Highly recommand!!!”
Great located. Near by the Izu-Kogen Station where can take bus or other lines. Also has some supermarket and kiosk around. Nice staff and host!!! They are very friendly and warm-hearted. The entire house is very clean and tidy. I'm really love this place. I will stay Hinodeya again!!!!
I really have no complaints ”
Tetsuya was wonderful. He picked up and drove me everywhere, any time. They were super accommodating when I asked to eat elsewhere because a child was building chair mountains beside me. The room is spacious, has AC, a million plugs, television, and unlimited towels.
Highly Recommend”
If you want to travel to the east side of Izu, this is the place you should stay. About location: 3 minutes walk to Izukogen Station which is a big station which you could take train to everywhere. About the house: Very traditional Japanese wooden Tatami house. The room and the house is kept very clean. Got all the facilities you need in the room: TV, air-con, fridge, locker and also tea. Public space is comfortable with free coffee and massage chair. Bath and toilet is clean too. It also have onsen in it. It really feels like home. About the neighbour: Very quiet and relaxing countryside place. Got local restaurant, drug stores and food market within 5-10 minutes walk. Recommend milk and fruit here. Very fresh and taste good. Drug store is very big and much less crowded than Tokyo. You can do shopping here. About the stay: The host is very kind to offer pick and send to the sightseeing spot and station. This is very helpful and convenient. You can also take bus at station.
World-class good service”
Services provided was excellent. The place was super neat, tidy and spacious. Yukata was provided with specific scandals for visitors' experience. The owner was so kind that he even offer us a few rides. The whole experience was unbelievable at such a attractive price. Definitely will stay again if we pay another visit to izukogen in the future.
Superb Value for money”
Location is 5-10 minutes walk from station. Location is opposite an izakaya which serves great ramen, korean food and live fish. 5 mins drive to nearby onsen which has an outdoor onsen with has superb sea and mountain view(Akazawa). The owner gave me a ride there. The owner was also super helpful in assisting with my needs, that was to find a dive guide on the day of check out. He also provided transport to the dive shop. Check in was smooth and payment on check out. Yukata and all amenities are provided. Room was perfect and cosy and was one of my best stays in Japan. Had a tub in the showering room but for those who want to visit a bigger onsen, they have discounts for a beautiful one nearby. All staffs were very friendly and helpful.
A charming little ryokan”
Stayed at Hinodeya for 3 nights (4-7 Mar 2015). At first glance, the facilities are a little old and dated, shared bathroom and toilets but the whole place is kept very clean. And the longer I stayed, the more I intereacted with the owners, the charm of this little ryokan deepened. Come to this ryokan if you desire warm attentive yet non-intrusive service. Tetsuya-san immediately delivered a humidifier to my room the moment he understood I had a bad cough. He is ever ready to spring into action to help out: be it explaining the train schedules or calling on my behalf to confirm a stained glass making appointment, or arranging for my luggage to be sent via courier to Tokyo. Noriko-obachan puts a lot of thought and heart into cooking all the meals - simple yet delicious home cooked food, sometimes served with a creative twist.. I ordered dinner for all 3 nights of my stay and was pleasantly rewarded, both in quality and quantity. Noriko-obachan is 69 years old this year and yet, she has picked up some simple English in order to better communicate with her guests :) Using Hinodeya/Izukogen as base, it was easy traveling northwards to Ito or southwards to Kawazu and Shimoda. One of the best thing about Hinodeya is that it is within walking distance to the Izukogen train station, with supermarkets nearby and a 100-yen shop next door. If you are arriving with heavy or big luggage, then it might be good to give the ryokan a call and ask them for pick up from the train station. Overall, it has been a delightful stay at Hinodeya and I am truly blessed that it turned out to be such a great choice.
A traditional onsen hotel”
Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. They provide us plenty of travel information. Next to a 100yen and Aeon shop, visitors can do shopping at night. Providing free parking, it help self drive visitors to save money and to reach remote tourist points nearby. The traditional breakfast is delicious and visitor can choose the serving time. However, the in-house onsen is quite small and sometimes very crowded.
Wonderful ryokan”
I only stayed for one night but Hinodeya was the highlight of my trip. The room comes with yukata rental, which makes for great photos. The traditional Japanese breakfast is delicious. The facilities are squeaky clean. Even though the bathrooms are shared between guests, I never encountered anyone else. It is nice to have the baths to myself. When it was time to leave the owner drove me to the train station. His English is not good but he does his best to communicate. I really appreciate his hospitality.
Perfect”
Very excellent experience. If you are gonna visit the spots nearby, this hotel is gonna be your best choice. The host is so kind, providing free drop-off and pick-up. Thank you so much!

Very nice!!!!
Best Japanese traditional family hotel”
The service quality is very good. Offers pick up service from train station, and driving to scenic spots. Dinners are extraordinarily delicate, in big portion and tasty. The host tried to accommodate every request. Hot tub is nice and tidy. Nice stay and I will definitely recommend this hotel with 10 stars!!! Must stay!!!
Great valued ”
Great hospitality. The host is super nice, driving us to popular spots like omuru Yama , and even escorts us to cross road with busy traffic . Room is comfortable and quiet. A nice experience in Izukogen.
Excellent Choice”
It is a very traditional tatami house. The house is very clean and there is in-house hot spring facility which surprise me a little bit. We had breakfast there and the food is fair much better than what we expect and the price is really good. The only handicap is there is no standalone bathroom for each gust room. It would be good if they can offer some rooms with standalone bath and toilet facility.
A gem”
I stayed one night, to attend a festival... and I wish I had stayed longer. This little ryokan was lovely and peaceful, and for a little extra they provided a beautiful breakfast. The ryokan was clean, simple, had great hospitality, and was excellent value. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Highly Recommended”
A very convenient location indeed with good restaurants and big supermarket nearby. The hotel manager gave very practical advices on our daily itinerary. We can communicate well in basic English. Good food and comfortable rooms in very reasonable price. Will highly recommend it to friends.
Very comfortable stay”
Really comfortable night at Izukogen Hinodeya Ryokan. Staff spoke good English and the whole place had a very relaxed and welcoming feeling. Good advice on where to go locally and the food was wonderful. Would highly recommend
Excellant place for family and backpacker”
It is great experence for our family stay in this place. We have a big tatami room so our little boy can have enough place to go around. Host also prepare the a great meal for dinner and breakfast, which we never forget the taste after we return our home. The next day, host take us to the seaside and show us around. After that, he also take our lugage to train station. If we get a change to visit Izu, we will come back again.
A wonderful ryokan”
What a wonderful ryokan - very authentic, pleasant, and comfortable. For the price, I expected only a basic place to sleep, and Hinodeya so much exceeded my expectations. It offers the full ryokan experience - a spacious traditional Japanese room with a futon bed and all furniture, real Japanese breakfast in a dining room with low tables, and even a small onsen in the hotel's bath. (There is also a much bigger public onsen, Izukogen-no-yu, only 5 minutes' walk from Hinodeya, also much recommended). The room was in fact much bigger than the tiny rooms in most Western-style business hotels in the big cities, including the high-end ones. The staff was very friendly and helpful - the owner drove me to the train station after check out, which I don't think has ever happened to me before in any other hotel. The location of the hotel is very convenient - about 10 minutes' walk from the Izukogen train station, making it a very good base for exploring the Izu peninsula. For example, the beautiful Shirahama beach can be reached in about an hour's train ride to Shimoda, followed by a 10 minutes' bus ride. The Jogasaki shore is only 1km away from the hotel, and can be recommended for its volcanic rocks and rugged beauty - perfect for hiking, especially if you have the time to cover the entire shore's length of 10km or so. WIth its steep slopes and volcanic origin, it reminded me a lot of the French Riviera or the Amalfi coast, only Izu is relatively much less developed. (Incidentally, I visited all three places in the month of May in different years, and in comparison, there were a lot fewer people in Izu than on the Mediterranean coast.) Still, with so many great restaurants offering fresh seafood, and so much natural beauty, Izu is one of the greatest vacation areas I have ever seen, and Hinodeya is the perfect place to stay during your visit there.
Good”
The staff is very nice and can speak English. He was willing to drive us to some sightseeing point. Moreover, after checking out, he drived us to train station. The room is large and clean. However, there is no non-smoking room, thus a strong cigarette smell in the room.
