Property announcements

As we are located in the heart of Queenstown one side of our property backs onto a popular social street (Searle Lane). Due to this, we do experience noise from local bars, especially over the weekend so please contact us directly if you are a lighter sleeper and we will do our best to allocate you to a room on the Church Street side of our property which is quieter.

We also have free ear plugs available at our 24 hour reception if required.

“Not just a hostel! Private rooms are like a good hotel!”

We are a retired couple, perhaps rather unusual guests here but we wanted a very central location and used to do a lot of Youth Hostel stays many years ago. So we chose the "Private - King - Ensuite - Shared Balcony" and, reading other not very encouraging reviews, didn't expect a particularly wonderful experience... So were amazed and delighted by the lovely room, luxury furnishings worthy of any hotel, and very little noise inside the room, and a delightful view from the balcony -night and day! We agreed it was the best hostel we'd ever stayed in, and would highly recommend this!

    “Good”

Lock system is good since doors can be unlocked through app lol. WiFi is good on certain spots, but in my room it's intermittent. I had private bathroom and everyday, it gets vacuumed and toilet and shower are cleaned. Common area is big and clean and there's a fire place which is great for relaxing and reading, since it was really chilly when I got there. You can cook there. There are lots of groceries from guests but they're all pretty organized in bags, so I guess no issues there. Staff is also kind and accommodating. Plus, hostel is located in near the lake and near almost all the meet up points of tours. Thanks!

    “Very good”

This hostel seems a bit dated now, compared to the photos. Things are falling apart. Not too much of a bother and understand that it’s in an industry which has suffered a lot recently, Rooms ok. Beds fairly comfortable. Quietness of room always depends on other guests, but the hostel at least does not allow alcohol on the premises which I think is good. Kitchen a bit of a mess and hard to use at peak times. Also food storage is a bit gross, fridges overflowing, bags of food hung on clothes hooks and more just on the floor. Red head English girl on reception was the most engaging, friendly, and helpful staff member. She just seemed to always be on the ball and getting things done - an asset for the hostel for sure! ;) Overall, if you can get a good price then it’s worth a stay here. Fairly chill. But if you’re a light sleeper, bring some earplugs.

Kia ora James, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. As we are located in the centre of Queenstown we do experience noise from the bars and restaurants on the Searle Lane side of our property. Queenstown is a popular social town and our location is great for being amongst the vibrant nightlife but if you are a light sleeper we do recommend requesting a quiet room on our Church Street side of the property which we will always do our best to accommodate. We do our best to be as transparent as possible and have added this onto our listing so customers are aware prior to booking. We have taken your other feedback onboard and have made many other improvements and we hope you stay with us again in the future. All the best for your future travels, The Nomads Queenstown Team

    “Great Deal”

Overall a good deal in the heart of Queenstown City Centre with this price. Less than a minute walking distance to the best view in earth. Less than 10 mins walks to world best food Fergburger, Luxury brand Louis Vuitton, also 24hr convenient store just around the corner, 24hr McD. Less than 10 minutes walk to the TSS Earnslaw, born same year as Titanic. So this is definitely best location of all. The only thing is the cleanliness, I would say the toilet sink can be bigger. That's all I will complain about. After all is a great choice for a budget solo traveller. You don't get 100 perfect if you are on Budget.

“Nice place to stay for a few days”

More expensive than other places I've stayed, but I think Queenstown is to blame. Everything seemed more expensive there. There is a sauna you can use at no extra cost. It was very nice to pop in there for a bit when the weather had me chilled to the bone. There is also a movie theater room with a projector and seemingly endless movie choices on DVD. The lounge area is cozy. There is a fireplace on 24/7 that you can warm up next to. The kitchen is large (though seemingly not large enough for the amount of people cooking each night) and very well equipped. They do close it at night though, and the staff get upset if you're even a minute late to wash your dirty dishes. They also utilize an app you can download on your phone for your room key. Or you can punch in a code on your door each time. It's a dry hostel but you still get drunk people coming back from the bars. On my first night, there were some very loud people outside my room.

Kia Ora Jonathan! Thank you for your detailed feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed the sauna, movie room, and cozy lounge with the fireplace—those are great ways to unwind after a day out in Queenstown. We understand that the kitchen can get busy during peak times, and we appreciate your thoughts on that. Our staff is doing their best to keep it clean, also before closing. Regarding noise from guests, we strive to maintain a peaceful environment and will reinforce our policies with everyone. We hope you'll consider staying with us again for a more relaxing visit!
