Not much fun”
Nobody in the (not very big) village had any idea where this place was. We spent a couple of hours walking back and forth with no result despite having the address written in local language by a very helpful lady at the transit office across the lake. Finally went to a police station where a guy was able to accurately point out the direction and tell us the street number in English. Further walking shows that there is no sign and not even a street number on the building. The lady at the reception desk next door was kind enough to call, as this is another outfit that economizes by having NO RECEPTION. On the telephone the owner stated she could not sign us in unless I gave her the voucher number. In sixty years I have made reservations with my name. She had been able to process my card info for payment already. The kind woman from next door took over, and yes, it WAS doable by name after all. The room was tiny, but adequate. Bed was too hard. The bathing facilities (shared) were clean, and the showers were great... plenty of volume of hot water. Glad I did not need to use the "squatter". I think all places "catering" to tourists should at least provide hand holds for us older, disabled types. Breakfast, as advertized, was delivered at 7:30 am; two burgers in a bag hung on the door knob. Tasty enough. On balance, as a person who has stayed in many "economy" hotels, this place was disappointing.

No staff and bugs in the room”
Check in was after 3pm so we arrive at 1:30pm and went to see if we could leave our bags in the hotel. We were met by no staff except a phone number for the manager, she told us to leave the bags in the restaurant next door. After finding the restaurant the owner (who spoke no English) told us to put them in the lobby of the hotel where the door was wide open and nobody there, perfect should someone want to steal the bags. After 3pm we wanted to check in and again no one was there, so we phoned the manager, messaged etc no answer. After 4pm she appeared gave us a key and left. The room was ok except the bugs/cockroaches they were constant, as soon as you killed one another appeared. There was a strong smell of bleach near the bathroom however the bathroom itself wasn't clean and there was a excrement stench in the toilet/shower. Overall I'm glad to have stayed one night don't think I could've done another.

Sun Moon Lake Vacay”
I stayed here for 4 days to visit Sun Moon Lake. Naluisland has a prime location with walking distance to Ita Thao Pier, the Nantou bus stop and other hiking paths. Naluisland is clean and has a simple useful layout for each room. TV includes HBO & CNN in English, there is a mirror, drawer space and chairs. There is temperature control in each room. There's also a common eating area. I stayed alone in a regular room but could've easily fit 2 others since there were enough sleeping accommodations. The free wifi has relatively good reception. The Naluisland staff is reachable by phone, Facebook and the Line app if they aren't at the front desk. There's also a giant bell to ring if they are needed and next door. Breakfast is delivered in the mornings. It's not fancy but if you're just staying in the area to visit, it's nice to have a quiet and close place to come back to after hiking and biking all day.

Just to name a few things: 1. No staff (only a guy that dropped the ac remote and left within 10 seconds) 2. Sigarettes and ash in the hall, reception, toilet and rooms 3. No security, door was open/unlocked and everyone could walk in 4. Bed is rock hard. 5. Owner does not keep her promise (breakfast was one and a half hour late, and not very apatizing). We had to call her and she seemed annoyed and sleepy. 6. Very loud noise from a machine at night ( I think the hot water tank), bring earplugs! 7. Filthy toilet and shower 8. Rooms were all trashed and not cleaned. I had to find a broom and clean my own room upon arrival (there is obviously no one at the reception to go to). 9. Some of the roof had come off, and was laying all over the place. 10. Even the furniture in the room was not in its place. Just avoid this place, it is unpleasant. The owner does not care at all
