Best of all, it was a few minutes walk to the beach and a few minutes drive to Crown Street, with the free city bus stopping just down the street.

Good ol' hotel”
I'm old enough to remember when the Normandie was one of the leading hotels in Wollongong. OK, hotels have moved on as has Wollongong. Still, with an old building and not the best situation in the north 'Gong, the current management are working hard to keep their standards up. I was visiting friends so did not want the hotel to "entertain" me; I just wanted a place to sleep and shower. This hotel did that very satisfactorily & the room was not quite as cramped as one gets in modern budget hotels. It was also excellent value for money.
Centrally located old world charm”
My partner and I stayed at The Normandie over the December holidays. As a business traveller accustomed to 5-star properties, I found The Normandie utterly charming and a refreshing change from the generic, impersonal cookie-cutter hotel room. The Normandie had a lovely old-world charm about it, reminiscent of the old English B&Bs of my youth. Our room was a comfortable size, bright and sunny with all the usual amenities. Best of all, it was a few minutes walk to the beach and a few minutes drive to Crown Street, with the free city bus stopping just down the street. The hosts were a delightful couple that added to the warmth and appeal of the property - they were always ready to assist, offer advice or just have a friendly chat about the neighbourhood. All in all, we had a lovely time and though our days were mostly spent exploring Wollongong and the surrounding neighbourhoods, The Normandie was incredibly good value for money and a pleasure to come home to in the evenings.
Very, very nice”
We had a lovely stay at the Normandie. The room was very large, with a spacious bathroom that had a wonderful shower. Everything was clean and the management and staff were friendly and helpful. it was a hot and sticky weekend, but the rooms had ceiling fans, air conditioning and windows that opened on to a balcony, to make us very cool and comfortable. Ingrida serves a whopping, good breakfast. The restaurant was closed for evening meals in January but the menu made us want to come back to try dinner. The only tiny negative is there is no elevator. The stairs are not hard to manage, and the manager helped us take our suitcase up.
Exceptional”
Wanted somewhere cheap, clean and central. Normandie ticked all the boxes. Bed was satisfactory. No road noise. I'll stay again.
Relaxed, easy, comfortable.”
The Normandie is an older hotel but well maintained, very clean and centrally located.
Normandie a bit past its prime”
The Normandie is very dated and tired. There are no lifts and the stair access to rooms is narrow, tight and steep. Not suitable for anyone with a movement disability. The motel was noisy from both traffic and people walking past and calling out late at night and early morning. The beds were uncomfortable. The two bedroom suite required our older children to walk through the main bed room to get to the bathroom / toilet. The car park is off-street and adequate for our needs. It is uncovered and not extensive in size.
Great location! ”
The hotel was very old and the room was very small. With walking distance to the Gong North beach. Hotel staff were very friendly. Spacious bathroom.
Claustrophobic room”
The small double room is absolutely tiny. It just about fits two small people in the bed (with your feet hanging over the edge). The mattress was very saggy and uncomfortable. The staff weren't particularly friendly when we checked in and the hotel is extremely run down and musty. The shower and fridge were good and it's in a great location if you're doing the Wollongong triathlon. Thought it was very expensive $140 for what you get (a box room). I wouldn't stay again out of choice.
Excellent location close to the beach”
This hotel is perfectly located with a short walking distance to the beach. Also it is close to the city center. The room was quite nice and rather big. The personal was nice and helpful. The only negative thing to say was that the internet connection was really lousy. It only worked at certain places in the room!
Reasonable accommodation but great location”
The hotel is quite dated. There is no lift, and the walls are quite thin so we could hear other guests movements. The location is great, the rooms are clean and the price is reasonable. We didn't eat at the restaurant so I can't comment on that. Overall a pleasant stopover.
Good”
Price wise and location are good. Check in was a problem as we had to leave for a wedding at 2pm. I was given the option at booking of letting them know what time we were arriving only to find out we would have to wait till two. Fortunately they managed to have a room ready for us a little earlier. The room was very small and tired.
Great location but small room”
the chef was away so the restaurant was closed on the day we went. the price was reasonably given it was close to the beach and did not have the perfect view. the staff there was friendly and gave directions to the nearest eatery. the motel was located close to the beach which provided a relaxing getaway.
Faulty Towers”
This place should be 1 star not 3 stars. It’s like a back packer hostel. The location is good but the whole building inside & out is old, tired & needs a major renovation. You could not adjust the shower & it was either burning hot or freezing cold. The managers were not very friendly or welcoming. After dinner Saturday night we could not get into the building after repeated attempts & the manager was not happy being disturbed to let us in. They then did nothing to stop the noisy guests who arrived at 3am & started loudly banging doors & partying till the sun came up. Would NEVER stay there again. It was like staying in Faulty towers. Shameful for Wollongong.
Service with a smile.”
typical hotel. rooms comfortable with small fridge, but no microwave, food preparation etc. i prefer these days to have a kitchenette. okay if you plan to eat out all the time. the restaurant menu looked quite good. about 15 mins walk from cbd.
Great Location but small rooms”
I stayed for a night there. Location was great: near to public transports like train and buses, and less than 5 mins away from the beach. Receptionists were friendly enough. Cons: The room and aisle connecting each room were very small and creaky. Overall, it may suit solo travelers who come back to hotel only to sleep but mind sharing the room or other facilities like the backpacker hostels etc.
Not worth spending”
If there are other available hotels during our stay we won't stay here in Normandie.
Great place ”
Great place to stay overnight on our way to Sydney. Only negative is that their is a dragons supporter working there 😊
Small rooms for the price”
The motel room was small and the bed was small. Came to visit my daughter at Uni but she had to stay in the dorm because the room was too small for us both to stay. The description on the Internet did not give enough information for a USA traveler to know what to reserve. It had a lot of stairs so don't bring big bags. Limited parking, we had continental breakfast and it was adequate. The staff was nice although a bit difficult to understand, had a Eastern European accent
Nice location in Wollongong North”
Good position, clean rooms (although very small) and friendly staff. We were only looking for a bed for the night and this was perfect.
Good”
Booked a 2 double beds room for 4 persons but I got a 1 double bed and 2 single beds room at the end. Poor pest control, woke up in the next morning and got shocked to see a cockroach moving accross my sleeping husband's pillow and blanket, I quickly wake the rest of them up we have a quick preparation and left the room early. Overall staff is friendly.
