Five people + an under 2 year old in a motel room without adequate room to move or storage or hanging space for 4 nights was not what I thought I had booked. We were given a rollaway bed, which was requested, except there was really nowhere for this to be placed. All beds were up against each other. The room was dingy and rubbish was still under the bed from previous guests. The freezer section of the bar fridge had not been defrosted in some days and one main electrical switch was cracked. I obviously did not read the 'motel' part of the booking as I thought I had booked an apartment. I do not believe that the accommodation was legal in this instance so we moved out after 2 nights and went to another apartment block. Why did we stay 2 nights? Tried unsuccessfully to find something online after the first night. I had read the reviews but it appears we did not receive anything like the rooms described in some of the reviews.
Close to everything”
I enjoyed my stay at this Motel. I recommended it to my mother, who also enjoyed her stay. The Italian restaurant on site is very good. There are KFC and McDonalds within 100 mtrs, but right across the road is an excellent Thai restaurant and the historic Pineapple Hotel which both have fantastic range of food and prices.
Stones throw away from city”
I had a decent stay at this hotel for 2 nights. I stayed there because I went to the stereosonic festival. The hotel was cheap and affordable. It was clean and updated and it even had a microwave, kitchen sink and toaster. The check in and check out was fast and the reception guy was polite. It is located in a quiter part of Brisbane (kangaroo point) and there's some bars and restaurants close by and close to the gabba and hospitals. There's 2 things I didn't like about the hotel is that it is next to the busy Main Street so you hear cars speeding past at night and if you stay on weekend the buses to the city only go every hour. I will stay again if I go to another festival because it's cheap and clean.
Cheapest best location we could find ”
This place was a mix bag. It was cheapest we could find for that weekend but we got what we paid for. It wasnt a room we wanted to lounge around in. It was a room that we used to sleep and shower in and thats it. Its dated. The carpets are terrible but it was in a great spot. Across the road from pineapple hotel, close to Southbank and cafe next door for breaky. The managers were very friendly, especially Julie who helped fix a booking error that the previous manager had mis informed me about. My friends room was in a worse state with curtains hanging off the rod but otherwise similar. Bed was ok but not super cozy. This is really just a place to stay for convience not a place for a romantic get away etc as it doesnt make you want to hang around in the room. The staff are really friendly and tried to go extra mile where possible and I think are trying to turn things around and make it better.
Close to the hospital ”
The apartment set up enables preparation of light snacks.
Our second floor room had major damage to the bathroom door, fridge did not close properly, and at no stage during our two night stay did our room key work (meaning we needed to return to Reception to be let into the room). Location to the Gabba was the only positive to this accomodation. Very dissappointed, and would not recommend to others. Staff offered a 'shoulder shrug' type apology for the poor condition of the motel, stating that they manage to be booked out regardless of the condition of the accomodation.
Great place to stay”
Staff are very friendly and helpful, would stay again, walking distance to many things
Friends of mine stayed in the normal rooms and they were extremely small. The old saying couldn't swing a cat comes to mind. I however stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment. It was very spacious with a great kitchen decent size bathroom and balcony.
A 5 minute walk to the Gabba”
Great place to stay if going to the Gabba. Has an excellent Italian Restaurant attached offering breakfast & dinner. I always book an apartment for space, the double rooms are like a shoe box with no windows, awful. Car parking is a squeeze.
Perfect for the Gabba...great value, great staff.”
My husband and I attended the BBL at The Gabba. We needed somewhere close and convenient. IGA 1 minute to the north & KFC and Maccas on the way to the Ground-only a few minutes away. ATM at Reception. Staff were wonderful and welcoming. Our room was small, but had everything- kettle, toaster, coffee tea, good air con- even a small balcony. Ensure you check in early-car parks can be limited when they are fully booked. We were lucky enough for the manager to move his car-and move ours into that space! Overall a great experience.
Reading the reviews I was a little worried but the location and staff were outstanding the worse part was the noisy drunk teenagers but that can't be helped! The staff were incredible helpful and the cleaning staff went above and beyond! Highly recommended for a family
Short stay in Studio apartment”
Our first night was in a newer but smaller studio apartment. When I enquired as to a bigger room, we were moved to an older but much larger studio, perfect for a couple staying a few days or so in Brisbane. So make sure you ask for the studio in the "Walmsley" rather than "Lockerbie" building. Michael (the owner) is a very nice gentleman indeed and could not do enough for us. I would absolutely recommend this establishment.
Ok but over priced”
There are so many things that just don't cut it. Slippery and dangerous bathroom floors. Internet..forget it,doesn't work in all the rooms and is bad.Lights failed 2 times had to be reset from a switch in the next room causing inconvenience to everyone. No paintings ,interior decor, just white walls, a little like a hospital room (Studio room). Basically no character. Little flat screen TV up high on a wall that you can only see from one angle. Housekeeping cam in once but didn't do anything, just left 2 new towels sitting on the bench and took out the rubbish.Majority of staff were really good but 1 x rude staff with no people skills kind of ruins it for me.Also noisy types stay here and on the ground floor unit, people could see into the bathroom as they were going up the stairs. All in all, after staying in so many nice hotels in poorer countries around the world, at this price, this is not acceptable for a place like Australia at over 90 au per night.
Super friendly staff, clean room”
Was staying in Brisbane for 2 nights and spent this time at Southern Cross Motel. I had stayed there before many years ago and it's improved beyond words. Unfortunately for the two nights the card system was not functioning. However I have to commend the staff at the hotel for being so patient and letting me in and out of my room despite these issues.
Highly Not Recommended”
I don't know where should I start... Honestly I spent only few hours at nights there only over three nights but I hunted 4 cockroaches everywhere. When I talked with the staff, he had a wierd careless attitude who answered me saying that the hotel was sprayed by a professional pest control and cockroaches coming from the drains which are uncontrollable. The bed cover was dirty and the room service didn't vacuum the carpet nor changing the bathroom towels over three days and nights. Honestly, I won't pay for such service that much ever.
Simple Motel, friendly staff and good breakfast”
Nice experience, nice Italian restaurant with excellent breakfast (Big breakfast with coffee and juice for $15 - so cheap!) Close to McDonald, Almost in front of a Liquor shop, pubs and restaurant and only A$10 taxi to the city.
Great for a short stay”
I try to stay here most time when I am in Brisbane for business. The location in great if you need to visit clients North, South, East or West as you can access main Roads heading this way very easily. This location also suits the weekend party person as you can walk to the city or South Bank where there are a number of bars, clubs and restaurants. Located only hundreds meters away from the Gabba sports stadium this is another popular place to stay. The staff are friendly and stay on site which is great for security. The rooms are large, There is a hotel across the road that offers a great menu but if your a fast food person there is plenty to choose from all in walking distance. Over all great location, great people, great value for money.
Great close location ot the Gabba”
I specifically booked this hotel because it was close to the Gabba to watch the Footy. Staff were friendly, easy walk to a great pub for lunch, very good value for money and the room was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again.
I have stayed here a few times, I like the location it is easy to go north, south or west from here. The rooms are standard motel style, the beds are soft, if you are in Brisbane to watch some sport at the Gabba this is perfect. In saying that if your not and there is some sport on at the Gabba it can be a bit noisy. Across the road is a well known hotel that do a great feed or there is a number of fast food outlets to choose from.
Great location but very small rooms”
the room was really small and they allowed smoking in the rooms. the smoke detectors were wrapped in plastic in the two rooms we occupied (we got shifted to another room as the people next to our room were noisy and were smoking in their room). on the night we were there, the police was called. we would not stay there again.
