“You get what you pay for ”

This place is definition of you get what you pay for. Normal hotels have a team of paid cleaning staff. This place has just one guy I think. And I got the impression there are only three staff who aren't even paid but work for free lodging at the hotel, hence why rooms are cheap. The rooms are large and spacious. Beds comfortable enough. Some people have complained about sheets being stained, but I found the bedding to be clean enough. I think it's just cos the sheets are all white and it's next to impossible to keep anything spotlessly white forever. The kitchen was revolting. I never cooked or ate anything in there since just walking in there made me lose my appetite. It really was filthy. Kitchen is on roof, and if door left open will get pigeons wandering in. The bathrooms and showers are unisex, so if youre female this may be more of an issue for you. its stupid of them not to designate separate male and female bathrooms. The toilet cubicles are tiny which is something i hate. The water temperature of showers keeps fluctuating from slightly too hot to too cold whenever someone else in the building used the hot water, so it was annoying taking a shower. Also did notice funny smell, possibly mold, permeating third floor. for what you pay its reasonable value for money. wont be impressed but can't be angry either. This place is shabby but not as filthy as the 1 star reviews make out. its like something youd find in a poorer less developed country, so if youre used to 1st world NZ standards will be dissappinted. If you're on a budget and looking for most affordable place this is for you. If you have money to spend then probably should go somewhere better.

    “a one night thing”

Location is great in centre of town and easy to get around. Single room w window was ok- stains on sheets but seemed clean- good mirrors. No bathroom on level 4 and on level 3 a lot of toilets were not working and showers did not look clean at all- smells throughout the hallways and building- as well as mold in places. When I arrived they tried to get a $50 deposit from me but stated I was leaving really early and suddenly it wasn't needed. Would recommend if you just need a place to dump your stuff eg. a concert night - wouldn't recommend it if you actually need to sleep and shower.

    “Hostel NOT Hotel”

I'll try and keep this short. My room didn't have a window, hadn't noticed this in the booking. Bed fills the room,no ventilation, fan supplied not adequate, bed linen clean and white, mattress and pillows stained, shower pressure and temp pot luck, decor and fittings very shabby, key card didn't let me access bar on level 4 or fire escape doors once I left my floor, level 5. Only camera on floor could see into my room through the over door window. If you can put up with the above then this place is in a perfect location, really cheap for any city cbd and a beautiful building on the outside just a shame its neglected on the inside but remember it's a HOSTEL NOT A HOTEL and defo NOT 3star.

“Dirty room, upgrade, good reception staff”

I ve booked a single room for 2 nights as I had a super long travel to NZ. Unfortunately housekeeping forgot to clean my room. So I surprised myself on opening the door. Reception staff and Manager had been keen to put me in a Room with ensuite Bathroom. The location is super central and the terrace on floor 7 has amazing view. Beside that, the place would need a renovation! Being a Backpacker, I travel usually on lower budget and wanted to meet up with other travelers (did not find any Backpacker in 2 days here-everybody stayed in their room or was out in the city), therefore decided to move in another cheaper and vibrant place.

“Great location, but that's about it.”

You couldn't get a better location. But the room itself wasn't great. The bathroom needed a very good clean. Showering wasn't much fun, it would go from boiling hot lava from the depths of hell to freezing cold waters from the arctic! You should definitely take ear plugs as it is extremely noisy. On the plus side, the bed was fairly comfortable and the staff were friendly.
