This is my third times staying here, so action speak everything, and Ngong Ping SG is not just a hostel to me it has became my second home,resort and sanatorium. Thank you all the staff (Yi, Alex and Andy) all the best and see you guys soon😊

Additional HKD150!!!”

Negative aspects: *Had to pay HKD150 for the membership whether you want to be a member or not. You have to pay!!! *Hostel is NOT recommended if your flight the next day is in the morning. 1st bus is around 7am+, cable car is at 10am *I find the whole place eerie. Too many abandoned house/restaurant along the way. No one is around while i was walking towards the hostel which is in the middle of the woods *Frontdesk was not around around 8am. I had to call the phone several times and leave a message. You have to tell the person what time you would check out the next day so you can get your HKD20 deposit for the key and if you borrowed a power adapter that's another HKD20 Positive side: *Early access the ngong ping village where you could jog. No one is around at 8am and it's foggy (when i went there) *the tiantan buddha is accessible at 10am *perfect starting point for Trail runs *room is spacious *hot showers, multiple bathrooms *there are tents available if you want to feel like camping *isolation-feels achieved!

Near Big Buddha ”

Golden week Pros: location near big Buddha and hiking. Relatively easy to find the hostel. Clean. Common area with kitchen and cooking facilities. AC works. Close to the airport by bus 23. Strong wifi connection at the office, but weak everywhere else. Cons: the mattresses here are wrapped in plastic and super uncomfortable. they made me pay extra $30hkd because I'm not a member (ok but this should be included in agoda booking system, price with and without membership), the last bus here is at 18:00, everything around is very expensive to eat, kind of limited options. I stayed here during the October holidays because everything else was booked or too expensive, and this place was my only option close to the airport.

Great Location”

The location was perfect for a sunrise hike up Lantau Peak. I met a lot of other travelers during the trip. The local village does close at 6pm. The location is beautiful (even in the rain). One night did get loud and busy with a few families staying in tents.

I stayed at the YHA Ngong Ping Hostel during the Typhoon "Mangkhut", which was obviously pretty scary. Therefore, I had a rather unusual stay at the hostel. However, Fred, who took care of the hostel at that time, was handling it really well. He was very calm about the typhoon, told me how to stay safe and even shared his personal hotspot with me when the wifi was gone after the storm had damaged the antenna. It is not hard to imagine what a great time you can have at that hotel if the weather is not horrible - and even if it is, you are in good hands there! Thanks again, Fred!

Big room with lots of space but you have to pay 25 $ if you are not a YHA member . Toilet very dirty . Nobody work there between 11 h and 16 h so the gate is locked .

This place is a scam and absolute disaster”

Everything is just dirty and stinky, except a location everything is total disaster. We have ordered a twin room however we got just one double bed (even though the staff confirmed long in advance a twin room). Another awful thing is that the price which was paid through Agoda is not a total price whatsoever... The hostel staff pushed us to pay some idiotic club membership for additional 150hk$ which is totally ridiculous. If anyhow you can avoid this place, please do it. This way you will save your nerves and will not be so disappointed as we are.

Best place for hikers”

I've booked the room as it is convenient for me to wake up early for morning hike to Lantau Peak. The hostel is equipped with basic facilities. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I've read the comments before booking it. Few notes to take: 1. Need to sign up membership (annual HKD150) in order to entitle to the stay. No issue for me. 2. Downstairs can be quite noisy as they have family with kids running here n there, playing and shouting. I slept with my ear-stud. 3. Insects everywhere. No issue for me. I got my ear-stud. Unless you are someone fear of bugs. 4. No eatery nearby after 6pm. Just bought some instant noodle cup, egg from reception (closed at 11pm). 5. They will give you bedsheet cover to prepare your own bed. And to be returned during check-out. The no-good part: 1. Limited number of toilet & bathroom. May need to take turn to use it. There are some travelers who are not mindful enough. They didn't flush after it. :( 2. No towel for u. So just bring your own.

Cleanliness : A thorough cleaning is required for the whole area, especially the kitchen and WC. Seems it has not been cleansed for quite awhile. So different from the pictures published. I believe, if only depends on Ah Yi to do it alone, it is rather difficult unless it has been cleansed once and he continues to maintain it. Location : it is good when you wish to hang around Ngong Ping & Tai O, otherwise it is rather remote area. Food : best to have full stomach before 6pm as all eatery shops will be closed by then unless you have your own stock up to cook in the kitchen.

I was stuck late at night in Tai O and the manager did everything he could to help me get to the hostel. He even went out of his way to get me from where the taxi brought me to guide me in the dark. Once I got there, he showed me around and was very friendly. On the day of my departure, the same manager advised me on wonderful sightseeing places around the mountain that I was more than happy to visit! Would absolutely go back if I ever plan another trip to Hong Kong!

Forest getaway with Buddha”

The loacation is very interesting as you are out in nature and only a short walk from the Big Buddha. It was refreshing being out here after being in the city. The cleanliness was so so and the bed was quite hard, though I am not overly picky. One thing to note is that no shops or resteraunts are open after 6 so you should stock up on groceries so you can cook a fulfilling dinner (I lived on circle K noodles). It’s also quite pricey at the places available and it’s a half hour bus ride or pricey tram to an ATM or super market. All in all it felt magical being in nature and it is very quiet at night.

Agoda did not inform us clearly that we need to be YHA member to stay in this hostel. It created some hassles for us. The actual hostel look very different from the photos in the website. It was quite badly maintained now. The lights outside can shine into our room at night making us very difficult to sleep.

Zeer goed”

It is a beautiful place in the heart of forest. The most fun part is lots of tents in different sizes in the garden,lots of families with children were staying in tents. There garden is spacious for kids to run around and play. The kitchen is huge. There are no shortage of pots&pans and table ware when large number of guests are staying at the same time. The only problem for me was I had to travel 45 minutes by coach to get to the nearest MTR and walk 15 minutes to get to bus terminus . The place is a tourist attraction There are large number of people waiting for coach and one have to wait 20 minutes for the next coach when coach is full. The same distance returning. The hostel is perfect for families with kids and people who are looking for a very quite place to stay. There is no sound of trafic not even sound of birds singing in trees. It was not the right choice for me I had to keep travelling outside the area for an event it cost me lots of taxi fares&standing waiting for coach.

Good but lack of facility”

Very close to Big Buddha and Po lin monastery but the location is in the middle of the forest. If u don't like camping it is not recommended. But if u like nature with fresh air it is recommended. No facility and not easy to find restaurant in the night.

It is a nice little hostel in the backwoods near to the Big Buddha. Though there is only about two minutes of hot water per shower, all the basic amenities are there. They do say you are required to join a hosteling network which Agoda doesn't enquire you to do before booking. But we made it clear that we were not willing to do that and no one where on our reservation did it say that so he let it go. Overall would stay I feel looking to spend a day or two at the bid Buddha or wisdom path.

The place is nice for camping style, close to nature but don't expect too much. ”

Pros: Cheaper place close to HK airport, near Ngong Pin Lantau Island Buddah place, close to nature and they have shared kitchen where you can cook and outdoor place where you can set fire to grill food. Tables outside are set up to where you can chill while eating. Cons: It's not that clean, we occupy a room since tents are fully occupied and we are the one who managed to put the bed cover and pillow cases. The room smell old and dusty so I need to pray perfume on the room to mask it. Overall it's a nice place for campers, stuff are nice and accomodating.

Not suggest for single person,Amazing hiking place ”

Hiking for sunrise would be a amazing place,but not convenient in traffic,by taxi from Tongyung station to here need about HK$180.

you need to be a member of the YHA to be able to stay here. that is an additonal 25 USD for this. ”

i want my money back tbh. the location is very far. the facilities were average. the staff were good
