Meer over Kampot
The sleepy city of Kampot rests in southeast Cambodia, straddling a river sourced from a lake within the national park. Budget properties can be found throughout the city and especially along Guesthouse Street. Some accommodation can be found within the national park area as well.
Kampot offers several activities and sites to visit, but those who travel here do so mostly for the peace of mind and laidback atmosphere. Many colonial structures such as The Governor’s Residence and the Department of Mines building remain and make for some excellent photo opportunities as well as a peak into the city’s past. The Bokor Hill Station is a French ghost town and can be visited in Preah Monivong National Park. The smaller Kep National Park lies to the east, nestled alongside Kep Beach.
Kampot can be reached by road from Phnom Penh. Bus trips take about five hours, but that time can nearly be halved if taking a mini bus or taxi. Be sure to check out the interactive map of Kampot for information on hotel locations, attractions, and must-see destinations.
