Gorgeous accommodation. well set out, confortable beds, well appointed bathrooms. we had breakfast included and it was well worth it. great spot.
Very beautiful cottages
Very strange and out of place folly; not worth the price”
Why would you build a two storey, two bedroom pokey apartment with only four small windows in the whole place in one of the sunniest parts of New Zealand??? We booked a 2 bedroom family cottage for our brief stay in sunny Nelson. The rooms were dark, and the bare terracotta tiles were uncomfortable, and completely out of place on the steep stairs, which younger family members found challenging. The floor was dirty and pictures in the rooms dust traps. There was a bizarre collection of furniture in the room, no wardrobe. Although we were within 300 metres of a stunning beach/waterfront, none of it could be seen from the hotel. The bed was incredibly soft, and the pillows lumpy - after having roll together battles with my husband all night, I was happy to have the car ride back to Picton and the Interislander to catch up with sleep. The location is quite out of the way, and eating options were ltd to the hotel restaurant (not open at lunchtime) or a pub across the road.
Suite was very dark. As a woman travelling solo I requested an upper level room but was given a ground-level unit. Booked and requested transfer to airport a full year earlier but on departure was told no such transfer was possible on weekend. However, the Manager covered the cost of my taxi so not all was negative.
Amazing customer service”
The 2 bdrm cottage was perfect for 2 couples traveling together. But my review is more about the hotel's customer service. We were scheduled to arrive the same day as Cyclone Gita and they went out of their way to make our trip smooth. Not only did they email the day before and advise us of the expected storm, but they also briefed us upon arrival of their storm emergency plans and gave us a little care package in our room in the event of a power outage. Fortunately, nothing happened, but I was really impressed with their attention to detail - thanks!
Dear Susan Thanks so much for your review/feedback, guest/staff safety and comfort is our first priority hence our planning and forethought. Hopefully, former tropical Cyclone Gita didn't spoil your impression of Nelson! You'll have to come back at some point in the future and see the extraordinary Nelson/Tasman in the glorious sunshine we're famous for! Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
Great but just a bit out of the way.
Hi there Andrew Thanks for your review/feedback, I was delighted to read that you enjoyed a great stay with us recently. For people reading Andrew's review, the hotel is located about 5 minutes drive from Nelson airport, and approx. 15 minutes drive to the Nelson City centre. Local shops and (two) supermarkets about a 15-20 minute away (in each direction). Many of the local tour operators, especially those operating to the world famous Abel Tasman National Park will pick up and drop off guests from the hotel. Once again, thanks Andrew for your stay, we hope you enjoyed your visit to the Nelson/Tasman region. Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
Absoluetly is fantastic”
Very romantik place
Hi there Sukru Thanks for your review, we're delighted that you enjoyed your recent stay with us and that you thought the hotel very romantic - that's precisely what we hope people will think when they stay with us. Enjoy the rest of your time in New Zealand. Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
Fantastic place to stay, the only downside was too close to airport, no air con so you needed windows open, but apart from that perfect
Hi there Gary Thanks for your review/feedback following your recent stay with us, we're delighted you enjoyed your stay. Our proximity to the airport works both ways, some people find it extremely convenient being so close to the airport, for others it's a distraction. Although none of our rooms are airconditioned, we do have a (limited number) of fans available to assist with air movement to cool rooms in summer. Once again, thanks for your review. Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
Nice stay in spacious older style accommodation”
Our 8yo loved the fact that he had his own room with 2 beds and ensuite. The Restaurant was very good quality. Location is very close to the airport though 15 minutes or so from Nelson itself. We enjoyed the duck pond behind reception and had a very pleasant stay. One tip: I am 195cm and the door height of the old style units was about the same, actually maybe 1-2cm less so maybe choose an alternative if you are extremely tall.
Thanks John for your review/feedback - it's great to know you and your family enjoyed your recent stay with us. Terrific to know that we made your son's stay with his own room. Our gardener has got the duck pond looking great at the moment, he's just got the fountains working again after many months (?) of being out of action, we've also got in a number of water lilies which are now beginning to flower. Gee I hope you found the bed long enough to get a good nights sleep. Enjoy the rest of your NZ holiday and all the best for a great 2018 - I hope it's a great year for you. Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco

Quick visit to Nelson”
We recently visited Nelson, and decided to stay at the Grand Mercure. We really enjoyed our visit. Loved our dinner at the restaurant. Tommy was a wonder and super helpful. Couldn't recommend more. Priced great. Brilliant food.
Hi there Damien Firstly, apologies for the delayed response - I have only just figured out how to get into Agoda to write management responses to guest reviews! I was delighted to read that you enjoyed stay with us in June. You're quite right, Tommy is amazing - in fact, he is one of the finalists for the Waiter/Maitre'd of the Year award in the 2017 Nelson Hospitality Awards, the winners will be announced 21 August and we so hope he wins! Thanks for the compliment on the food at The Monaco Kitchen. Warm regards Nick On behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
Fabulous... Staff.. Room and Room..”

Fantastic two bedroom cottage. Huge. Comfy lounge and huge arm chairs. Lovely cosy fireplace. Two big bedrooms and two bathrooms with Great showers. Good base for exploring attractions by car or bike.
beautiful resort hotel”
Design of the hotel was lovely as a whole village in Monaco. Near the Tasman sea. Beautiful interior design of bathroom, bed room and living room , within one unit. Restaurant provided good dinner and buffet breakfast. Friendly pukeko bird and ducks outside restaurant window were adorable.
Location is far out of town and hard to find.
Insecticide permeated our room. Had to change no posdible way of staying in this room”
Has a restaurant on site. Room in upstairs area are a big shlep and difficult to lift luggage up the stairs. room at the end of buildings are a long way from reception
