overlooking the sea views to swanage/sandbanks and Isle of wight 10min walk to town. Bus stop outside hotel.
I loved the location as it was by the sea and its not far from all the restaurants it was short stay but will come back again for sure !
The location is this hotel's strongpoint. Personnel are efficient and welcoming.”
The estate is in need of some attention. The pool is out of operation and foliage has collected in it, as well as the environ. Guests can use the pool of the sister hotel next door in fairness. The windows in the room need replacing due to age. Overall, it's an acceptable hotel with a superb location. I'd prefer free parking as a paying guest. With refurbishment, it would be very good. The personnel compensate for the shortcomings with the infrastructure.
Average. Staff could be better ”
Hotel needs attention in terms of aesthetics, exterior looks very shabby in comparison to the pictures on the booking site. Hotel in general is fine and the breakfasts were good, but the reception staff are rude and unhelpful to guests. We had two rooms booked on different floors, and the receptions description of how to get to the room was completely incorrect and left us wondering the hallway for ages trying to find the room which turned out to be a split level one flight of stairs up from reception. We also asked twice about parking as I made the booking as was driving the guests staying at the hotel but not staying there myself. She never answered my questions but then told the guests rudely that she would have my car fined if I didn’t register the licence plate after I left. Which if asked how to do twice and tried on the iPad at reception to no avail. Need some customer centricity training.
Lovely spacious family room, with equally large bathroom. ”
Not withstanding the generally very favourable comments given above, it was a pity that the hot water in the bathroom was problematic. It could take several minutes for the hot water to arrive for a bath (or shower) and occasionally would then run cold for a while before the hot arrived again. On one occasion the shower would run cold continuously. Very invigorating but not what l expected first thing in the morning !! In conjunction with the sister hotel next door which offered more extensive leasure facilities - indoor and outdoor heated swimming pool, spa and fitness room etc at no extra cost. Although the spacious lounge bar did offer a reasonably extensive menu, the kitchen facilities seems to be limited with very slow service, at least when we were there - nearly one hour wait which pushes young and hungry children to the limit, and even the adults. Strangely no children’s menu. Only available in the main restaurant in the sister about 100 yard walk away, none at East Cliff.
Dirt place, no hot water first day, poor breakfast
Excellent location, but the hotel is really run down ”
This hotel has excellent location. It really doesn’t get any better than this. Rooms are very spacious and clean. The rest of the hotel is in desperate need of the refurbishment- from the swimming pool to the reception and the lift. If you have mobility issues, don’t use this hotel as there plenty of stairs and places you cannot reach by the lift. We were never helped with the suitcases and reception staff were quite unfriendly. Parking will cost you £10 for period of 24h which I found just ridiculous when you already pay quite a bit for the hotel. This hotel really has excellent location and there are no many more benefits apart from that
Hotel was located in a great place. Staff were friendly and gave excellent service.”
Good place with excellent location but in need of a refurbishment ”
Great room in terms of space for the whole family (2 adults and 2 young kids) but needs a bit of refurbishment (e.g. the bathroom's shower was half broken, the shower glass did not hold in place and we had to jam a piece of paper under it so that we didn't splash water all over the bathroom).
Needs work! ”
We arrived at approx 8:30 sat evening and were shown to our room. We requested a family room with a sea view and received confirmation in the Agoda app messaging that our request was "confirmed and approved". But the room we were shown was did not have a sea view. When we raised this with the hotel they said that Agoda had sent the message not the hotel and they had no other rooms to provide us with. The mattress protector they provided was a duvet cover. We asked for extra pillows and were given two cushions in a pillow case. The bins had not been emptied from the last guest. The bin in the bathroom was broken. There was no air-condition. The night manager was generally quite defensive and when we complained about the pillows he said "I didn't provide them to you". Surely as manager you are responsible for the management of the hotel. The towels were dirty, the duvet was dirty and they had to replace some of the pillows which were also dirty or stained. It was not until 11:00 we managed to settle down after everything was addressed that we managed to get the children to bed. Although we complained about the heat the night manager failed to offer us fans which the day manager said they had a ready supply of. Overall, the building needs work and looks quite d and worn. That said the day manager and day staff were a lot more accommodating. Breakfast was salvageable - there was something for everyone but they only had one person attending, not good if you have a hungry kids - so they ran out of plates etc. regularly.
Not as good as I hoped”
The staff were very friendly and polite. The room and facilities were all a little past there best, which was disappointing. The mattress was not very comfortable in the room. We had an adjoining door in our room, which was not sound proofed so you could here next door speaking. Breakfast was good, although some more fresh fruit options and bread options would have been nice. The fruit salad was mainly apple. The additional £10 charge for the car park was also alot, considering other hotels offered free parking to their guests in other local hotels. I do not think I would stay again in a Hallmark hotel, after this experience.
We stated in 'Grove Suite', room 2218. We did not expect such a room but we were all very pleased with this. The room is huge, and the bed even bigger! Beds very comfy, bathroom nice and clean. Added extras such as ironing board, iron and turbo hairdryer was appreciated. Only snag would be is that the hot water for the shower takes quite a while to come on. We had to leave water running for around 8 mins to get hot. Seems a shame with so much wasted water. Nevertheless- would definitely recommend this hotel . Lovely views from the terrace bar, and we had good use of the pool and jacuzzi next door in the sister hotel. Also, reception and bar staff very nice and accommodating- my little girl was greeted with a 'Princess pack' which was a nice touch on arrival :) We will be visiting again for sure!
Hotel needs upgrading.”
Booked this hotel for Easter weekend. Got the family room on 3rd floor, rooms were spacious and clean. However, it was extremely disappointing to find that the shower didn't work due to extreme low pressure. Provided with alternative single room for shower on first floor which was useful but with the hassle of taking young kids to another room for shower and getting them back to original room to get them ready. Hotel also needs serious upgrading on lifts and carpet which pretty much looked ancient. The swimming pool wasn't appealing as it didn't look clean.
Delightful hotel ”
We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed everything. Lovely room, sea view and balcony. Very clean and spacious. Nice staff and helpful. Would definitely return with the children anytime.
2 day Christmas break”
Great location. Swimming pool was in the hotel Nextdoor which is a walk through the car park. Nice hotel with a bit of character. Family room was huge. Would recommend if you get the right price. The outside is a little tired and could do with new windows and painting also just clean the windows would be nice.
Near the beach and also main street. Many hotels with the same name so don't go to the wrong one!”
Generally good hotel with pleasant staff at check-in. Asked if there was a seaview room but unfortunately they were fully booked for the period I was there. The lift seemed a little noisy as it went up and down the levels (time for a little servicing, perhaps?) and there were some stairs that I had to lug my luggage up (within the same level) to get to my room. The room that I got was on the first floor but there was minimal noise coming from the outside. There is no A/C but a fan provided sufficient ventilation. One issue I have would be the thin walls between the rooms. I could hear doors slamming throughout the morning and that provided me with a wake-up call! I booked this hotel initially with the purpose of using the pool, but was a little disappointed when I got there and was informed the pool was closed and I could only use the pool at their sister hotel next door. I wasn't very keen on carrying all my swimming stuff to another hotel to be honest.
Rip off. I was at first trying to look past the fact that the whole hotel had no air conditioning on what was probably the hottest weekend of the year. We could not sleep in the heat. All they put was a small desk fan. Which is actually poor for a room demanding over 200 pounds per night not including parking. And the signage to the room numbers did not include our family room so it was a struggle to find. But after I saw that the sofa bed was laid out for us and no one had observed that it was broken and my 10 year old almost hurt herself just from sitting on the bed...I complained and fair enough they brought a spare bed in as soon as they could. But After the management told us that they will bring a spare fan but never did, And we saw the pool in the pic was out of action and we had to use the neighbouring building's pool and then the next morning seeing that the breakfast area there laid poorly washed dishes still soiled with egg left out for guests to eat off.it got too much
Very nice stay at this hotel . Out door pool looks nothing like the picture, hasn’t been touched since last summer or maybe even the summer before! Revolting! But I would stay again. Perfect location who needs a pool when you have such a nice beach.
2nd or 3rd visit to this hotel ”
Having been to the hotel before We were well aware of its great location for. Not only the town and it’s clubs ,restaurants and shops but also short walk to the beach The bar area is really busy nice and food great. You can also use the bar at the distef hotel next door which also has really good leisure facilities We agai. Chose to upgrade to a balcony room with s view of the sea in the morning Something g about the mood of the waves and the sand between your tied that’s good for the soul
Evening dinner? Where? No thanks!”
In 2017 I expect en-suite facilities and would avoid a shared toilet down the corridor. Fortunately here the en-suite was present. Where was the Restaurant for an evening meal? In another building down the road! Not great when it's raining.
