Location was good and staff were super friendly and helpful. The room felt pretty dirty—stains on the walls, stains on the bedsheets.
Good for one night ”
I got there 5am but they let me stay in the lobby until check in!it was nice!
Amazing staff and accomodation”
Kind, helpful and friendly staff. Meals here were delicious as was daily breakfast. Room was clean and had everything you need. They can book motorised tuk tuk to get around and make sure you see the fantastic waterfalls, pagodas and countryside, this area is beautiful. Would definitely stay again.
Central location ”
The room was not as described. It was corrected promptly.
Pro's: Great service throughout. From the free pick up at the train station, excellent english speaking staff, relaxed atmosphere-despite how busy they were. Never felt like any request was unreasonable. Arranged onward tickets, laundry, and baggage storage whilst on a trek. Excellent. Didn't want to leave. Con's: Wifi was flaky and resturant wasn't at the same standard as the rest of the team. Would stay again for sure.
It was great. ”
Nice staff, good food and good bed.
seems to be one of the well established ones here”
Convenient location, great room at the hotel, great breakfast, staff spoke very well English, and we can book bus tickets and rent bicycles directly at hotel! our room was quite noisy tho with the water pipes and some other sounds from utilities, and some stains on the bed sheets.
Beautiful hotel and helpful staff”
Mr. Charles is a super cute looking hotel and very nice on the inside as well. The staff is helpful and friendly. There is a little restaurant that belongs to the hotel where they serve breakfast and were you can also eat dinner or lunch. The food is very nice and tasty. There are good tour guides at this hotel as well. We didn’t do any tours, but my close friends recommended the tour guides from this hotel to me personally.
Easy option for stay - staff are great and can help with everything you need including booking all treks, onward travel etc. Established in area with lots of other travellers choosing to stay here. Decent rooms, WiFi not the best but typical in Myanmar. Buffet breakfast. Would stay again if in area.
They went out of their way to help us and accommodate us and even upgraded our room for free! Very friendly people and great stay! If you're wondering where to eat and drink, go to Mr. Shake Yuan Yuan restaurant which is only about a five minute walk from the hotel, very nice food and shakes for a very low price!
Mr Charlies convinient for everything but the hotel is a bit overpriced. The dorm room 10m2 but 6 bunk beds. The mattress is not good, hard to have a good sleep because of back hurt. Guesthouse Dorm 3 bunk beds is better choice.
Very nice staff, nice room with coffee maker n kettle provided ,nice breakfast
Nice hotel concept”
Mostly everyrhing is about our stay in Mr Charles. Ultimately great breakfast - for a small Myanmar city it was a quite pleasant surprise. Nice balcony to spend an evening out of the room. Locared in the city downtown - easy to find anything.
Good accomandation, Bad bus tickets.”
They sold us expensive VIP bus tickets to Bagan, when the bus arrived to the bus station we realize that we got a regular a.c. bus that cost half what we paid.... but no one to complain at the bus station offcourse :(
We stayed in a standard hotel room and it was great. Clean and new so really nothing to complain about!!! The travel agency on the same ground is also great. Due to health issues we couldn’t go hiking so we did a motorbike tour to see the mountains and the Shan villages. Good drivers and great guide!
Mr Charles hotel is a good starting point to base yourself before trekking the Hsipaw region. They have a restaurant (a little pricey, but still affordable), they have trekking tours available from the front of the property (if you can, trek with a local named Erik, he is very good value), they have luggage storage whilst trekking, and they have bicycles for rent to explore Hsipaw town.. Overall, very comfortable and affordable accommodation for those travelling on a budget
Something for everyone”
They have back packer accommodations in one building and hotel rooms on another. A full travel agency, tiny pharmacy, and can arrange great treks into the tribal villages with local guides from these villages. It still retains a small intimate family atmosphere despite having all these helpful services.
Great hike, nice hotel.”
We arranged our 2d1n trek through Mr. Charles. Our guide, Joa, was fantastic. We had such a lovely time with him and his family in the village. We stayed one night at the guesthouse after the trek and were very comfortable. Despite all the negative reviews online, our experience here was great. Would highly recommend hiking wth Joa!
Brilliant staff. ”
Lovely staff who do everything possible to make you welcome. By far the best place to stay for organised treks. Rooms were big and clean and it was refreshing to see an Eco minded policy on such things as optional towel re-useage. Breakfast wasn't great but the people overseeing it were. If I'm in the area again would head straight there.
Mr. Charles turned out to be a great place to stay”
Mr. Charles was recommended to us by a fellow traveler while in Chiang Mai who had just spent a month in Myanmar, and it couldn’t have been a better place to stay (thank you fellow traveler!). The problem I encountered a lot while traveling through Myanmar is that I was making reservations during my trip, but didn’t always have access to a printer to make a copy of the voucher (it was just enough to get internet access in most parts of Maynmar that we visited!). This seemed to be a problem at the front desk as they all required a voucher. Though I was never refused a room because I didn’t have a voucher, it started becoming a hassle having to explain my situation to each booking place I stayed which was a total of five in Myanmar. In any case the manager at Mr. Charles, a very nice woman, told me it was no problem and asked if I could mail my voucher to her from the lobby where there was wi-fi and they could print it out, and that solved the problem. Mr. Charles Hotel was a pleasant five minute walk to the market. Hsipaw attractions are actually all within walking distance, and Mr. Charles location is excellent. There is a lovely separate dining area for breakfast at Mr. Charles and the food was very good. The Shan noodles was fabulous, but they also offer eggs cooked to order, toast, fruit, and coffee/tea. Good, strong aircon in the room, friendly staff, and they knew how to arrange anything you required (bus/train/airline tickets, travel info, restaurant recommendations, etc.) I would stay at Mr. Charles again for sure!
