North District hotels & places to stay

This is a well-decorated budget/business hotel, located at the edge of Taichung’s best kept local shopping secret: Yizhong St. Market and the massive Zhongyou Dept. Store. It’s about a 30 minute walk from the bus/train station in the city center, from which one can access quick transportation to all parts of the city. There are far more budget hostels and hotels in that area, however, with that area being seemingly more shady and uncapped. The hotel itself is extremely clean and the breakfast provided is more than ample, considering the price. Parking, if not included, is a staggering NT$300 a day, which seems unreasonably high for local standards. However, being in such a busy district, street parking is extremely hard to find during non-weekdays, and the parking lots will add up.

Location is good and close to Fengjia night market and Taichung station, but same name hotel "Inhouse hotel" is very close, so it cause taxi driver's confusion. I recommend to change Chinse hotel name. Or it can keep cause big confusion. Workers are very kind and profession. They arranged taxi service from hotel to airport and it is cheap and convenient. However, hotel restaurant is not good and small. Buffet is small and cause inconvenience. Swimming pool is only open in the morning and night time. It is not allowed to use pool during afternoon time, so it makes us embarrassed. I will find another hotel when I visit Taichung again.

Certainly one of the better hotels I've came across for this price range. I had initially pondered on whether to stay in the Fengjia District or Yizhong District. Ended up picking Lai Lai because of the good reviews and I did not regret my decision. The check in process probably took about 2 minutes which was pretty quick. We were given a free upgrade from Premier Double to their Executive Suite The room was spacious, clean and well kept, new had no problems walking barefooted. The hotel is roughly a 3 minute walking distance to Yi Zhong Shopping Street and a further 10 minute walk to Chungyou Shopping Centre. The lady at the counter was more than willing to help when we asked for directions and provided me with a map and also a name card of the hotel showing their address. The cab from the hotel to Fengjia costs roughly NT$250 and a 20 minute drive. There is a commercial gym, World Gym which the staff said opens at 0800 hrs where hotel patrons can use. We did not have the time to check it out though. Breakfast was nothing fantastic, although there was a variety of food available, mainly toasts, porridge, buns on a buffet spread. The check-out process was simple and took us only 1 minute. The counter staff readily enquired if we need to leave our luggage at the hotel or if we need directions or help to our next destination. One of the staff assisted us to flag down a cab while we waited at the lobby, and another staff helped us with the loading of our luggage onto the cab, clearly indicating to the driver where we were headed to. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice comfortable hotel, great service and a good location to satisfy your shopping needs. Will definitely be back should I visit Taichung again.

We booked the Plaza International with good expectations. We arrived to find that it is being named H--One. Financially the hotel is probably doing OK due to tour groups. The staff was courteous and seemed to be making a good effort. The fault is not theirs, but the way the place is being run. There were numerous inconveniences and disappointments. For instance, the facility description cards in the room is out-of-date. No gym facilities on the 6th floor. I suspect that it has relocated to the spa on the rooftop, if that is still there. The air conditioner was set on turbo-cold, and even setting it at the warmest did not make a difference. The bed quilt was smaller than the surface of the bed. The breakfast restaurant had inadequate toasters, coffee makers, and dishes (glasses, bowls, etc.) available for the crowd. Management knew how many people their would be serving, but did not plan well and did not set things up so that the staff could serve well.

Stayed at the family Quart room, we have two families and each book one room. The size is jucst nice, not too big but cozy. The only set back is the bathroom which is located on the ground level is not fully covered at the top and the glass door is jsut slightly frosted. It may be perfect for a couple but for family with kids or friends, it is very inconvenient it is exposed. When someone is walking up the stairs to upper level, the bathroom is in full view. Other than that, location is good, walking distance to shops and restaurant and to Yizhong market. Overall still a nice and cozy place. But do note the amenities are limited

This hotel is absolutely fantastic, very convenient and the best value for money in town. We had a charming and very clean room, with a huge bathroom, a comfy bed and even a small buffet breakfast (with Taiwanese style vegetables, eggs, and meat, and a small western choice of breads, peanut butter, fruits and salads). Just note that the very smiling staff doesn't speak a word of English, and that coming in with your agoda reservation number would help the check-in process.

stayed for about 6 nights at this hotel with my wife and in-laws in two double deluxe rooms. the rooms were generally well kept and although there were no complimentary bottled waters, there was a standard office dispenser water in the two rooms that we stayed in with hot/cold/normal water temperature for us to choose from. the beds were comfortable and size of the room and bath room was spacious. food in the hotel was mediocre, we only took the breakfast provided nothing much to rave about. their cafe was empty most of the time as just a few minutes worth of walking there are lots of local cuisines to fill the hungry stomachs. there is no laundry service provided but they provide one washing machine and dryer for the guest to use for free. laundry powder can be obtained from the front desk.

This is Homestay not hotel. You need inform host what time you will be there. Host will provide correct address. The Homestay located at yimin yizhong shopping district. There are no lift and the Homestay at 2nd floor. The staff help us to bring the big luggage to the room when check in. Just check out need bring yourself. The room very small. Area very tight after put in our 4 persons luggage. Facilities is okay especially got provided hair dryer and body shampoo. Outside have water purifier.

Stay was a pleasant one, however hotel room was not as big as what we expected based on the photos provided by agoda. Surrounding was quiet and the hotel is one of the biggest and affordable hotel standing in the heart of Taichung. Will advise travelers to rent vehicle if they visit Taichung again, because traveling distance from attraction place to another is relatively much further than in other cities like Taipei or Kaohsiung.

I paid a good price for three nights at this hotel, the hotel is a bit old and has a small smell, but it isn’t very significant. I was a little worried when I first arrived in my room, there was a massive crack in my window, the fridge looks very questionable and there were live electrical cords visible by the bedside table which I avoided during my stay. The bathroom isnterribly designed and the entire thing was drenched after I showered. I would say, if you are on a budget and willing to deal with such things than this place is fine, but I wouldn’t really recommend. I think I would stay somewhere else next time. The staff were very accommodating though and I did get a free room upgrade - I do however speak chinese. I didn’t use any other facilities at the hotel.

The hotel is easy to find, near Bus Stop and just about 10 minutes to Feng Jia Night Market by bus. My room is quite comfortable. The interior is a bit old design but ok for the cleanliness. Facilities of the hotel is quite complete ( washing machine and dryer (for free), lift, free refill water dispenser, refrigerator and hair dryer. The breakfast is not that delicious though. I rather book the room without breakfast.

Great hotel. Clean and convenient location. Staff were helpful. The car park is a short walk away so was a little difficult to find. So if you park in the bowling centre car park that is the hotels car park. They will give you a token. But be aware that it's only valid for your stay so if you stay longer in the car park then you are responsible for the fee. It was about 20 per hour I think. (charged me $90).

Our first night in Taiwan. This place cannot be found without the owner bringing you in so you'll have to make a phone call once you've reached the street(Owner is friendly, no worries, but we were conversing in Mandarin, not sure about other languages, basic English should be fine). You would need to take a lift up and few steps of stairs before reaching the outer door where multiple units are located (Unique Design). The unit that we're renting is very compact and little space to move around, there are TV provided. We were actually expecting that there would be a night market (something like mini Shih-lin) market below the hostel, but it was far from expected. Overall an okay stay.
