Oakhostel Zen, Uguisudani was THE BEST stay for me in Tokyo! I really enjoyed my stay there! <3”

I'm Azron from Malaysia. Been there with my wife for 6D5N (25-30Nov2018) in room 311 - semi double room. I found that Oakhostel Zen is valur for money. I love the location since it is not far from Uguisudani Train Station and near to some convenience stores which make it easier for me to buy things if needed. The hostel is very clean and I feel very comfortable during my stay. The staffs are fluent in English which make the communication becomes more easier between customers and staffs. The facilities there are quite good. I will definitely recommend this stay to my family and friends. Thank you Oakhostel Zen - Uguisudani. Keep up the good work and service. Hope that we will meet again later. Thank you from Malaysia. Arigato Gozaimasu!

Exceeded expectations!”

For a budget hostel, Oakhostel Zen really exceeded expectations! I am usually too lazy to be bothered to write reviews online, unless they are exceptionally horrible or exceptionally fantastic. In this case, I must say my stay was extremely pleasant and exceeded my expectations! Plenty of amenities and ample shower/toilet space so there's no need to queue for bathrooms. Also the entire area, especially the bathrooms, is kept very clean (and I am a clean-freak, so you know for sure it is CLEAN when I say it is). the common dining area is also spacious and homely. perfect for chilling with friends. for such good service, it is definitely worth my money. will definitely return here!

My Most Visited Hostel as a Frequent Tokyo Traveller (Almost perfect 5 stars)”

I really really wish I could give it a full 5 stars, since everything was convenient for me especially their spacey room in which the mixed dormitory that I stayed in fitted lots of my luggage. The lounge is nice, kitchen is complete with everything you need. Every staffs were super nice, shout out for Ayano especially. BUT, there is one male staff with a long hair who is rude and treated customer in a bad manner and gave a bad service since the first time I arrived, first I thought he was just having a bad day at the moment, but turned out everytime he was on duty that was just his plain attitude. So yeah, I might reconsider my next visit whether Oakhostel Zen or somewhere else.

Hostel name should be changed as "World of Facilities"!”

Located in Ueno, one of the best areas to stay for travellers. There are many options around to explore in short time like Ueno Park hosting many national and art museums, natural sources and even a zoo. We were so lucky that we were able to see an exhibition to see the paintings of Van Gogh, Monet, Modigliani, Picasso. Munch and a fish contest. Hostel is neighbour of convenience stores Family Mart and 7-Eleven and also very close to metro station to stroll in the city. First of all we would like to thank all the staff for being helpful and cheerful from check-in to check-out time. Front desk personnels are all friendly. House keepers cleaned our semi-double room every day and gave us very traditional Japanese garment Kimono to wear in the room. Room is clean enough and has main stuff you may need such as fridge, hair dryer, tv., towels etc. You can also ask for or rent other goods. Hostel also offers a very well equipped shared kitchen for the guests. You can get your stuff and cook as long as you follow the rules for others’ convenience. It is also possible to grab complimentary coffee or tea from the kitchen. Hostel has even a vending machine to get an cold beverage in the lobby. The lobby is traditionlly designed charming you to have a sit and has two computers for public use. You can find leaflets and useful files prepared by management giving ideas what to do and what to eat in Tokyo. In general, hostel looks clean, convenient and safe.

Value for money, exceed expectation”

Stayed at the family room at the 3rd floor, although no lift, still manageable. Room is so big and clean and bed is comfortable. Price is very cheap at $116 per night. We also use the shared kitchen which is clean. Staff are friendly. Need to climb a flight of stairs from train station and walk about 5 to 10 min to reach. Is at the main line just one station after ueno. We took a bus from hotel to the asakusa temple. Will stay here again if we visit tokyo again.

Fantastic hostel, highly recommended”

Brand new, great staff, and value for money

This fantastic hostel is really like a small hotel. It is very new, extremely clean, and the rooms are spacious by Japanese standards. The staff are friendly and helpful and the location just 3 minutes walk to a JR station is great. We had booked in one of the Khaosan hostels but it was so awful we left after one night and moved to Oakhostel. We loved it and extended our stay to stay there for 8 days. I highly recommend this hostel.

The best hostel in Tokyo”

Location, cleanliness, excellent customer service

This is probably the most value for money hostel in Tokyo. The staff are friendly and know how to handle customer's needs despite the lack of manpower, especially during peak hours. The hostel is kept clean all the time. Wifi is fast and reliable. The location is perfect as it is close to Yamanote line (Uguisudani station), hence, no line transfer if you prefer going around Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku and Ueno. The only thing they need to improve is their hot shower which is hard to blend the hot and cold water, and at times the water temperature was fluctuating. Other than that, this hostel is almost perfect and would love to stay here again!

I've stayed at several Guest Houses throughout Tokyo and while they were all very nice, Oak Zen was above and beyond. How you ask? The tiny details. Vending machines with Strong Zero in the lobby. Room cleaning daily (what?!) -- and very close to JR line. Will 100% stay here again.

Great option to stay in Tokyo! Very close to a JR train station. The staff was helpful. You can rent a towel for 100 yen for your whole stay, and if you want to change the towel you'll have to pay the fee again. In the 6 nights I stayed there not even once they changed my bed sheets even though they will change the sheets in the other beds of the dormitory, I found it odd. Overall, it's a good place to stay. There are a lot of convinience stores and restaurants nerby. Also Ueno park is a short walk away.

Pleasant experience staying here”

When we first book the room, we know that there's not many other hostels offers the family room. This hostel however, offers a family room with attached bathroom and toilet at a very good price. Not only that, the room was quite wide and spacious. The location was also good, just a walk away from Uguisudani Station (1 stop from Nippori station), where you can get on the Yamanote line that goes practically every famous tourist places in Tokyo. There are loads of supermarket, convenience stores, and cheap restaurants nearby, so you will never have to worry about food. They also have communal kitchen that opens 24 hours, so you can cook whatever you like there. Although there are no elevator inside the building, the staff will gladly help you carry your suitcases upstairs to your room. All in all, a very recommended place to stay!

Best hostel I stayed in Tokyo”

It's a really really nice hostel. Rooms are clean, bathrooms have amenities, free use of hairdryer and it has a beautiful lobby. Only con is you would have to walk a few mins from the nearest station and there are only a few attractions in Ueno as compared to other parts of Tokyo. But if you have a JR pass, that wouldn't be a problem.

Good for light travellers”

The room is very spacious and they have a nice comfy bed, they also have great amenities, better than most hostels around Tokyo like slippers, mini refrigerator, bath tub, desk, clothes rack, and even a fabric deodorizer. The staff is also friendly and nice and can communicate in English very well. The only thing that bothered us a bit is that the picture was a bit misleading for the room we booked which was the double room. We initially booked it because of the big window and we picked that over the private toilet that the other one is offering (Semi-double) but in reality, not every double room has that big window and we ended up in a room with the same look as the semi-double but with a shared bathroom. So maybe we could've just gotten the semi-double room instead. other than that, it was a nice stay and I would still recommend this hostel if you're around Tokyo.

Second Time with Oakhostel, Will Choose Them Again”

Cleanliness, Spaciousness and Staff

My second time at Oakhostel Zen was great. I choose the female 16-bed dorm, compared to the 10-bed from my first time and was pleasantly surprised at how much space there was available for each of the guest despite having to contain 16 females. The communal kitchen was adequately equipped with utensils for guests and the lobby was nice as well. The WiFi network was quite unstable at the 16-bed female dorm, as compared to my previous experience in the 10-bed dorm, maybe because too many people were using it all at the same time. The network though unstable posed no major problems. Will opt for Oakhostel again in Tokyo when I'm on a considerable budget.
