Staff are friendly and very helpful. Very expensive for a small old room though, facilities inside room are not into standard. Place needs an uplift on the inside rooms, but exterior aesthetic looks great. Location is near perfect.
Okay for what it was.”
Actually had a okay stay here. Room clean, bed was comfy, shower powerful. Couple off issues I had, I’d contacted the property about check in time (couldn’t see it anywhere) when I arrived at 12.15 I was told I couldn’t check in till 14.00. The receptionist said she would check the room. It was available for us to check into at time of arrival. But then she charged me an extra $20 I’m not sure why it the room was available. Housekeeping came in and cleaned the room (including moving are things into different places) but just through the bedding into a pile on the bed and didn’t make it for us. Over night certain doors are locked around the hotel and we had to enter with a key at the back entrance (not actually sure if any staff are onsite over night) All in all my stay was satisfactory only stayed 2 nights would probably stay again if I’m in the area.
Wellesley on the Lake”
I was looking forward to my stay at this hotel in Taupo. From the photos on the internet, it looked like an amazing and large hotel. But I was fooled. Although the location was great, right on the lakefront, the service and ammenities were disappointing. When I arrived, at the start of the Easter holiday, there was a stand-in person at the checkin, who was not that sure of the system, and he sent me in the wrong direction to find my room. He was also unsure of available meals etc. I would have thought that on a very busy Easter weekend, at a very popular tourist resort, experienced managers would be in charge. My room was quiet and cosy, but there were very few amenities to be had. Even though breakfast was advertised in the hotel material, none was available in the morning. It was quite a walk to get into the town to find breakfast. The location of the hotel, on the main road opposite the lake, was the one thing that was in its favour. Walking along the lakefront was lovely.
Should have security box for key”
I was travelling from one place to another and the least thing i want to care about is having the key available in some safe without needing to call them in the middle of the night. Overall it was okay but please enable the easy access for the keys.
total waste of money”
Arrived at 12 midday and were told that checkin was at 2pm only, though for a 20 dollar fee could check in on the spot (in other words the room was ready). Rooms are tiny Seems as if owners dont really care about anything other than making money
Close to the city center, nice and clean rooms. The only drawback was that we could not close windows during the night (too stuffy), so we could hear traffic all night as the hotel is located close to a major road. Also note that facilities do not include kitchen or kitchenette, only tea-making facilities. So if you plan to have your own breakfast - you'd better choose another one.
Lovely cosy Hotel, great location”
We stayed for a night here. The hotel is clean and super cosy, There's a nice fire place at the lounge area where guests can chill out for meals or coffee. Room is super small, but at least it's warm during the winter. Staffs are friendly and helpful.
Must Stay In”
Hotel is located perfectly across the lake. Staffs were very accommodating. The room has nice-scented toiletries and complimentary drinks. Would love to stay in the very same hotel the next time we visit Taupo.
Mold in Bathroom. On ceiling and around bath. Lot of dust in main room. This is because of the wall cladding which causes a lot of ledges which were quite dusty. Bedside lamps were awkward and not able to be reached from the bed. I had no fridge and my friend who was also in a single room did. ???
Just fine. ”
The stay was fine. Nice customer service but the restaurant requires a better looking menu. The food was nice. We had the fish n chips and steak. The dessert is lovely too. To stay only for a night is fine for us. Infant or babies stay for free but we were charged for a baby cot NZD20. Bring your own travel cot next time.
Great Location but not so much on the cleanliness!”
As title , the location was great, it is just right in front of the lake , but the room was awful . Not very clean , so i wont said it is value for money.
Unfortunately the unit above us had wooden floors ie: our unit had a wooden ceiling and as a result you could hear every footstep/movement. We were lucky the people in the unit above us went to bed at a similar time as us but we would have got no sleep had they not as it sounded like a heard of Elephants above us. Also lucky they did not have to get up before 7am as it would have woken us for sure and they were not being particularly noisey - just general movement.
Due to a small mistake, they appropriated our fees and didn’t allow us to have a room we had paid for. Most unhelpful staff. Specially an Asian looking guy who named himself Richard. Very rude and unhelpful!! Avoid this place if you don’t want to feel frustrated!
Just don’t expect much”
Bed was damn uncomfortable and made so much noise! Bathrooms definitely do not get cleaned often!!! So dirty! Just don’t expect much for the money you pay. Was positive was location it is in a good spot
Pior atendimento da minha vida”
The hotel's manager the only person who worked at the establishment is a very rude and impolite person. He had no intention of being courteous to the guests much less willing to meet each individual's needs. I've never been treated with such disrespect and rudeness. This was the worst travel experience I've ever had. I would recommend this place to anyone, if you want to visit the beautiful city of Taupo, do not stay at Wellesley on the Lake.
Very disappointed. Room was nothing like the pictures or description posted on the website. ”
Very disappointed. Paid for a queen lake view room; the only thing true to description was the lake view. I asked for a non smoking area, unfortunately the windows of our room were positioned just above the smokers deck. Black mould was evident throughout the bathroom, and it also had an infestation of ants. If you needed to use the facilities, you had to be truly flexible to reach behind you for the toilet tissue. Cleanliness seems to be an after thought. Reception staff were absent and unhelpful, and if you had a question, you were required to contact the reception staff via their cell phone. Forget dialing 0 from your room for reception, it would ring unanswered. Truly disappointing and would not recommend Wellesley on the lake to anyone.
Great location but cleanliness and customer satisfaction does not appear to be a priority”
Great location, only good thing. Room not ready on arrival (3pm). We were given keys but as we approached room the bed had not been made, linen bag in doorway etc. 1 of the 4 days our towels were not replaced and had to be requested. 1 of the 4 days our bed was made...not every day. The service was not good, staff member behind the bar upstairs was rude (when we managed to find her). The bar was unattended for 5-10 minutes while we waited for service. Staff member seemed busy and in a hurry to take order. 1 other couple walked out while we were waiting for food and the staff member didn't have the time of day to show another couple to their seats, just pointed in the direction which left them looking very confused. Car parking was appalling, we were parked in one morning as cars were parked all down the side of building, the spa didn't work but we were only told by other guests. No signs. The main entry door to the corrider for our room was literally falling out of the wall.
Old and outdated accommodation ”
The whole place could do with an update broken bits of bathroom and paint peeling. Think we were stung with a NYE higher price so value for money may be higher at a non bank holiday time. Location is about a 15 minute walk to the main part of Taupo but can easily access the beach across the road!
Right by the Lake. Nice view. Also near to the town center.
Old dated. Dirty including carpets and furnishings”
Worst place we stayed in a month in NZ. Any recommendation of this place reflects very badly on yourself
