Stunning location.”
Hotel has a large balcony overlooking the river--a great place to just sit and soak in the wonderful views. The large delicious breakfasts are served here. The hotel is quiet and only a five minute walk to town. The owner is very knowledgeable about the area and runs tours.

Noisiest place in town”
There is a flotting restaurant just few meters away who start his music at 9AM until 23 PM!!! The manager also have a travel agency, if you don't take is tour he we will be the worst with you! Also all day long there is only one man who doesn't speak english to manage the place... And the room doesn't worth this price, it's crazy expensive and it's also really noisy, you heard a water pomp, people next door and above... I stay one month in Laos and it's the worth place i have been. If you want some tranquility go to Muang Gnoi to the veranda hotel, the bungalow are cheaper and soooooo relaxing....

Nice quiet location”
Glad we stayed here, its a little walk from restaurants but it is very peaceful. Only noise from the occasional boat passing. Room comfortable. Get a room upstairs, less noise from other guest's and better view. No facilities at the guesthouse. They have a lovely area by the river but no beer or snacks for sale so you can't really enjoy it.

Very good”
Its a homely atmosphere, facility is between bus stop and main tourist area, both in comfortable walking distance. River view is nice but staff often not available for requests. If you stay on first floor be aware that every move is heard in the ground floor :-) If visited in winter months be aware to have enough warm clothes, it gets quite chill inside the room.

Lovely setting, OK room, poor staff”
Staff rarely around reception , when they are either its an old man sleeping on the floor or a rude woman asking if your checking out although they already had a prepaid booking. Terrible noise in rooms as no noise insulation and no privacy when people walk passed with a thin cloth over the windows

Good view, and peaceful place. ”
We stayed here for 4 nights. It has there own balcony which is very peaceful and lovely. And not too far from city. Close to market but little bit far from restaurants. The coco restaurant was our favorite. It takes 10min by walk. Mr. Mang has his own tour shop. So you can ask him for the day or 2.3days trips. But we are not sure if it is cheap. Costs of tour is not clear so you have to compare with an-others. There were many bugs, even cockroach. We saw a huge one in our toilet.

Ended up sleeping on the street!!”
Book this through agoda, when we arrive the owner (?) said it had no available rooms. It was a bit late (9pm) so we couldn't find any other place to stay at that time. Maybe they don't use agoda or cross check reservations made here and other places. Good luck!

Wonderful place on the river”
WiFi was great, the owner was friendly, the place was beautiful. They serve only breakfast, which was good value for the money. The Lao coffee is strong!

Only so-so”
I did a fair bit of research on different options in Nong Khiaw before booking at Nam Ou River Lodge. First, the good: the location is great and the view of the Nam Ou river and the cliffs is amazing. The owner, Mang, is also fairly amiable. He runs a tour company in town and, as others have mentioned, will definitely hit you up to book a tour through him. I booked a day long tour through his company to visit Muang Ngoi. I enjoyed the trip a great deal. Now the negative: Mang quoted me a price of $35 USD for the trip, then charged the other two people on the tour $30 USD. When his guide called him the next day to confirm the price I had to pay, he said it was $35 USD and that was AFTER he had charged the other two $30 USD. To his credit, he did correct the amount but that was only AFTER I raised the issue with him. So the moral of this story is - by all means book tours through Mang's company but make sure he is charging you the same price as others. Also, I would say that, if you have an aversion to bugs, Nam Ou River Lodge is not for you. I had a lizard, spiders and mosquitoes in my room. There is a mosquito net above the bed so I wasn't too worried about the mosquitoes. The lizard and spider also did not bother me, but the day I left I found a huge cockroach in my room. I'm not overly phased about these things, but if you have an aversion to bugs, this is likely not the place for you.

Excellent view to river & landscape ”
Relatively close to bus Station, but a bit far from town center (bridge & harbor). Great view from all rooms to river & surrounding landscape. Peaceful, picturesque setting. Owner was never around, not even in his agency, to which we went 3-4 times. Although there was always staff around, it felt a bit abandoned. Maybe due to low season and water festival...

Peaceful location, nice view, difficult to communicate with staff ”
A really nice spot away from the more touristy bridge area with a nice view and huge room. Decently comfy beds, mosquito net, and cramped bathroom and shower. Biggest issue was communicating with staff- only 2 people speak English. If you need anything, you'll have to wait and check again to see if someone new comes and if they speak English. They were all very friendly, however. Would reccommend.

We had a paid booking here, but when we arrived they said they were full.”
We arrived at the guest house, along with 4 others who had AGODA bookings, and all we were told the guest house was full & we had to go to the hotel nearby owned by a relative of the owner. Four people were taken to another hotel, which they left and they booked into another hotel if their choice. They were going to try to get their money back. We were given a room without proper bathroom or toilet and the next night we had the room we paid for. Other travellers said the guest house was well known for this scam. It's a nasty shock arriving after a 4 hour bus journey to be told your room doesn't exist, particularly when it was booked & paid several weeks in advance. Dreadful behaviour. They also blamed AGODA for the over booking, trying avoid their responsibility for appalling behaviour. I would never recommend this guest house.

Nice guesthouse ”
Big room, amazing river view, very clean. Only down side is it is a bit far from all the restaurants. I was traveling alone and found it a bit scary walking back in the dark from town. But if you're not alone the walk would probably be fine, it's not very far. Would recommend!

Okay ”
When we arrived we got our key and were escorted to our room. To our surprise this was a bamboo bungalow, instead of the room we booked. After I asked why we got another room(They didn't tell us it was different), they told that apparently they accepted to many bookings. A price drop/free breakfast to compensate was not an option. Although the view was fantastic, it is located behind a school, which made it very noisy in the bungalow. (They start early, and they where just building a new building, but this can't be avoided by the accomodation. Also, the restaurants ect are on the other side of the bridge. The WiFi singal was only good at the reception. Once again, the view is great and this accomodation is perfect if you want to relax, but the (new) school building and the transfer to the bungalow room affected our stay. +Our neighbours paid way less (105vs150), as they didn't book beforehand.
