Quite good ”
Intended to visit Aoraki / MT Cook but no reasonable accomodation was available over there. Stayed here as an alternative option which turned out to be quite good. Like an old hotel, very spacious with two queen beds inside. My room on the ground floor was open to a park which was nice. Tea and coffee were plenty. However the wifi was slow. I have eaten in the in-house restaurant but a good restaurant Poppie was virtually opposite this hotel.
Stayed one night in December and found the hotel check in - out process easy. Staff were friendly (even though working Christmas). Accommodation generally older but the room was comfortable, clean and had suitable facilities. Free parking behind the hotel was good. The hotel was very well located near the main street and with easy access to Lake Wanaka
Nice hotel, comfortable room. Could do with with a coffee machine to compliment the nice open fire in the bar.
Big rooms and comfortable beds”
The room is big and the beds are big and comfortable too. The garden view is very nice. There are huge pine cones and trees in the garden. The hotel is quite old. The soundproofing of the walls are not that good. You can hear people talking in the next room and also people walking in the corridor. I used the guest laundry and find that the dryer is good. The dryer is able to make all my clothes totally dry when I took them out of the dryer.
Clean & very dated devour ”
Hotel was clean but decor very dated and a sea of pink. Beds were comfortable but sheets were very scratchy and sheet had hole right were my feet were so irritated me all night . Very long corridors which took ages to navigate to restaurant . Buffet breaky was very well stocked. Ok for a one night stay.
Staying with kids”
My stay was okay. Booking online was a huge challenge. Suggest if you're traveling with small children to call the hotel before agreeing to pay a huge extra price for bringing kids. We saved $200 by calling.
friendly stuff, value for money”
We were traveling on a road trip and spent a night here. The room is kind of old and as this is motel you can't expect too much. Wifi not available, which is a pain for us as traveler. Not a luxury hotel but if you are looking for some place which is value for money and just spend a night during your road trip. This was not a bad choice.
Everything was great, cant complain about anything, stayed one night arrived at supper time, had dinner at the lodge, breakfast was included. Large groups were checking in at same time, not a problem. All good.
We really enjoyed staying here. Lots of group tourists seem to use this hotel when they travel between Queenstown and Christchurch. Our kids enjoyed playing in backyard of hotel. Also, there is one good restaurant where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, you can walk to the city center given Twizel is really small city. Interior is a bit old but it is OK given most people stay here for only 1 night, I guess. If you travel between QT and CC, this hotel can be a place to stay on the way.
Lovely smile and sincere services”
We have arrived very late, the hotel restaurant has closed already, and no other restaurant open ouside the hotel, the reception asked their bar to lend bowls to us then we can cooking some instant noodle in our room. The queen bed room was commodiously, clean, good view and quietly. And this Inn located near by Mt. Cook and lake Pukaki, but cheaper than those hotel and hostels up on the moutain valley, I think it is the best balance for both distance and price if you are going to Mt. Cook next morning. There are 2-3 supermakets around the Inn, easy to purchase.
Ideal Location to explore from”
McKenzie Country Inn is ideally situated to explore the Mt. Cook region of New Zealand. The Inn is comfortable and clean and we were treated to excellent breakfasts and dinner. The staff were also very helpful in directing us to points of interest in the area. We enjoyed a very pleasant stay. The inn could do with some modernising, but this is only cosmetic.
Nice countrytown hotel offering mid-way stop-over”
It offers a nice mid-way stopping point from Christchurch on our way down to Queenstown. It is fairly close from Mt. Cook (approx 40min drive). The town centre has good supermarket and bakery. Hotel bistro dining offers good range of food with live piano on Friday night. In room facilities are pretty old with small TV but after all, we wanted a quiet location with clean bed for a quick stop over.
lovely hotel with beautiful views”
the hotel was great and we were greeted by the friendly hotel staff upon checking in the hotel.good place to stop by before heading to lake tekapo and mt cook.the hotel was very convenient as it was walking distance to the twizel town centre and supermarket.we will definitely recommend this hotel to other people.
the best location for a base to vist Mt. Cook”
you should not miss out the buffet dinner. many choices of food. and the price is very attractive. 36 dollars for an adult and the children is free of charge. after a long distance of driving from queen town or christchurch, it is a a location to take a rest for tomorrow sightseeing. recommend to stay 2 nights.
Great meal great service”
the staffs are really friendly and approachable. breakfast is the highlight. buffet dinner looked really yummy but didn't try it due to full booking.tried the ala carte menu and they were fantastic. room is quite spacious though the facilities looked pretty old. other than that everything is good. enjoyed my stay.
Enjoyed the hotel and lovely surroundings.”
Enjoyed the surroundings, room and facilities. However was disappointed with the breakfast presentation. With Cromwell being so close with fresh fruits etc., breakfast provided canned fruit. Hot foods kept under "baye marie" leave a bit to desire so settled elsewhere for breakfast.
Great hotel with big rooms and value for money”
this is a large hotel in easy walking distance to centre of town. our room was spacious with comfy chairs to relax in and very clean. the hotel offered food in both bar and restaurant and was good value. staff very helpful.
this motel was easy to find and a good, less expensive option for an accomidaiton while visiting mt. cook. it had all important amenities and was comfortable and clean. the staff was welcoming and accomodation. the room was spacious and the beds comfortable. the buffet breakfast had good variety and was good. no problems with the stay.
Great location and service with a smile”
twizel is a great place to stay, not only to visit mount cook, which is approx 55kms away, but also the town itself is very modern, and has a great atmosphere, seemingly for visitors and locals alike. lovely places to eat, some with live music and entertainment, a number of shops, eateries and community happenings centred around a modern "town square". we enjoyed our stay at the mackenzie country inn, the weather was great, so we could actually see mount cook from our room, which was exciting. we enjoyed a lovely buffet meal at the inn's restaurant (not always buffet apparently), and were very happy with the friendly service and helpful and cheerful receptionist.
loved everything about this place.internet kiosk and laundry (although the dryer was really inefficient and had to be fed coin a few times for a lite load.-but that is the only con i had). the staff is super friendly and helpful and the place is clean, modern and awesome!
