Set in National Park, 15 km from Mount Ruapehu, National Park Backpackers offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and barbecue facilities. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen and luggage storage space for guests. All guest rooms feature bed linen. Guests at the hostel will be able to enjoy activities in and around National Park, like hiking, skiing and cycling. We booked a private double room with ensuite bathroom. When we came into our room, there were no towels. When we asked about that at the reception, the answer was "We don't put towels in the room. Guests must ask for it.". Strange policy! The kitchen was big enough with everything you need. Unfortunatly, tea and coffee are not provided for free. Wifi is also not free. If you want to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, don't book the shuttle with them. Even if weather doesn't permit the crossing, they will bring you to the crossing. There is a better shuttle service at Whakapapa Village.

Excellent location and friendly staff ”
The receptionist was friendly and helpful. The hostel is well located, close to a bar and restaurant, which was helpful as we could find some food at night when we arrived. Room clean and tidy. The only inconvenience was the noise coming from the roof at night (but I was glad that the people upstairs didn't take too long to fall asleep). The comum areas are very handy and we could find everything we needed. I would recommend that.

Listed as free WiFi, but that wasn’t the case. Our room smelled like a bottle of fabreeze was spilled everywhere, even with the windows open. It’s okay for the price, but there are better options if you don’t need the other facilities and just want a private room/bathroom. On the positive, It’s nice having a restaurant/bar right next door that is open late when not much else in town is.

This is your typical ‘old style backpacker’ backpackers. Walls thin, floorboards creaky, beds average. Doesn’t look like anything would have changed since it opened. People are really here just for the hiking, so a lot of early risers which was also me. It was clean enough, kitchen was fine. Bring some earplugs to ensure you get a good sleep before your big hike. Paying for wifi with ‘mb’ packages? Really? Guy who checked me in could be a little more friendly mannered also. Fine for one night, gets the job done. But if you want to stay more than that, perhaps check some other options in the area.

Perfect stay for the Tongariro alpine crossing”
Perfect 1 night stay. Great staff and big clean kitchen. Only downer was having to pay for wifi but when the room is cheap it doesn’t really bother you. Quick tip: we were able to get a cheaper shuttle via Backpackerdeals so worth shopping around. We paid $60 for 2 people (with a code)

今回4人部屋に泊まりました。部屋は広く窓からは山が一望でき、とてもキレイでした。しかし施設自体が少し古いのか床が一部ギシキシなり凹んでいたり、備え付けのオイルヒーターが余り暖かくならず夜、朝は寒かった。また、トイレ、シャワーは部屋専用だったが電気ポットなどがなく、お茶を飲むにも下のキッチンにいかなくてはならないのが少し残念だった。

參加附近健行活動很適合的住宿（門口就有crossing bus的車站），我們住private room，但有人在走廊走動或房內交談的聲音很明顯，建議睡眠品質較差的人帶個耳塞，工作人員都很友善，共用廚房也會定時清洗，但因為是經營很久的住宿了，共用設施都比較陳舊，廚具都有些年紀，洗衣機也常壞（我們住兩晚，烘衣機全都不能用）。
