Disappointment”
Thoroughly dissatisfied with the Ella Gap Hotel. Great location, but rude reception staff, filthy bathroom (felt unclean having a shower). The receptionist was incredibly rude to our Sri Lankan driver. He said about a week after we left that he felt like 'baggage', not human in the receptionist being rude to him. The only thing we enjoyed was 5th he breakfast - great, with the breakfast restaurant staff being enthusiastic and courteous.

Past, present and no future”
The Internet/tv in the room works always, the pool is great and the hotel has a great location.
This was a terrible stay, the food was almost non edible, getting anything done from the staff was a chore and young screaming children were allowed to run free early in the morning and apparently most of the day These were not Sri Lankan children, but European and should have been approached. Maybe there is new management.

Issue to fix”
Centrally located, with potential,
The hotel looks fresh and modern from the outside and as you go through the friendly check-in process. A closer look reveals many finishing details of the building not completed. The room seemed fine when we walked in and was a generous size. The problems soon start to appear though. There was no aircon (although all rooms were advertised with A/C), the garden view from the balcony was actually over an old building with a rusted iron roof and a local rubbish tip, the thin curtains were OK for privacy but blocked out no light, and the room had open vents to the corridor which allowed any noise from other guests to intrude at full volume. The TV did not work and there was no Wi-fi in the room. The Wi-fi from the lobby was intermittent and slow. To top it off, there was no hot water for a shower by 07:30 in the morning. It had all been used by a few guests making an early and noisy departure. The hotel needs to fix its many problems before it will prove value for money and has the potential to be a good option in the middle of Ella. However, as it currently stands it would rate as a poor value 2 star hotel.

Location is good, friendly welcoming guy at reception, no third thing
Room wasn't clean, drains were block, breakfast is poor and the place is noises and wifi poor. Pity as the location of the part finished hotel is good and it had the potential to be good but it's very poorly managed and maintained.

Location. We travelled by train and it's walking distance from the train station. 2. Hotel is located in the center of all attractions in Ella.

Very poor standard of finish”
Great location for walks in hills, good access to train & attentive staff
Hotel was adequate for needs if a little overpriced for overall standard of build and finish. Manager very overbearing with staff who were attentive although a little slow. Could be much better if the poor construction was finished and space used better.

great hotel in a great place”
in town centre, motorbike hire or tut tut hire close by food & bars walking distance
had a great stay at Ella gap hotel we chose to hire a motor scooter for 3 days to cover our stay got lost a few time but saw the most amazing scenes this was the high light off our trip waterfalls breath taking scenery, we were going to Liptons seat & took to wrong turn the local doctor stopped put us on the right road, then we took the train from Ella to Colombo in the observation car it was amazing would recommend Ella & Ella gap hotel

desapointed !”
nothing great
very disapointing. at first sightthe hotel looks brand new and apparently we were the only customer during the 3 nights. Receptionist had a really poor english and was barely able to understand us... arriving at the room everything looked ok....looking more into details we realised that half of the towel/bathroom items were missing... no worries this got fixed easily. arriving at the pool side we realised that it has obviously not been cleaned for some time.... not really happy since the pool was one of the reason i choosed to book this hotel. we came back to the room after a long day out to realised that the room hasn t been cleaned. apparently we had to ask at reception to have the room cleaned... but no one told us that before we complained. coming back after dinner at 10h30pm the hotel was closed ! and we were "locked" outside !

The city itself is small. The hotel is centrally located. The room was great with a great bed and bathroom. However, it was overpriced.
