Quiet and cosy in the middle of action”
I stayed 3 nights at Ocean @ Livingstones Hotel on my way back to Canada. During check in I was welcomed in a very personal and friendly way by the French owner, an attitude that lasted during my entire stay. My room was generously sized, overlooking the beautiful pool area where I also spent some time. The staff was generally very helpful and friendly. This hotel is located at Soi 33 off Sukhumvit road in the middle of action. Yet my room was very quite and I was never bothered by any noise. If you prefer cosiness and friendliness to the more upscale and pricy hotels close by this is a very good choice. I will definitely come back.
The best hotel in Bangkok”
Livingstones is by far my favourite hotel...it is centrally positioned for shopping, sightseeing and there is even a park you can run and rent a rowing boat..all this right in the middle of bangkok The staff are friendly and helpful and the bar great fun...just don't get invoved in a poolgame for loser buys the bar beers !!!
Superb hotel”
The staff at the ocean are most likely the nicest people you will ever meet. They will go out of there way to accommodate you and always have a smile on there face. I felt at home here and throughout my 30 day stay in Thailand, I kept coming back. I found the rooms clean, very comfortable and reasonably priced for sukhumvit. I want to thank the manager who is a lovely guy and all the staff. P.s free drinks served from 3-4 pm (added bonus) :)
a breath of fresh air in bangkok”
Livingstones Hotel is my first choice hotel as I pass through Babgkok. Although the traffic makes the trip from the airport rather painful it is all worth it when you arrive. A friendly welcome from Guido and staff..a beer around the pool....a game of pool in the noisy and exhuberant Sports Bar..and then dinner outside by the pool.
Great location in the middle of the city.”
This has been my hotel of choice in Bangkok for 5 years.I have stayed in many hotels around the world and find this hotel to be one of the top three i have stayed at. It is not a Hilton by any means but the management and staff go above and beyond to make you feel as if you are part of a big family. The rooms are very big and the beds are very comfortable. The restaurant which surrounds a very nice swimming pool has an excellent choice and quality of both Thai and Western foods. The manager is always walking around the restaurant checking to make sure your dining experience is top quality. The owner is always available for questions about the areas of Bangkok that you might be interested in. The hotel is situated on Soi 33 and is within easy walking distance to a bank for money exchange and the Phrom Phong Skytrain station which provides access to a major portion of the city and is very user friendly. Top notch.
An Oasis in a Sea of Bedlam”
although livingstones is a little hard to find, once there it is like being in an oasis far away from the hustle and bustle of bangkok. from the cheerful welcome, to the clean appointed rooms, the breakfast by the pool all go to make a happy relief from everyday bangkok life.
Just what I needed”
As noted in other reviews, the hotel has seen better days. My experience with the facilities was mixed. The bad: The bathroom floor had multiple levels to it which are difficult to see. It tripped me twice... The worst problem I had was that the air conditioning is undersized. It was very hot and humid in Bangkok the day I came (I hadn't sweated like that in years!), and the A/C couldn't keep up. I would suggest that they also consider adding some reclining chairs to the rooms - there was plenty of extra space in my "Executive Room." There is definitely room for a couple of comfortable chairs and a small table to facilitate take-out and watching TV. Finally, the TV service was not that good. Most of the channels were off the air, and a couple were "scrambled." The only English language channel I was able to watch was NHKWorld. I usually call home when I arrive somewhere, but they don't allow international calls from the hotel rooms. The good: The staff was friendly and accommodating. The bed was very comfortable. I slept quite well. I did enjoy the Jacuzzi in my room, even though at 6'2", I didn't really fit. The rating is definitely higher because the staff was extremely accommodating and they are definitely doing the best they can. Hopefully as business improves for them, they'll have more money to do some upgrading. I've read some older reviews under the older management. His responses reminded me of Basil Fawlty... The new owner is doing a good job making improvements. The biggest suggestion I have for them is to add a lit sign at the end of their driveway indicating that the entrance is to the right. When I arrived after 1AM, I recognized the huge "elephant tusks" at the driveway, but with no signage and no activity, I wasn't sure I was at the right place - or if they were still open for business. They should also have a sign out on the street. Even some of the locals didn't know where the place is when I asked.
Great Pool, Good Location, Decent Room”
We stayed at this hotel for one night in Bangkok. The pool seemed to be the highlight as it is known for its swanky pool parties. I bought a Heineken at the bar and it was 180baht which I found way overpriced but hey it's Bangkok. Location was good but a small bit of a walk to the main area in Sukhumvit. The bed was extremely comfortable but the sheets had yellow stains on them which wasn't particularly appealing. Wooden floor was warped in places so had to be careful as to not trip and splinter foot but not really a big deal. I feel like you could find better hotels for similar prices but is great for the atmosphere and cool pool.
Livingstone Would Love This Lodge”
Livingstone’s Lodge is a welcome refuge from the hectic pace of Bangkok. Located on Soi 33, Livingstone’s is a small low rise hotel located within walking distance to the BTS and the action located along Sukhumvit. The rooms are nicely equipped and maintained. The breakfast (not a buffet) is available into the early afternoon for late risers. The free and strong wi-fi signal was a welcome change after staying at other hotels. The dining area outside provides delicious meals at night. The staff are friendly and accommodating to make your stay as pleasurable as possible.
Great and different place, helpful staff”
Great different hotel, A small hunting lodge in the centre of Bangkok. The rooms are quiet and well appointed with nice bathrooms. The staff re always friendly and the place has a relaxed homely atmosphere. The location of the hotel just off Sukhumvit means that you are close to everything that you need.
disappointing”
My stay at the ocean@ Livingstones hotel was disappointing. The air conditioners in the rooms are too small they dont cool the room down. The A/C was set at 16degrees Celsius and the temperature in my first room after running all afternoon and all night in the morning was 27degree's( A/C temp reading)which for me was uncomfortable to sleep. the staff then swapped me to another room. The setting on the A/C was set at 16degree's and the temp got down to 23degrees after all day all night and the next day and night. But this was comfortable! The hotel had a night club under my room which resonated through my room until they finished. which was around midnight. I believe the owners are more interested in Parties than the guest's comfort as there was something happening at night and in the afternoon. If you wish to have a Reasonable priced hotel centrally located in BKK and are not worried about sleeping then this would suit you, other wise I can not recommend this hotel. For me it did not suit my requirements
Excellent”
The staff are excellent. They were constantly there to help with anything i needed although anything I could think of was already provided. The downstairs restaurant has an excellent selection of both Thai and Western dishes and has an excellent atmosphere as you can sit poolside to enjoy your meal. The rooms were meticulous which is very important for someone like myself and i was very impressed with the devotion of the staff. Located in the middle of it all I could walk to countless Restaurants, Bars, Shopping and anything else that Bangkok has to offer. However when the craziness of the city had become too much I would just relax by the pool and forget i was in the middle of the city. The sports bar offers Football Matches everynight and a billiard table which i played and lost several times but definetly enjoyed my time. I would highly recommend this to any travellers looking for a nice hotel in the middle of the city close to everything including the MTS and Metro lines as they are literally 2 blocks away. I will be returning very soon.
Good hotel with helpful staff”
Good place to stay; close to eveything. I particularly enjoyed the swimming pool; also close to public park, and emporium shopping centre. There is a very good cinema at the emporium. Also a foodcourt with very competitive prices. Livingstones offers a quiet tranquil setting amongst the hustle and bustle of the busy city outside that is Bangkok!
A little gem”
This hotel is little gem right in the heart of Bangkok and out of character with the surrounding high rise buildings. It is located very well for night life and a sky train station for easy access to other areas of Bangkok. The staff are very friendly and there is a good restaurant and bar on site. The swimming pool is clean although there are no sunbeds around it - just tables and chairs. Istayed in a junior suite which was very spacious but only sparsley furnished (for example no sofa or comfotable chairs)but t ihad a nice balcony overlooking the pool. There was a jacuzzi bath and good shower although advertised double jacuzzi would be a very tight fit for 2 people!! Breakfast menu was limited but could be ordered at any time during the day. Service could be slow if it was busy earlier in the morning. Would definitely recommend this hotel as a character place to stay.
wonderful atmosphere and great staff”
this hotel is a complete difference to all the other local hotels. the building is quaint and slightly aged set amongst modern properties. but livingstones has a atmosphere and character all of its own. the staff are fun , the management helpful and i would not go anywhere else.you will either love it or hate it...i love it
Excellent value for money ”
I can not understand some of the other negative reviews the staff could not have been more helpful Yes the hotel is a little different to the photos but l though it was excellent value for money big comfortable rooms with jacuzzi and big TV and an excellent location close to the sky train station
Good location”
I expected the standard room good condition. But when i arrived there it seem like just for only sleep room nothing to do in the room. So i will book the biggest room Thank you for lived there for three days in ocean@ocean living stones hotel ^^
you get full value for what you pay.....”
I stayed for 3 nights 4 days....checked in on Sunday and checked out on Wednesday....I was a solo traveller. 1. It was easy to reach the hotel....at least not hard at all to find out. 2. Yes, mosquitoes were there in the room....and they were many....they made it difficult for me to take bath and to get relax....after I did complain at the reception....they sprayed in my room and after that I didnt faced this problem again.... Of course it would have been much better (because hotel management already knew that they have mosquitoes in their hotel and rooms) if they had sprayed the mosquito killer before I entered in the room. 3. Then I went to the Pool area....(It was Sunday)....it was amazing ambience there....I was there until 11 pm....though not much crowded and I missed dancing (everyone was only drinking and relaxing there....busy in there own groups).... 4. I was also there on Monday and Tuesday....sorry to say this...but it was like all dead there....only 3-4 guests were there....almost no activity at the bar and pool side....nothing exciting and enjoyable to do in the hotel..... 5. Yes, not many options for breakfast....it was supposed to be a buffet there....but whatever was available....taste was good enough.... 6. Area and Location is not the best (best location is NANA @ Sukhumvit and Pratunam area according to me)....but still it is good having many shops, 7 eleven, restaurants, bars, etc. etc. just outside the hotel... Good conectivity to the main road, taxis etc and phrom pong BTS station nearby....just at 3-4 mins of walking. Overall I felt it a value for money hotel....with some good and bad points.
Quaint Lodge in central Bangkok”
Livingstone Lodge is a really cool little oasis in central Bangkok, when you walk in you forget that you are in a big city and marvel over the little spa/lodge like feeling you get. Rooms are nice with working aircon and really comfortable beds, close to a lot of bars and clubs if you like that as well. The only negative is the hotel breakfast, not exactly buffet style, more minimalistic with attempts at proper coffee. Overall I do recommend the hotel should you want to escape the big city fopr a little while.
what you pay is what you get. dont expect too much”
my reservation was for 2 nights. although i stayed for 1 day due to their problems, but here is my review: 1. the location of the hotel is placed well in central bangkok near the bts station in sukhumvit, but it was very difficult to find! there are no proper sign showing where the hotel is. the sign board is very faded so hard to see. and also the sign board does not show the name of the hotel as ocean@ livingstones hotel, but it is written as ocean bangkok. which every customer who would walk by would get confused! 2. there should be proper staff in the hotel!, when arrived there was nobody at the reception. i had to wait approximately 10 minutes for somebody to come to the reception. 3. they could not provide us a room! they told us that the room we had booked they could not give to us.they said there was a problem with the door which they tried to fix, and could not fix it. made us wait for a long time. in the end they booked another hotel for us. but the quality of that hotel is worse, so we rejected their offer and we booked another hotel by ourselves which is closer than what they had offered, and it was better even though we paid around 500 baht more. but most probably they had over booked the hotel because they booked the other hotel for another customer as well and gave excuses to us saying that the door is broken. 4. the second day i arrived, they had a room available for me. they were nice to me, the room looked okay. not so clean, as there were dusts and pieces of hair on the bed and bathroom. the aircondition was not so cool especially in bangkok heat. not recommended for people with allergy, because i sneezed alot due to the dust. i cant complain too much because what i paid for is what i get. for a good location in bangkok the price is okay for the hotel. the staff tried to be very accomodating.
