Fun, friendly, great food and helpful owners - stay here!
We stayed in one of the treehouse rooms for four nights and enjoyed every one of them. Mutu makes amazing Sri Lankan food. We enjoyed a range of breakfasts (served in our balcony) and rice and curry dinners. Habarana town is a short walk or cheap tuk-tuk away and has other good eats/shops/street vendors. Ajith (Mutu's husband) was always on hand to ask questions, have a chat, recommend and book excursions. We saw plenty of wildlife sat on the balcony. It's a small chilled out place away from the busy road, but in a good location. We would highly recommend staying here - have fun.

2 night stay
We were doing a 7 day whistle stop tour of Sri Lanka, Negombo-Habarana-Kandy-Galle. We stayed in Mutu village for two nights. It is conveniently located in the countryside near Habarana. The staff and management were amazing! Very friendly and helpful. They arranged a jeep safari and a day trip to Sigiriya/Polonaruwa at very reasonable prices, you will not find cheaper elsewhere. Mutu village doesn't serve alcohol but welcomes travellers to purchase their own in Habarana to enjoy in Mutu, which I found refreshing. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner twice in Mutu and were very happy with the local food, at least three curry options we rice, noodles, bread and vegetables. We really enjoyed our short stay and would recommend Mutu to anyone with a similar itenary to ours.

Overhyped
Location. Food.
No hot water for entire stay. Very cold at night. Only a sheet on a 12C night. No one available to ask for a blanket at 10.30pm. Everything was locked up. Given 2 sheets the next day. No blanket. No hair dryer.

Not a boutique hotel but fine for two nights
Tuk tuk driver, breakfast, dinner
We arrived late in the evening and just wanted to shower and get to bed. However the towels were dirty and the water pressure not good! Was hot though. Room rather damp and doesn't resemble pictures we saw online! Breakfast very decent, and a lot of it. Dinner also excellent for 600 rupees. Felt like the manager was ripping us off a bit on the jeep minneriya tour but I guess we'll never know. The setting of the guest house is nice, in an idyllic jungle. Another strange thing was I asked if our room would be made up and he said yes. But when we got back at 7pm, it wasn't done. So I asked and he said "oh we don't usually do that". Quite strange given he said earlier it would be done! Wouldn't trust the manager.

Comfortable homestay
Comfortable room, friendly and very helpfull owner, and great diner
Mutu Village is a gem. The small homestay currently has 4 well designed and confortable rooms. It is located in a quiet area. The best reason to stay in Mutu Village though, is the owner. He is friendly and was very helpfull in arranging some photography for me. And last but not least, diner was delicious.

Best place to stay in Habarana!!
Home cooked meals (breakfast&dinners) from Mutu were superb, Ajith is very helpful with information on the area and planning trips and we felt very welcome and safe. Definitely recommended!
We stayed for 4 nights and enjoyed the place very much. The family, Ajith and his wife Mutu, took very good care of us. We loved the home-cooked breakfast and dinners which were a variety of typical Sri Lankan foods. Every day something new to taste! Ajith knows the area very well and has a lot of information on things to do and see. He can organise tours as well by car or tuktuk. His brother is a good driver and brought us safely to Kandy. We would definitely recommend their homestay if you are looking for a relaxed place with a personal touch. Habarana is the best place to see all in the cultural triangle.

Flee! Scary!
Even though we had pre-paid through Agoda for three nights at Mutu we knew we could not stay here under any conditions!!! It's located at the end of a dirt road in the jungle. The whole place appeared to be a left over constructions site with bits and pieces of sand, bricks, children's toys....projects began and abandon. A plastic table and chair set sat askew under some dusty banana trees and the whole property was a wreck. The manager took us to our room and it was dark with the window at the top of the room like a detention cell. One look at the bed, the room and the general chaotic atmosphere told us to leave as soon as we could get the car started!! The place had no space or meal arrangements for our driver and the manager suggested that he walk down the filthy dirt road to see about accommodations for himself.

My worst decision at the Cultural Triangle
Comfortable bed, home cooked meals, friendly staff
Location is so far from the center, and Habarana is not an ideal place to base yourself for the cultural triangle. The rooms are beautiful, to say the least, but for most of night, my room had no electricity. I wasn't able to do the things for the night, like grabbing dinner, because i was waiting for the manager to come back for security reasons, He left the guest house to come with the other guests. And only his children are manning the place. I find it incredibly unsafe. There was construction going on the next day, so a peaceful sleep is nothing but a dream to me. I woke up at 6 am. There are many mosquitoes in the garden, so pack some citronella for your safety. The breakfast was good but lost my appetite because of the bad experience. I called my tuktuk driver from Dambulla to pick me up so i could change hotel asap. The owners are nice people, and would like to get to know the guests on a more personal level but my experience was so terrible at Muti i don't think i will ever recommend this place to anyone i know. And for the price, totally not worth it. Peace.
