nice ambience but needs more improvement
nice ambience, good staff and excellent food
Check in was swift. no verification needed. Poor wifi, room was basic albeit nicely decorated. Needs mosquito repellant to keep swarms of bloodsuckers away. Love the ambience, with kois ponds and very javanese design in the room. Breakfast was yummy, staff was industrious tho they dont speak much English. Will come back for a stay if they fix the wifi!

Room was quite dark but rooms were spacious
Size of the rooms, prompt breakfast service, nice hot chocolate
We arrived quite late in the evening and thought it was odd that they just let us in without us showing any ID or checking in (or giving a deposit). On first impressions of the room, I felt it was quite dark and needed better lighting since there was only one bedside lamp and the extremely dim wall lights (all 3) that did nothing to illuminate the room. It was a nice gesture of hospitality though that they offered us welcome drinks upon arrival (being a budget stay) and never failed to ask what we wanted for breakfast the next day. I personally enjoyed their sandwiches and hot chocolate. I can't comment much on location because we hired a driver to get us around. One downside though was that they did not clean our room daily but when asked they said it was because they were not allowed by the owner into our rooms in case anything went missing.

Wonderful and delicious
The breakfast was amazing and freshly prepared; we loved the decor of the room; and they were so sweet to give us flowers and a fresh fruit basket for our honeymoon.
I couldn't recommend this place more: great people and comfortable, beautifully designed room. Moreover our flight was delayed significantly and they waited and picked us up past midnight.

All right
The room design with old java houses in wood, the good shower and how close is from the center
The pictures of the place are better than the place itself, the service is not very good at all for the price we spent. They don't clean the room never during the stay, the breakfast is pretty simple and then they don't clean the common areas very much. The ashtrays were full of cigarette buds since the day we arrived till the day we left. In the morning they would start renovating something, hammering and making so much noise and you could hear everything from the room not being able to sleep properly. The lighting in the rooms is TERRIBLE, white bulbs that attract all the bugs and that ruin the nice architecture. In general the place service quality wasn't good at all and the price isn't cheap for what you get.

Hospitality at Javanese best!
Nature, culture, hospitality
This place is a gem., One can expect numerous bars and convenience as well as non-local food options (for the less adventurous). MJ homestay is surprisingly quiet and peaceful despite its location. This place has its own cafe witb awesome hot choc. Each room has been tastefully designed around nature with traditional Javanese elements. One can sit outside the rooms and soak in the "santai" atmosphere. They have a common dining area where you can make your own coffee or tea and spent time chatting with the staff or other guests. Staff are attentive but you need to ask if you have specific requests such as outcall massage or drinks from the cafe. They do not have telephones in rooms nor room service but there are always someone around if you need something, . The bathrooms are outdoor-ish - some rooms have bathrooms with an opening at the roof for natural light but dont worry, its very enjoyable and private. Hot showers are available! Breakfast is either toasted meat sandwiches or local rice dishes... And if you can't make it for breakfast due to your busy schedule, you can choose to have lunch or dinner. This place is great for travellers who want peace and quiet surroundings and yet be central to places for shopping and the famous Kraton. The 7 big rooms in the project means you have more privacy and its not crowded, no rushing madness! Rooms may get stuffy in the afternoon but open the windows and doors and you will be okay. Not for fussy or perfectionist guests. At their rates, it is great value for money.the place is as good as the pictures. The place is a little hard to find for first-timers as it is off the main street, but because it is near the Prarowitaman Market, your drivers will be able to find it without much difficulty. Tip: bring your own travel adaptors. If you dont have one, there is an electronic shop nearby. .come here to experience true Javanese hospitality. You wont regret it!

Wonderful stay in beautiful and friendly homestay
Amazing room, friendly staff, location near Prawirotaman area
This is a beautiful homestay in a lovely quiet location. It was close to the popular prawirotaman area which has a great selection of restaurants and cafes and also travel agencies offering tours and transport. There was also a handy Circle K convenience storen nearby which was a good landmark and great for picking up water and snacks. The room was beautiful, the decor was rustic but new and I was lucky enough to be in room no 5 which has a mango tree growing in the bathroom! The staff were very friendly and as helpful as possible though we had a few problems communicating at times. There is a great new coffee shop at the front of the homestay too. There's a TV in the room though I could only find Indonesian channels, but that was interesting! Would definitely stay there again next time I am in Yogyakarta!
