All staff except for one to be shown the door”
Terrible attitude on staff. Major training needs to be implemented. Extremely bad behaviours and poor customer service. I will be emailing the owner, as I feel the business will suffer further. On checking in the lodge it was filthy. Ant invested, no towels and cold water. The reception manager! If you could call her this couldn't be bothered with anything. Too complacent and has had the job too many years, doesn't look like anyone does anything. The team is far to young and poor skill set. One older lady was an exception. Very helpful on trying to find a solution to the issue.
Awesome cheap fun treehouse accommodation.”
Great value for money. I'm not one to moan though, I do have a couple of gripes. 1. The road from town is really slippery and dangerous on a motorbike. Also, take care if walking to town as we had a scary run in with dogs!!! 2. The cashier lady was rude and felt like as customers, we were intruding on her time. 3. We had issues with water being supplied and ended up having to buy it. The conversation was stupid which equaled their collective position, stating the first bottle was free only but, house cleaning would top up. We didnt trouble house keeping so like... duh! Elephants: We went to Mondolkiri with the view of visiting elephants until we discovered they are all basically rented. We attempted to Google where we might find them as well as a couple of entrances to a couple of the larger parks to trek and see wildlife. Nothing! Good place to rent bikes and eat is 'the hangout' and 'Bamboo cafe'.
Worth a visit”
This place is beautiful. Rating location was difficult because it's quite far from town but it's worth it for the view, quietness and relaxed nature feel of the place. Only wifi in the communal restaurant/reception area as villas are too spaced out to service everyone but was fine as the communal area is such a nice place to relax. They also train local people in hospitality, which is wonderful despite the sometimes limited English - again, worth it for the employment and training it brings them. The food is really nice as well, with a mix of western and Asian.
Amazing value ”
This is a unique and charming Guesthouse with character bungalows, outdoor bathrooms, comfortable beds, amazing atmospheric restaurant, excellent coffee and food. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly.
Awesome glamping experience”
My young kids ran wild and free for eight nights! Love the coolness of December-early January, the friendly staff, everything! The only negative is the cows crowded round our campfire one night and ate our hotdogs and even the paper goods, and head butted some of us. They were a pain but my kids loved and named each one, so well worth it!
Paradise found in Cambodia”
I've lived in the hot, dusty city of Phnom Penh for seven years, so finding the Nature Lodge in Mondulkiri was like finding a piece of heaven for my family. The Nature Lodge is in the complete boondocks-you won't find a western restaurant or anything western at all within hours of this place. However, if you have young children, they can run in the yard all day, swim in nearby streams and creeks, explore jungle trails, and just be kids, all within a twenty minute drive of this hotel. Upon check in, at first I thought the staff were going to be hard to deal with and make our stay an unenjoyable one. They had put my large family in a single room, which would not have done at all, despite my request on Agoda for a double room. The staff pretty much told me I would have to deal with it, they didn't have anything else, but after three tries I convinced them to move us, which they did. After that the staff grew on me and I found them pleasant and accommodating the rest of the week. One even helped us try to get an enormous toad out of our toilet:) The rooms themselves are not really rooms-they are more like primitive log cabins. When I first entered the cabin I was skeptical that we would enjoy our stay-I am not a fan of spiders, mosquitos and living outside, which is what I thought we were about to encounter. I quickly adjusted, though, and convinced my children that we were "camping out", which is really what the Nature Lodge is-a bit of a camp out! The bathrooms are completely outside surrounded by walls that don't reach the roof, so you can see the stars while you do your business. Each cabin is it's own, so you have your own tiny house to yourself complete with bed and outdoor bathroom but not much else. The food situation can be tricky as your only option is to eat at the Nature Lodge's restaurant, but the menu is big enough and we brought a week's worth of breakfast and saved money by eating in our room every morning. Overall, I cannot say enough about th
Stay for 6 nights and it was great. The hotel was putting in new mattresses so the bedding was comfortable. Liked the rustic cabins and enjoyed hanging out in the main Restraunt Area to read and have meals. Loved the Bon fire at night which was a pleasant surprise and the staff were all very nice. Pretty big selection on food and all was good. You do need to ask for housekeeping to come clean your room every couple of days. I look forward to me next stay. It is a great place for kids just to roam and explore nature.
Close to nature, excellent!”
Overall, Sen Monorom is an amazing place! we paid a visit to the nearby Butang village and it was awesome. The hotel was so close to nature and we got to enjoy superb sunset and countless stars just outside of our room. It was centrally located, a few kms away from the main street and the hotel could arrange for tuk tuk to go to anywhere you need to go. the food at the restaurant was good too and the staff was super friendly and attentive and responded super quickly to our requests!
A countryside retreat. Great service.”
The bungalows are simple yet perfect for the surroundings. The staff are always willing to help and the food offers everything from nutella pancakes to curries. It was easy to book a tour for a day or more and it was well worth chatting to the guide to get a broader understanding of the surrounding area. The position of the lodge makes for amazing sounds from the valley at night.
The place is quiet and peaceful, although a little far from Sen Monorom. We loved the animals that roamed free around the premises and the chill-out vibe the place had. However we felt the staff were perhaps too chill - most of them could not speak English, but those who could, we felt like they didn't care at all or were not happy to assist us in anything.
Hot water failure, has leaking and rude staff”
This place is dangerous. At least the bungalow where I stayed. The hot water stopped every time I attempted to take a shower and I will have to call someone to fix it when I was with my hair full of soap. When the hot water would stop the big low would get filled with some gas smell and then they would fix it by cutting and pasting some pipes but next time I was attempting to take a shower the same thing happened. Staying in this place is wasting your money. Food also is very expensive and extremely bad quality and as it is located far away from the city center you simply cannot go some days to eat somewhere else. End of all. The staff is extremely rude. Thy should have apologized for the warm water Jade but they did not. They treated my with rudeness when it was really hard form me staying there is rainy season. It gets pretty cold there and not be able to take a hot shower in one go.
Not what we hoped for”
Positives: + Our basic bungalow was nicely sized + Own porch with hammock + Warm shower + Lovely common area with free pool table + Horses and cows are roaming the property Negatives: - Loud engine noise throughout the whole day (probably a generator?) - Far away from the city, prices at the restaurant are expensive. - Lots of new houses are being built which results in additional noise. - After a day of rain it got so extremely damp in our room. Our entire bag was wet! We felt so uncomfortable. - Due to the dampness the bed sheets and pillows smell very unpleasant. - Lots of bugs and lizards in and around the bungalow. One night we had a rat in the bathroom. I understand that it's off-season right now but the loud non-natural noises of machines totally ruined it for us, we hopes for a little retreat away from the city.
Great place in a lovely location ”
Great spacious rooms with large bathroom In a very scenic location not far from the town or animal sanctuaries. Bar area was great with lovely food
It’s a very nice place in forest!”
Very cozy and comfortable place in forest. Nice and beautiful window view. Small but very convenient place! Nature lodge is a little bit far from central point but valuable to stay
We loved staying at the Nature Lodge! It was further than expected from the center of town but it was easy to find a tuktuk. We will definitely be back.
The bungalow was so cute and cozy. The bed was comfy and the outdoor bathroom was fun and relaxing! ”
It is a great place to settle in and relax orbto go see the sights. If you don’t like bugs and critters it might not be for you, but otherwise it is great! I would NOT, however, recommend the elephant sanctuary they sell. It is a joke! There are two others in town that are much better and more organized!
early morning you can hear the sound of cow, house, birds...... it's super close to nature. However, without your own transportation, it's kinda hard to reach it from town to the hotel the pizza is super yummy while the drink is so-so only
A beautiful natural retreat to recharge and enjoy the present moment”
I stayed at the Nature Lodge for three nights in September while visiting Cambodia. It offered a welcome break in my seven-month backpacking trip around SE Asia. I fell in love with the setting, the animals, and with the beautiful natural and rustic bungalows. It was so hard for me to leave this peaceful place where I felt so relaxed and grounded. Pros: (so many!) - Amazing deal on Agoda ($8 per night for the whole bungalow) - The eco-friendly nature of the resort: most of the material is from recycled wood. Lovely semi-open-air bathroom with terracotta sink, rustic wooden planks and plants. - Great privacy and peace as the bungalows aren't too close to each other. Prefer place to relax on the hammock looking at the nice landscape. - Feels like being on a ranch with all the cows and horses grazing freely around the property. - Super friendly and helpful staff. Little story to illustrate that: The day I was supposed to leave the resort, I started having a really bad migraine. Even though I had already checked out and was supposed to take a night bus to Phnom Penh, the staff allowed me to go back to my room to get some rest. Since I wasn't fit to travel that night I asked if I could stay one more night and they accepted. Seeing that I wasn't well, the manager rubbed some tiger balm on my forehead and massage my back and shoulders. I felt so much better after that and was so grateful! Lovely lovely people! Cons: - No breakfast included - The food is good and diversified but a little on the pricey side. Since you're completely secluded and 30 min. away from the town you don't have too many other options. - Some issues with communication as many staff members are still learning English. The Nature Lodge is one of my favorite lodgings in Cambodia and probably of the whole SE Asia right now. I recommend you allow yourself to spend several days there to absorb the peace and tranquility that this place has to offer. I would definitely go back!
Fantastic and homey stay surrounded by animals and nature”
I have been traveling in South-East Asia for the past seven months and this place is my new favourite! I immediately felt at my home alone in my cosy little bungalow built on stilts above a pasture where healthy cows and horses are grazing freely. Everything has been built with natural material: recycled wood planks for the exterior and the interior, stone flooring and ceramic sink in the bathroom. And the beautiful natural addition are the plants in the bathroom! In addition the staff is just amazing despite the language barrier. They were so helpful from the beginning until the end of my stay. It started by one staff member pulling my suitcase all the way to my bungalow. It continued with another staff allowing me to use the room I had already checked out from when I came back from the elephant trek and needed a shower and some rest before taking a night bus the same night. The same person helped me to book my bus ticket and to change it when I felt sick and couldn't travel anymore, and even gave me a massage that relieved my bad migraine. They went the extra mile, and I'm so grateful for it. I can only recommend this place with all my heart for those who'd like a little peace and tranquility in the comfort of a stand-alone wooden bungalow surrounded my animals and nature while watching the sunset on the valley.
We loved staying at nature lodge and stayed four nights because it was so relaxing. The staff at reception and in the restaurant is so friendly! The food is a little pricey but also very delicious. There are cows and horses running around the whole area and the little bungalows feel like a woodland fairytale. In regards to other comments about bugs or spiders, we had no issue and the mosquito net worked well but the huts are not sealed off to nature so do expect the odd ant or bug around the bathroom and the floor. And definitely geckos (they are super noisy!) but you don't get closer to lush green hills and clean air than this in Cambodia!
