, Highly recommended”
The resort is a very good one, rooms are very comfortable and spacious and we did not have to pay too much for it. Staff very polite and helpful, and there are all facilities that you can use- pool gym spa etc. Good thing is the location- Karon beach is relatively quiet and more families or at least not noisy. The resort is very near to the beach although it was not a good time for getting into the water (monsoon). Many good restaurants and stores around. You can go to other places around Phuket on a tuk tuk, not expensive (say about 200-300 baht to Patong for 2 people).
beautiful grounds, great location, ”
we have visited phuket 5 times, and we usually stay in patong. this time, we thought we would have a few days elsewhere so decided on karon beach. moevenpick was amazing. huge, beautiful gardens, great staff, nice pools, and pretty good restaurants from what i could tell (we only had room service and breakfast). we had booked a plunge pool villa, which was very disappointing compared to the images on the website. it is a lot smaller than it looks and what we have stayed at in the past for a similar price. as we had our 8 month old baby with us, we decided to upgrade, so we had a bit more space. we looked at the penthouse pool villa which wasn't much more expensive (but a lot better if you're looking at the two). the only problem was that it had a lot of stairs. we ended up in "the residence", which was much more expensive but so worth it. right on the beach, private pool for the residences buildings only (which isn't much), beautiful, modern, spacious self contained apartments. the only problem we had was that because you are so close to the beach road / the beach, is that between about midnight and 4am, the locals are out selling all the drunk tourists packs of fire crackers. so you can imagine the noise. it was a very restless few nights for the baby, obviously not knowing what the loud bangs were. apart from the fireworks, the place is fantastic.
Hotel with grand see view and smilely faces”
My trip to Phuket was a company incentive trip. I didn't want to share a room with my colleague, so I booked a room with ocean view in the same hotle and pay by myself. My living experience in this hotle, Moevenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach, made me feel quite worthwhile to pay. All facilities were well designed in details. All the hotle staffs are polite and high efficient. My room was in the 5th floor of the main building, with grand sea view and green mountain view. There are 3 swimming pools. I like the coconut pool most. Quite, straight shape, in the middle of village suites.
Such a beautiful and enjoyable resort with the lot”
Stayed at the end of September 2012. We were lucky and the weather was wonderful. The staff were all really nice and friendly to us. The resort was really beautiful and we enjoyed our plunge pool villa room which was spacious and comfortable. The gardens, the pools and the food at the resort were all fantastic. Karon beach is a great location and we would highly recommend this resort to anyone travelling to Phuket. The resort is very family friendly and we look forward to visiting again with our young daughter in the future.
Worn out, but still pretty good”
We arrived at this hotel just to discover what Karon is. Before that we stayed at Patong at Millnium resort. what we discovered was that there was no need to leave Patong. For those who prefer some hanging out - Patong is the only choice. For those who look for some isolated rest at the beautiful seaside - there are much prettier places around Phuket as Karon. Thus, choice of Karon beach is not reallyy obvious. Ok, as far as the Moevenpick is concerned the hotel is not bad. Huge green territory with 3 pools, playrooms for children, gym and so on. Vast aasortment of food for the breakfast. Relatively, close to the beach. However you will have to walk through the whole territory and cross the street to reach that beach. The latter is ok for Phuket, but not fantastic. Our deluxe room with seaside view costed 350$. This price for this room is actually ridiculous. Even taking in concern the top-season time. The furniture, as well as the very room and the building of the hotel are quite worn out. Ok, this shabbiness is almost a norm in Asia to compare to Europe. But 350$ brings some requirements, right? "Seaside view" was hugely dominated by the view of the giant roof of a lower level. But to be honest, I wasn't surprised. The cube-like architecture of the hotel is absolutely out-of-date. Actually, this is not a negative review. The hotel is not bad. Maybe if booked beforehand and for a long term it can be cheap. But in our case - the price/ratio was quite poor. For 350$ we could find something much better, what we exactly did little bit later on Phi Phi island at Phi Phi island village. Still, I can recommend the hotel to the couples with kids. For them it's a very good choice. And maybe sometime I'll return here. Maybe...
Everything required as advertised.”
we booked to stay in a beach front villa. on arrival we found that the villa we were allocated did not have a beach view but was set back and looked at a very nice garden-but not the beach for which we had paid/expected. we raised this-firmly- with management, and were moved to a real 'front' villa the next day. not ideal to have to move on day 2 with two young kids-or to find that beach front just means 'near the front'. we had booked for 16 nights after all. the rest of our stay was great, the second villa was exactly as advertised. the resort facilities overall are very good and the location is ideal to both appreciate karon beach and access other areas of phuket. we will stay here again.
Great Hotel, very friendly staff and service”
We stayed for 14 nights and had a fabulous relaxing stay. One of the bonuses for us was that as we were repeat customers to the Hotel we received a 20% discount off the Hotel bill at checkout which was a lovely surprise to us. We have stayed at other Hotels in Karon where our repeat visits haven't been acknowledged. The gardens leading from the Hotel to the Beach are absoutely fabulous and great to stroll around. Breakfast buffet is enormous with many many choices to choose from. We would highly recommend Movenpick Karon Resort & Spa.
Lovely hotel and service with a smile"”
I like staying in Moevenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket because it is lovely, great location and have a romantic atmosphere. I would recommend to my family and friend. Can'y wait to visit Phuket again.
The best ever hotel stayed ”
Very best stay in this five star beach resort. It's our honey moon and stated in our booking too. Surprisingly they really upgraded our room from sea view to pool villa. Even deco the bed for honey moon couple. Check in was fast. The villa is good size and new decoration. Relaxed in the roof top pool is so amazing. All the staff are very friendly and helpful, feel very calming in the resort, and very quiet. The pool was nice too with jacuzzi and bar in the centre, very clean and blue. The beach is only 5mins walk from the hotel. Karon Beach is super nice and blue. Not crowded. We had a very nice view of the sunset. It's just beautiful! All the rest and bar and shops are nearby. Massage everywhere. Very convenient! Will definitely come again next time.
lovely hotel and service with a big smile”
this is my first trip to phuket i didnt know what to expect surprisingly looking back i dont know what i was worried about the freindly staff made me feel at home and nothing was a problem i will go to phuket again and i will stay at the movenpick resort and spa again it was recommended to me by my nephew and niece i have a lot of nice memories and remember all the friendly staff at the resort
Good Resort in a good location”
Movenpick is located right just a few minutes walk from Karon Beach. The individual rooms have views of the ocean but most of the villas do not. The facility is clean and the staff very helpful. The breakfast buffet is large and good quality. The restaurants have fair food at high prices, much better to walk to any of the many nearby restaurants. Both times we have stayed here, they have tried to "upgrade" us to better rooms that were actually "downgrades" - we had to debate with the front desk to get the rooms we paid for. Once we were in them, everything else was fine.
Dear Doug, Thank you for your time reviewing our property on Agoda.com. We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and liked the location and breakfast options. We are looking forward to welcoming you again in a near future. Best regards, Stefano C.
Fantastic hotel for families”
We were upgraded to a Deluxe Garden Villa, which was wonderful. Much larger than the standard rooms and stand alone, which was perfect for us as we were travelling with out 17 month old son. Fantastic breakfast! Staff were extremly friendly and are great with the kids. Free internet at various places around the resort which is a great bonus. The market is located just outside the reosrt, which is perfect for all your shopping. We found the sellers less agressive here compared to Paton, and the prices were much cheaper. Karon beach is lovely, but you are unable to swim in the sea May - October due to the currents. This hotel and it's location is perfect for families. We had a wondeful stay and highly recommend the hotel
Large hotel situated near main town in Karon”
The Moevenpick Resort and Spa Karon Beach is a large hotel and conveniently located near the shops and restaurants in Karon. The rooms are clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. We booked an ocean view room however we were at the far left wing and could only catch a glimpse of the ocean! Large breakfast selection and friendly staff at check in.
Great convenient location at Karon beach. We got residence room type facing beach, the view is superb and can see sunset and beach volleyball. The room is also spacious, clean with beautiful contemporary deco, and access to infinity pool. The landscape in the resort is refreshing and nice too. Breakfast is above standard. Most importantly, the staffs are friendly and helpful. We lost swim suited behind and send email with slight hope that they can be found and post to us. Within 2 days I got reply they really have found them and also checked courier fee, which is somewhat reasonable. Thank you Movenpick resort. We had a comfortable stay and absolutely fantastic memory!
Best resort in area”
Definately the best resort in area, we are glad we chose to stay in Karon Beach. It's less crazy than Patong. The streets in Phuket in general are a bit dirty so walking through the gate of the resort into the beautiful gardens is great transition. You are greeted by the friendly staff with a cool towel and Thai cold tea. Our room was large with our own private plunge pool. The bed was a bit firm but still comfortable. Overall we were very happy with our room. There are 3 big pools within the complex to relax in, the coconut pool is a good option for those wanting something quieter because there are less children there than in the main pool. I'd suggest staying in a villa as the surrounding gardens are beautiful and quiet. I can't really say what the hotel rooms are like. I've seen alot of comments about people complaining about the beach being 'all the way across the road'. Honestly, it's a 5 minute walk at a normal pace through the shady gardens from reception. If you're feeling partcularly lazy the resort will drive you across there in a golf buggy. The hotel's breakfast is great with a large amount of choice and a chef who will prepare omelettes/eggs and also pancakes/crepes to order. Just like at any hotel though the bacon is very average. As the resort is right in town just walk out the front gate and turn left. There is a convenience store right there and continue down that road to the main street of restaurants and massage places. Just dodge the suit salesmen on the way.
Garden of Eden”
We enjoyed our stay at the Movenpick Resort & Spa. The garden is very beautiful and big, with large variety of tropical plants. Pools are big and well kept. The premises were quiet and peaceful at night and we had very good sleep. Ocean and beach are very near and it was easy to go there. The waves were sometimes quite rough but we enjoyed swimming in the Sea. On the beach, be careful of sandflies (avoid laying on sand).
Beautiful grounds, good location”
we stayed at the moevenpick in mid-may and enjoyed our stay very much. the grounds are beautiful and the main pool is very nice with shaded areas to sit in the water as well as a swim up bar. the staff is very friendly and helpful, the penthouse plunge pool villa room is spacious and comfortable. the plunge pool is above the room and accessed by an outdoor stairway directly from the room. the plunge pool is exactly what it says, a plunge pool, not a swimming pool. it is big enough for two people to sit or stand to cool off and is covered by a thatched roof to provide shade and protection from rain. we did have an issue with ants in the room attracted by open soda cans but that seems to be a common issue in phuket. we called reception and they sent someone right away to spray which helped but did not eliminate the ants. the ant problem can be minimized by ensuring that no sweet things are left open in the room. the beach is right across the street and can be reached from most rooms with a 5-10 minute walk through the beautiful grounds. the resort has a security person at the street to help with traffic control to get you across the street safely. we enjoyed our stay here and would return to this resort if we ever return to phuket.
Comfortable but not 5 star”
Pros: location close to local food, massage, souvenir, bars, convenience stores; loved the back door easy access to Karon beach; spacious penthouse villa with plunge pool; wifi is strong but need to sign in every time; breakfast buffet was great; 10 minutes taxi to patong beach (download grabtaxi app for English speaking drivers at close to 50% discount); nice pools; well kept grounds; activities such as phi phi island or Krabi cruises can be booked via Klook app for savings Cons: fun card usage and resort facilities should have been explained during check-in; staff customer service can be improved; resort public bathrooms need some update to match overall decor; bathtub is of no use as the hot water runs out mid-tub; shower: weak water pressure and takes around 5 minutes for water to heat up; Eco-friendly resort which means they provide the bare essentials - shampoo, conditioner and body wash (bring your own toothbrush, slippers, body cream, etc); penthouse villa plunge pool water was so cold because of the hut blocking out the sun - recommend guests get the pool with no hut or a room with main pool/coconut pool access, plunge pool is also on the second floor - not on the same level as room); front entrance security is top notch but the beach entrance by mint bar is easily accessible by non residents as there are no security doors nor any security guard meaning anyone can walk in and out - defeating the purpose such high security at the front entrance; fun card exchange for towels is more of a 3 star resort treatment (understandable though because many will take the towels out of hotel and not return them) Room for improvement: can do a little more personal touches to give a 5 star luxury feel such as partnering up with local NGO's to provide handmade mini trinkets to guests; body creams can be provided in a refillable pump bottle; can give movenpick ice cream to guests - one free ice cream per stay - as it's supplied worldwide, will remind guests of holiday
Movenpick is in the most convenient part of Karon Beach. It is a large property with good pools, restaurants and children's facilities. It has a local market situated next to the property which is fun to browse through. The Karon Beach area is by far the most family friendly area of Phuket and does not have the tired feel of Patong. The beach is clean and well serviced. Restaurants are plentiful and reasonably priced and available just outside the hotel property.
