Be careful what you eat..”
Location, location, location
No electricity during the day, so charging your phone is a pain, and at breakfast the bread was mouldy, everyday... so not much for breakfast. Room is ok though, hot water available at all hours, and the location is fantastic for the northern group of temples, athough Mrauk U isn't exactly a huge place.

Very mediocre hotel in every way possible”
The location was the good thing about this place.
This hotel was incredibly mediocre. The room was run-down and smelled of mildew. The bathroom was very lackluster - the shower had nearly zero water pressure and limited hot water. The sink had too much pressure and would spray everywhere. There was no glass on the bathroom window. The shower/bath was cheaperglass that flexed uncomfortably when you stood in it. The toilet seat was becoming orange from age. The mattresses in the room were okay albeit a little stiff. However, the insides of said mattresses were "leaking" out. On the bright side, the AC worked well. The wifi was very intermittent in the room and in the lobby/restaurant. The people working at the front desk were not particularly helpful. They inexplicably refused to book a Chin Village tour, though we were able to find a tour agency 5 minutes up the road towards town. The restaurant was alright - breakfast/lunch/dinner were nothing special, though it is nice that they will give you to-go containers if requested. The people working in the restaurant are particularly friendly. Upon inquiring with the front desk about this, they apologized. We then asked why they hadn't cleaned the room. They responded by saying that it was not cleaned because we did not leave our key with the front desk - makes no sense since housekeeping has its own sets of keys. I would strongly dissuade anyone from staying at this hotel.

Nawarat Hotel, Mrauk U”
Convenient location for central temples and palace, two lovely receptionists and the loan of an umbrella.
I think it would be fair to say that the hotel bears little or no resemblance, in terms of facilities, to the hotel described on website. I chose the Nawarat because I was looking for 24 hour room service and a restaurant. It had neither. Rain came through the roof and soaked the ceiling (and my bag). This was despite the sheet of plastic which covered the roofs of most of the chalets. There were coffee making facilities in the room but the kettle was 'live'. The paths from the chalets through the strip of grass that I assume was the garden, were treacherously slippery with moss. The whole hotel is in need of a complete overhaul. On the plus side, there was no wifi and the 2 girls at reception were fantastic even if they were unable to fully understand me.

Best value for the money in Mrauk U”
Staff, room, value for the money
The recently built superior room are very nice with a good bed. Only issue is the small bathroom with the basic style shower. Sometimes there is some smoke smell because of the nearby fires in the evening but that's a general problem in Mrauk U. The staff is very friendly and helpful in organising excursions. Especially we can recommand the tour guide Miska (Tel. 09421733894) which is often at the reception and who is a very professional and helpful tour guide.

The place is looking a bit frayed at the edges”
Not far out of town
This place is a bit overpriced for what you get, especially as the rooms are looking a bit old and shabby.

It would be a good place, if not the bathroom”
The hotel staff and location is good
Mrauk Oo is off the core and most popular tourist path in Myanmar (Yaangoon- Inle Lake, Bangan - Mandalay - Nagpali Beach) so we knew we can't expect too much of standard and facilities quality there. The hotel first impression was really pleasing. The front building looking good and clean, and reception staff very welcoming, with good command of English and helping with free maps of temples, etc. The room, which we got, in one of the bungalows, toward end of the row gave acceptable "2 star" hotel first look but the bathroom was horrible. Old, dirty, with mold around the bathtub and toilet you simply want to avoid. The water was hot (thanks for that) but drainage was not working well so having a shower was a very unpleasant. The sink tab was not limescale cleaned for years so water was flowing sideways and making a fountain around all bathroom. The hotel location proved to be good, but we would not want to return to this hotel ever again, unless they make bathroom clean up and work well.
