Lovely rooms on a wonderful beach”

                Best room we got

My Lan Guest House is not really a guest house anymore. It has appr. 15 one year old bungalow rooms which have the best standard we have seen in Vietnam! We do compare with budget hotels but anyhow surprisingly well equipped and big rooms. They are also more expensive than you expect so far away from the city. Still value for money. Bai Sao beach is also the best beach on Phu Quoc compared with Long beach and Ong Lan beach. White sand as long as you can see and few people. There is only one small neighbore hotel and maybe another hotel far away. In daytime local people come in buses spending there time on the lovely beach. There is plenty of space also for them and the hotel outdoor restaurant seems to have capacity for them all. In the evening however the hotel personell seems tired after the busy afternoon and you dont get any service in the restaurant. Luckily the neigbore hotel restaurant is open and good. The breakfast is simple but tasty. The hotel are also making money on the absense of taxis. “I´m sorry but we cant get a taxi for the moment. Our minibus can drive you to X for so and so much Dong.” This price is clearly more than a taxi would cost. As long as you dont want to go to the city every evening but spend your time on the lovely beach or in your well-equipped rooms and as long as you dont get bored with the neigbore restarant this is a very good choise.

                Wonderful beach with few visitors”

                Great location, good comfort

my lan guest house is located on one of the best beaches of phu quoc island, bai sao beach. my lan lies almost at the center of a small inlet facing south; the green hills on the back makes it a natural shelter from the rest of the island. it's a great location if you're seeking some isolation from the other main beaches and resorts of phu quoc. there were few visitors during my stay, and most of them came from other resorts in the northern part of phu quoc.

Best beach, white sand and lot of sun

We stayed 2 nights at guest house, very thing was ok. Do not expect service and foods better. Do not compare a guest house with hotel 3 star or 4 star or resort. If love beautiful beach come here to enjoy day long with white sand, blue sea and more sun. We love Bai Sao beach - the best beach at Phu Quoc islands. Booked the fishing and snorkeling tour, it cost around 16usd/pax which was good.

                Weekend getaway”

Clean room, good internet, friendly staff

We were the only guests at the hotel for 2 out of 3 nights. The manager was very friendly and upgraded us to a air-conditioned room (we reserved one with a fan). It was easy to rent a motorbike and organize a snorkeling tour with a staff member that spoke excellent English. The hotel is really far from anything so we ate our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel restaurant. The seafood was good- had seafood hotpot a couple times. Breakfast choice was sufficient. The main reason we stayed at this hotel off the beaten track was due to reports of the beautiful white sand beach and crystal clear waters. Unfortunately, we did not find this beach to be the most beautiful on the island. In fact, Long Beach appeared cleaner. To credit the hotel, they did have a crew racking up garbage every morning. The problem was the busloads of tourists that came for the day and littered all over the place. The fact is, Vietnam has not yet managed to develop a litter conscious culture so no matter how hard the hotel tries to maintain it's property, there will always be plastic bags, beer cans, and diapers floating around in the water and laying on the white sand. It's a shame but if you don't expect to find a pristine beach like on some of the photos I've seen of Phu Quoc, you won't be disappointed. You just have to look past the rubbish.

My LAN Guest House is modest in facilities, however; spacious and clean. The Guest House manager is very accommodating and speaks good English. The main attraction is the clean beach and water right at your doorstep.

                Beach, beach and beach!

The only negative thing we could say about this hotel is that the room smelled like sewer. Easily fixed and would make a huge different. The beach is probably the best on the island of Phu Quoc. The staff are helpful and try really hard.

Beautiful beach, food and the room

I had read some of the reviews here stating things like mounds of trash on the beach and even complaining about a little gecko on their bed lol, First there was VERY little trash on the beach, the trash that was there was from the night before and the staff cleans and sweeps the beach at 6:30am every morning. The geckos yes you have them in the room..it's an island far away from the party scene so of course you will have them. The staff was great especially a waiter (an older guy I forgot his name) who speaks great English and ALWAYS helpful, The guy who checked me in was really nice as well as I checked out after 2 days at 11:00am, but allowed me to stay on the beach and store my bag free of charge until my motorbike ride to the airport came at 2pm. Overall it was a great experience for me as I loved the place, the rooms are FANTASTIC and the menu is great as well. Definitely will be back when I get another break! Thanks all!

Bai sao is a great beach in this season. And this is the only beachfront resort here. The staff is kind and helpful. Everything is good except that they don't have water boiler. We need it for our baby. We have to ask staff everytime we need boiled water. The entry road to Bai Sao is very bad, especially after rain. The food here is fine and not cheap. However, if you take a bath later in the afternoon, this will be your only choice for the dinner since other cheaper restaurants usually close at 6pm around here, or you will have to go far.

Good but expensive option on a isolated beach”

                beach

We (2 friends) have stayed off-season (beginning of november 2012), we have been the only guests in the guesthouse. The room (bungalow) is 15 meters off the beach , there are hotel common area (restorant) before the beach so this type of room "Beach front bungalow" is not really beach front, there are no beach views from windows. By the way, "Sea view bungalow" is the second row of bungalow buildings, with windows regarding the sea side through the first row ("Beach front bungalow"), so you will see not the sea from there. Bungalows are new, spacious and good as in 3 star hotel rooms, but there are some problems with hot water. There are no services at all , the staff don't speak english excepting of 2 people and it's difficult to look for them to ask some evident services, for example, to make up the room or to bring toilleteries (that should be basic service without asking for). The included breakfast consists of one plate (asian or eupopeen) , one drink (hot OR cold) and some fruits, not all plates in the menu were available. So it is poor. The beach Bai Sao is very duty , but really nice beach on the island with really white sand and beautiful views. It is very busy of coming visitors during the day time , but we were the only people staying for overnight. There are only 2 guest houses on the beach. In the evening (after 6 p.m.) there are nothing to do there , just to have diner, diner options are expensive (comparing of vietnamiese prices) and basic in beach restorans. If you rent a motobike (USD 10 per day), roads are in very poor conditions (the beach is 2.5 rm away of the main road), so it could be dangerous to go out of the beach during the night time.

Fabulous location right on Sao Beach”

Perfect for families, groups and single one that's looking for peaceful sunrise mornings and more. The white Sao Beach is still probably one of best beaches in Vietnam. But most of the adult Vietnamese people and restaurant owners has no respect for keeping the area clean. It's lot og garbage everywhere and the cafe and restaurant owners don't care for keeping their place clean. But this mentality u find everywhere in Vietnam... All places on Sao Beach closing 8 pm so if u not like early evening u need renting a bike.

                Difficult to say”

Why difficult? All depend on what people want. If u go to my lan hotel, beach of my lan is clean, If u go further u have many garbage. They no clean there. If u go saterday ore sunday, many local people come, which is not a bad thing. But on those 2 days many busses come with schoolkids, and make many noise. If u want to stay for diner, diner choice on ghe beach is very poor. My lan kitchen was not open in eventing, we had to go to an other restaurant (Only 1) on the beach. Food was good. For us, we stay 1 night, and That was enough. For out opinin, go to long beach, And start ore end tour vacation with 1 night at my lan. Unless you Really want quiet, No many choice for diner. Then go in the week.

Lovely, clean rooms on a beautiful beach”

                Clean rooms with modern ammentities

Originally, I chose to stay at My Lan because it was supposedly the only hotel option on the beautiful Bai Sao beach. In actuality it isn't, so for those travelers with light baggage, consider exploring the area for cheaper options. The highlight of the place would be the condition of the rooms - clean, bright and with nice bathrooms. Keep in mind that housekeeping isn't on a daily basis and rooms are only cleaned upon request at reception. The lowlights are: 1) Service: There is definitely a surplus of staff but you wouldn't know it by the lack of service. 2) Beach: The beach is beautiful but unfortunately dirty. The staff make an attempt to rake the debris and rubbish albeit futile since their disposal site is the adjacent hotel. 3) The hotel is a good half hour away or ($25 taxi ride) from the town. The hotel doesn't provide any shuttle service which can leave you feeling somewhat isolated. 4) Way too much MSG!!! Even if you ask for no MSG, be prepared to cope with a little bit in it.

Right on the beach but poor service”

Nice new big bungalows to a good finish, location

this is the best beach on the island it isn't even close. however, it comes at a price as everyday the beach is decended upon by tourists on day trips they come on boats and by bus they are mostly vietnamese tourists and there are probably over each day. unfortunately at out time of staying there in july there were even more boats using the bay as a harbour so in total there were probably 20 to 30 boats anchored there which spoils the beauty of the place to some degree. my lan is primarily a beach restaurant for these tourists and is there packed every day full of them and this is where there attention is focussed. there is very little attention given to the guests and in fact the bungalows were mostly empty when we were there. the service was subsequently very poor and it was very busy loud and not a nice play to be. we walked to the other end of the beach to escape the chaos which isn't ideal. there was also a mobile broadband company with a pa system there most days playing loud vietnamese advertising and songs on a loop. lastly we got very badly bitten inside our bungalow by some kind of lice or mite too small to see. it wasn't bedbugs but was very unpleasant and needed treatment.

                Spoiled vacation!”

Our stay in My Lan Guest House was a huge disappointment from A to Z... Dirty average beach, very expensive bad quality food, not nice staff. We knew that this beach was quite far from the center with main activities but idea of staying isolated some days on the "paradise" beach seemed nice and romantic to us, the problem was only that the beach was absolutely not like we were expecting! The water has gray green color even in the sunny day (and not turquoise like on the pictures we saw in the internet) the beach is full of trash and the water is really stinky and there were some jelly fishes, the only nice thing is that the sand is white. I've swam just once during our stay because I felt a bit disgusted. As this beach is considered like the most beautiful beach of the island (and on this i have to agree because the long beach is really horrible) they organize a daily tours to Bai Sao beach and bring hundreds of tourists from another parts of the island by busses and boats. So during the day the beach is sooo crowded by mostly vietnamese tourists who really have no manners, they are shouting, spitting everywhere, throwing the trash on the beach - really disgusting! And the epic center of this crowd is just in the beach of My Lan Guest House. And in the evening the beach is absolutely empty, because there are only 2 small hotels on this beach and only 2-3 places to eat with insanely high prices and terrible really terrible quality! The restaurant of My Lan Guest House is the worst, breakfast was terrible as well.. Almost all the staff of the hotel doesn't speak a word in english and they are absolutely not helpful and not friendly. We had to take 30 mins taxi everyday to go at least to eat something better than on our beach, we've seen most of the island and it's really not beautiful at all, the beaches are ugly, it's super dirty everywhere, they are building plenty of new hotels in the island, trying to make it like a second phuket, but they don't take care

Nice hotel but service needs improvement ”

                Nice rooms, nice location

spent three nights at my lan. the rooms are spacious, well decorated and clean. the bathroom is great by any standard and if you've been in vietnam for some time, then you'll know it is worth the extra money for a nice bathroom. the beach is beautiful, very much like the white sandy ones found in thailand, minus the tourists. unfortunately, it is filled with rubbish and staff can be somewhat reluctant in disposing of them. the hotel is a fair distance from town so bring everything you need if you don't plan on making the trek. the hotel doesn't offer any shuttle but they have taxis on stand by during the day. expect to pay around vnd for one way. the cheaper alternative would be to rent a bike but not advised at night time. the food is good but has lots of msg. be sure to ask them to exclude them so that you're left with only a little bit left. portions are very large and intended to be shared, so solo travelers, start with one dish and see if you require more.

                2 nights in Bai Sao”

                beautiful beach with white sand

Guest house is quite dirty. I stayed 2 days and they didn't clean my room. Bad was full of bed-bug, I still have red spots on my body. Staff in restaurant will never come to you until you will come by yourself. Breakfast starts at 6:30. The last day I had a take at 7am, so I came at 6:30, but there were no one till 7a.m. A girl came and told: "you have to wait". What?! Wait??? So I won't recomend this guest house, too expensive for this awful servise. By the way agoda.com or this hotel take 15$ for booking cancelation, but they don't write it anywhere. Outrage!!!

The bungalow eas spacious and nice, and the meals served under the palmtrees overviewing the White Beach and blue ocean...

we had four very relaxing days, beautiful nature. it is possibel to snorkel, some corals nearby. the wiifi was not worning, but we had net access from the staff room which we couleurs use at any time. we did not go to visit the islands south of the island due to heavy wind, but i would recommend such a daytrip. the staff spoke english well, and was very helpfull.
