great location, vibe and staff”
we really enjoyed our stay at music city hotel. the hotel has a great location, very close to a lot of restaurants where you can eat dinner and breakfast and close to multiple bus lines, so it is easy to get your way around town. the hotel is music themed, with a lot of photo's or artists. the staff was very helpfull, they even found a great place for us to see a concert, which was one of the best experiences we had in San Francisco! our room had an attached bathroom and was cleaned every day. overall a great experience and would definitely recommend going here!

It is wonderful to hear you had such a memorable and fun-filled visit! We love to hear when our guests are able to take full advantage of our central location and all of the surrounding restaurants and venues available. We hope to see you again the next time you are staying in San Francisco!
Great value for the price”
Overall, this was a great stay. We stayed for 2 nights and just needed a place to sleep as we were out exploring San Francisco all day. The location is decent but at night walking from the BART to the hotel you had to go through some rougher neighborhoods. Would recommend taking a cab. The rooms were great and clean, and the bathrooms were spotless. If you are looking for a cheap, easy place to stay that is clean and in a good area to explore San Francisco from, stay here.

Hatching wonderland”
The famed beatnik culture of San Francisco has seemingly gone with the winds from silicone valley... yet Music City Hotel/Hostel shines a light of optimism in this disappointing tide of change. When the downstairs bar/venue is completed I'm sure this place will be the go-to for those with a nose for the artistic echoes of this famous city... however I wonder if the prices will rise with the completion of the facilities.... nonetheless I will look for a bed here if I ever-again grace the streets of San Fran Psycho ;)

Stellar Last Minute Find”
Booked this for a weekend last minute. It’s a hostel not a hotel so be aware. That being said, we enjoyed our stay here. Staff super helpful, allowed to me to check in late remotely. Could not have been a more easy process! Room on smaller side but clean and comfortable for a quick weekend trip. No AC which made the room a bit warm and stuffy but bearable. Shared bathroom very clean and functional. Overall musical vibe of hostel super cool. Hostel right next to parking garage so very convenient to park cars. Price of garage was reasonable compared to prices charged by standard hotels. Hostel close to many restaurants and bars. Neighborhood a smidge grungy but felt safe. Just keep usual awareness when staying in a big city.

relaxing”
Last minute choice to stay in San Francisco and I choose this hotel. Nice location if you like to eat. I'm a army veteran and I woke up each day at 4 am and walked so if you're lazy then San Francisco may not be for you.

Wide bed in the female dorm rooms”
I arrived at SFO about 9pm and the reception close at 11 pm. I took a shared ride van to get to the hostel quickly. I was surprised with the size of the bed. It's super wide and two people could stay there. I will stay there again when i come to San Francisco next time.

excellent value”
i was initially apprehensive about the shared bathrooms but it turned out great. i didn't have to wait as there were enough to go around. bathrooms were also acceptably clean. great location, easy walking to union square area. the music studio wasn't a problem as they wrapped up by 11pm. all in all, great price accommodation in notoriously expensive San Francisco.

Cheap, convenient and very hospitable!”
Music city hotel is a cheap hotel. Seriously cheap. People might think this could mean they are not good at some services or something. It's okay to be a cynic or criticize others. I must admit I could be neither after staying here for 6 nights. The people at the reception desk are super friendly. They serve nice hot coffee from 9 am to 11 pm! Room is cleaned every day. Yes, you read that correctly! Every single day!!! How many hotels do that these days?! If you are going to be in SF for some work and are near the vicinity of this hotel, don't bother looking to stay anywhere else. I bet you won't regret it!

helpful staff”
If you are looking for a hostel this place is pretty good. Staff were really helpful and quick to suggest things like transport to airport, attractions in San Francisco and directions. The actual building and furniture are pretty dated but they are kept clean which is good. About the location, it is not exactly near Union Sq or SFO CBD but it is a good 15 minute walk on a slow pace. So it's do-able but if you're out to explore make sure you have everything because it is not a quick walk.

Great find!”
We've been going to SF for over 30 years. Living just down the coast a bit, we like weekend getaways in the city. We've stayed at many hotels, from high end ones near Union Square, to off the beaten track ones. The Music City Hotel is a great small lower-end hotel, in the style of older boutique hotels - meaning small rooms, with shared bathrooms. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable, and a great deal for the money. The location is in Polk Gulch, where we've never stayed, but will return. There are lots of great restaurants and it was a lovely walk to the theater district. I definitely recommend this place.

We are so happy you found us and hope you keep us in mind for future getaways to the city. Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback from your stay. It is wonderful you were able to explore a new part of San Francisco after all these years as Polk Street certainly does have a lot to offer.

Good Location, No Parking, Hostel-like Experience”
I was underwhelmed by the room and the shared washroom (one of which was out of service) The parking situation is also a bit rough due to the the streets having a rotating cleaning schedule. Also the administration of the hotel was more like a hostel. I would describe the hotel as a fusion between a hotel and a hostel. I was expecting these issues because of the reviews, and for the price I was willing to accept some compromises. The hotel met expectations and was reasonable. You won't likely find a cheaper option at this location and on that merit I would recommend this hotel.

Nice and clean place for a short stay in town. Free apples and tea and coffee during office hours..”
No common area though so it's hard to in touch with other people than in your room. I really liked the music theme of the hostel which gave it a great character. Staff is welcoming and attentive, always eager to help you. One of the best hostel beds I slept in (room 108 lower bunk bed) with massive space for me as well as my large backpack. I would recommend it and would definitely come again!

Big Bang for your Buck for San Francisco hostel/hotel!”
Great central San Francisco location, clean neat dorm rooms and reasonably priced for short term stay! The upper double bunks were a bit difficult to get in & out of! There isn't a community place or room to hang out or eat! The coin op laundromat has been removed.

Hello George, Thanks for sharing this feedback with us. We are very glad to hear that your enjoy our location, price, and the cleanliness of our rooms! We are currently working on developing a common area that is specific to hotel guests, however in the meantime, please enjoy the common area location on our basement level, among our music rehearsal rooms. Hopefully, we will get our new common area up and running shortly. All the best!
Clean, Nice Beds, Free Coffee & Microwave”
Good value if you don't mind staying at a hotel without air or heat. Generally not a big issue due to San Francisco weather. Good location with lost of restaurants and coffee shops nearby. The hotel only allows guests who do not reside in San Francisco which assures no problem with types of people who might disturb other guests.

Excellent stay in an upgraded room”
Booked a single night and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Booked a single room with shared bathroom at a very competitive sub 100$ discount price, but was upgraded to an ensuite room with private bathroom so it turned out even better than expected. The Room was large and clean and bed was comfortable, with pretty much anything you'd expect from higher end hotels including a large TV screen, good wifi connection, etc. The only concerns worth considering: 1) Hotel is not in a private building, and reception is on the second floor which required climbing stairs. 2) Reception is not 24h and the website only indicated the closing hour. I arrived at 8:00am and had to wait until it opened at 9:00.

pleasantly surprised”
Booked a private King with en suite and we were very pleased.comfortable bed and clean bathroom with no shortage of hot water. Tv didn't work but we weren't there to watch tv. Based on other guests comments there weren't many bathrooms for shared rooms. Music plays downstairs till 11 pm but as the hotel advertised this we couldn't complain and being the end of summer it didn't bother us as we weren't getting home till after dark (about 9 pm ). If it is a concern maybe ask for a room on higher floor. Good location. On the border of Tenderloin and Nob hill. We walked to fishermen's Wharf but the number 19 bus also runs down Polk Street which is the closest intersection. Few homeless in the area but they didn't bother us. Few good food options nearby, I'd recommend the Crepe House on Polk street. Grocery store and pharmacy also located within 2 blocks. California Street cable car another option to get across city. Buy the day pass for unlimited ride.

Perfect start spot for exploring the city”
It was an excellent starting point for the trip around the city. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom - a bit chilly, though still acceptable. There're excellent music rehearsal rooms in the basement, so I'd especially recommend this place to all the musicians.
