the front desk staff were super helpful in getting an item I left in my safe, back to me, after I had checked out.

The hotel is closed to Atocha train and Metro station, good for those having a trip to Segovia and Toledo.

This sophisticated hotel has 214 stylish guestrooms and is ideally situated in Madrid's famous Art Triangle. The NH Nacional is 14 kilometers from the Madrid International Airport. Located in the Art Triangle, guests are a very close walk from the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Guests are also very close to the Atocha Railway Station and the upscale shopping street of Gran Via. The on-site restaurant serves a variety of Spanish and international cuisine. The 4-star NH Nacional is an excellent choice for travelers seeking classic, yet modern, accommodation ideally situated close to the Madrid's major museums.
"Nice breakfast with very pleasing staffs."

Location is Excellent! ”
NH Nacional was perfect! The location is ideal, as it's centrally located and within walking distance to the main attractions. The Hop On - Hop Off bus is right in front of the Hotel, and there's a beautiful park area across the street. The staff is friendly and very helpful, although only a few speak English. (We found that most people in Madrid do not speak English.) The rooms are very comfortable and well maintained. I would highly recommend this hotel!
value for money”
our travel agent searched for hours/days for the best hotel in madrid based on our budget and we were very happy with the nh nacional hotel. the location was perfect, a short walk from the rail station and our arrival train into madrid, and the surrounding streets and plazas were crowded with people, shops, rastaurants and bars. the rooms are not large but more than adequate for our stay. all in all a great stay.
excellent Madrid visit”
NH Nacional is in a great location for visiting art galleries and access to express airport bus. Room was excellent and breakfast unbeatable. As at Sep 2018 some work is underway in reception area, but this is well managed and not disruptive. As with all city hotels traffic noise can be an issue, but not too bad, (ear plugs a good tip).
Good Location!”
we stayed 2 nights in madrid and great experience. we took airport-bus from madrid airport and bus arrived at atocha train station, just 5 min walk from nh national hotel! the hotel also located very close to sol, prado museum, and many shopping area. good cost performance.
Great location for business and holiday travelers”
Superb location - absolutely winning, right across from the gardens and the Museo Nacional del Prado and a short walk from Atocha. If you need to get between cities, this is perfect. Also the front desk staff were super helpful in getting an item I left in my safe, back to me, after I had checked out. I would stay here again.
great location. great hotel”
had a wonderful stay at nh nacional. the best feature of the hotel was its location close to major attractions.
A good option; but just that”
We've booked this hotel for it's location, 3 minutes walking distance from Prado Museum and just in front of Atocha station. The facade of the hotel still being the one of a Madrid classic building but inside it has just been refurbished. When we arrived we realised our requirements have not been totally fulfilled. We wanted one king size bed and the room they gave us it had two single beds; we asked for a change and then they gave us our original selection. Secondly we didn't book a standard room, instead of it we booked the so called "Superior room" (specially for the space, as they say in Agoda, considering we were carrying a lot of luggage). The size of that room was ridiculous (I called to Reception to confirm if we were actually in a Superior room, because it was small even for an standard room). The size of the room made us uncomfortable as we needed to put 4 big luggages in the floor, no place for walking to the window, the room desk etc...) The style of the room is modern (for my taste too modern, but many people will like it). We also had a problem with the TV: all the channels were black; we asked for help and immediately maintenance was there and solved it. Nevertheless a lot of the channels' signal were really poor and unstable. So as a conclusion I'd say the hotel was ok, but obviously you can find much better options in Madrid. If you are travelling to/from Atocha station it could be recommended for convenience, but I won't repeat there again.
handy location”
hotel was very nice and very handy for accessing all of madrids excellent sightseeing and art. Rooms were nice and spacious with very large bathroom. Free internet was a bonus. Hotel very close to the main madrid railway station which was excellent for us as we were travelling on a global rail pass. Reception staff were very helpful and there were some nice restaurants near by.
great location”
excellent location from the main madrid railway station. Bus stop right outside that includes the hop on hop off bus tour of madrid which is a must do in the city. Great museums and art galleries near by and metro just a few metres away from entrance. Rooms nice and roomy and great bathroom facilty. Reception staff very informative and helpful.
A lack of service excellence ”
Room is really spacious and I really love it. However, I am utterly disappointed to receive the service I had on my day of arrival. During the check in, I asked about the price of the breakfast, the lady told me EUR 23 (can't really remember the exact price) if you book before and I think its 25 or 27 if you do it tomorrow. I told her that I cannot decide now and if I would like, is it possible that I can go for the breakfast and pay upon check out (which is what I experienced in other hotel), her reply was a little rude from my perspective and I could feel that she was irritated with me. Next, I was really excited to see the sport club and spa brochure in my room and hence went to enquiry at the reception but was greeted with hostility. The guy who checked us in has no idea what I was talking about, so he called upon another female colleague who told me there is no spa and added, “I don’t know what you see in your room” but we have no spa here. I thought to myself: “ I don’t know what you put in your room”. I went on to explain “Metropolitan” and with a really unpleased face, she explained that it is far away from the hotel and 15 minutes by car. When I was about to leave, she added, “ it’s not free”. Honestly, perhaps I took it too seriously but I was really feeling insulted when she said that. Who would think that it is “Free”? I can’t help but feel discriminated with the service I have been provided and hence avoided even going near to the reception for the next couple of days to ensure that I can still "enjoy" my stay. I waited for days before writing the review because I want to ensure that I am in a calm and better mood, as I understand that a review is very important for a hotel. The other staff e.g. housekeeping that I met was really friendly, but receptionists, being the face of the hotel should be professional enough to answer queries in a professional way and this is something NH has to work on.
Good for business travelers ”
On this trip we stayed at NH Collection hotels in Caceres and Cordoba, Spain. Both hotels were charming, in good locations and the rooms were attractive and spacious. Also, the staff there were very, very helpful and friendly and went out of their way to meet our needs. We liked that experience so much that, in the middle of our travels, we changed our Madrid hotel to the NH National. The location is across from the train station and close to the three major museums. The rooms are small but clean. If one is on a business trip requiring this location and not in need of staff help, the hotel is suited for them. Otherwise, you hear ambulance and police sirens all night, there is terrible traffic outside the hotel, including 3 or 4 buses lined up at the bus stop, and there is no Guest Services (concierge) on weekends or most weekdays to help tourists looking for directions, information, events and restaurants. There are several other NH Collection hotels in Madrid that are better
Near Atocha Main Station”
Good if you want to go for day trip to other town by train. Delicious breakfast. Nice staff. Comfortable bed. Spacious bedroom. Walking distance : KFC, MCD, Burger King, Thai Food & supermarket. Walk about 15mins to main shopping street. I chose this hotel mainly because I was arrived from Barcelona by train and also I want to visit Toledo from Madrid by train, and going to airport by airport express bus at Atocha station. All these made everything so super convenient by staying nearby Atocha Main Station.
great location”
the hotel is just opposite the madrid main railway station - atocha. we travelled by AVE to madrid and just walk across the road. and metro station is less than 5 minutes from the hotel. however, the area is abit busy. alot of restaurants nearby. wifi is working well but the room is abit small compared to the few other hotels we stayed. walking distance to alot of great attractions in madrid as well. staffs are friendly and helpful. only a handful of them understand english well but is good enough to communicate. would probably stay back in this hotel next time.
Exceptional”
Nice location”
Very closed to the main station and easy to walking into the city center. Easy to park a renral car. Comparing to the price, I will recommend this hotel.
Nice, clean and close to the city center”
Close to the city center. Walking distance to plaza mayor and other attractions. Close to the restaurants around plaza st anna. Clean hotel at decent prices. You can also find some tapas places just around the corner. Walking distance from train station. City park across the street.
Central location”
Next to Madrid Atocha Train Station, very convenient. Walkable to musuems, national parks, restaurants and shopping streets. We were given corner room and there was very weak wifi signal. No hot water kettle facility in room. To note: On our first day in Madrid morning, we came out of the hotel and took a taxi (which happened to be stationary) in front of the hotel to the meeting point of Julia Travel Agency for a day tour and the taxi driver took a long route via some highway (meter showed euro 15 and charged us extra euro10 - he said we had taken his taxi as a booking one. In the end we had to pay euro25 just for a short distance which hotel staff advised only euro7-8. This taxi driver is dishonest. Please do ask for receipt and take note of driver license number. We were unaware to note all these until we spoke to someone on this bad incident.
very nice hotel in Madrid”
Very nice hotel, excellent location in the heart of Madrid. Car park available on the basement (fees apply). Walkable distance of all the main touristic sites on the centre, close to the Caja Forum and Reina Sofia museum.
Madrid Stop Over”
Getting to the Hotel - decided to take the metro in. It costs only 2 euros but takes an hr plus, two changes are needed to get to Atocha. Reception / Check in - Efficient and pleasant. Got a room on the top floor. Room - Quite small for an NH, but had the essentials, clean, quite Breakfast - Opted for a quick bite, but its possible to request a cooked breakfast in the same price Only disappointment - Needed a taxi to the airport that accepted credit cards. They ordered one - but it took 20min to arrive. In the meantime there was one waiting outside the hotel. But the staff refused to cancel the on ordered despite the long delay.
Two nights stay in Madrid”
The location of the hotel was excellent within walking distance of the Madrid Atocha Train Station. The was plenty of restaurants, next to the Alfansoo XII monument and park and also muziums around the hotel to explore. The staff was friendly and the hotel room was very clean. I will definitely consider staying again if I visitMMadrid again.
