Mouldy smell
Don't let the "New" in New Laos Paris Hotel mislead you. The only thing new maybe only the sign or new management? The building facility is not. There seems to have moisture water issues in the walls.

Dust
Would have been what I expected but for the dust. If you had asthma you couldn't stay here. Weird how cleaners only change sheets and spray the bathroom wet room. Too lazy.

Expensive for what you get, but a good deal for Vi
I stayed in the New Lao Paris Hotel for two nights as a result of a necessary visa run for a job in Thailand. Overall, I was disappointed in the price and condition of the places we surveyed on Agoda; all were poorly reviewed and expensive, in comparison to Thai hotels. Of course, Laos isn't Thailand! We chose this hotel for its cost based on its location. I was there only for business, so not looking for anything fancy. The New Lao Paris Hotel is nicely situated between the main road in Vientiane (near the Presidential Palace) and the riverfront district, with the clubs and and restaurants. Also, the staff were very helpful and reasonable for what they charged. Beyond that, not much good to say: The hotel is old, and dirty, and not well kept; the floors were filthy, and there is no lift. It was exhausting going up to the fourth floor, were our room was. But the air conditioning worked great! This is not a bad place to stay, as in Vientiane you have two basic options: cheap and rundown or expensive and modern, it seems. There doesn't seem to be a middle option. The New Lao Paris Hotel is a perfectly fine place for those on a budget or for those not interested in anything fancy; it is also perfectly for single people hoping to score at the bars, as there is plenty of (sublime) action and nice nightlife not far away. Just don't expect too much.

Acceptable
The staff were so rude. The rooms don't look like anything in the pictures. No sleep due to traffic outside.

Treated like Garbage
I had an excellent five-night stay at the New Lao Paris Hotel back in the summer of 2013, so when I decided to visit Vientiane again I lost no time in booking a room there, and was excited since I knew the hotel had undergone renovations in 2014. Unfortunately, those "renovations" seem to have had less to do with the rooms (which, to me, look the same) than with the level of the hotel's service, which has taken a massive nosedive. I arrived at the NLP on the first afternoon of my reservation and was promptly informed that the hotel was fully booked. When I pointed out that I'd booked a room weeks earlier, I was given a half-hearted apology and told I had to stay in a different type of room for the first night. This turned out to be a small, musty, uncomfortable space right over the kitchen and laundry area, which I found too noisy to endure within two minutes of entering it. I went back to the reception desk to make my displeasure known, and was moved into a room with three beds, a window facing the corridor and an unventilated bathroom. I was pretty well ticked off by now, and let the manager know of my disappointment. His response was that the closure of Vientiane's Thai embassy following the death of the king of Thailand had forced a lot of people to extend their stays since they couldn't get Thai visas. That in itself might seem reasonable enough, but then why weren't THOSE people being moved into lousy rooms or out of the hotel altogether instead of being allowed to stay in rooms for which they no longer had reservations? More meaningless apologies. I was promised I'd be moved by noon the next day (Big deal!), and went off to wander the town. Breakfast, which was a selling point of the NLP back in 2013 and for which I paid extra this time around, was another slap in the face. I went downstairs the first morning and asked for scrambled eggs with toast and ham, then waited about fifteen minutes before the clueless teenage waiter/cook/receptionist, who
