Very nice and quiet place ”
I stayed one night in this mishunku japanese traditional house. It was a very pleasant stay. The house and room are very simple, no luxury (which is ok because I didn't come here for luxury !), but quiet and peaceful. I loved the area, the room (futons are so cosy with all the blankets), the diner and breakfast. By the way I was shocked to see other guests not touching the breakfast at all and then they just left the eating area with all the food on the table ... So impolite ! No respect at all! All the food was really good with fine dishes, pickles, home made miso ... Typical and delicious. I also enjoyed the Onsen (traditional outside hot bath) 3 times, amazing moments surrounded by the nature ! So if you are looking for a quiet place (with quiet staff) to feel the traditional vibes of japanese country side, this is the perfect place. But if you are looking for luxury, proper bed, western breakfast, staff always behind you asking if you need anything ... this place is not for you.
Authentic experience. ”
Ohara No Sato is tucked in treeline on a lush hillside. Ohara is a very charming farming village with important temples near by. Expect to : wear a yukata, sleep on tatami, eat local miso hotpot, be naked with strangers and respect the rules and traditions of a Japanese onsen.
very nice outdoor bath experience”
The location is very far and no combini nearby so you better have everything you need when you get there. The walk from the Ohara bus station to the minshuku is a very nice, serene one because you will walk in a quiet neighborhood in really small streets away from the main roads. If you are carrying big or heavy luggage, it is better to call them for the free pickup from the bus station. The outdoor bath is an amazing and relaxing experience, and the food is amazing and in really big servings! Everyone should try their miso paste and the miso ice cream across the street is also a must try. The rooms and the receiving area could use a bit of upgrading, though.
Thank you for coming to stay. My inn is an inn in the mountain which takes 1 hour from Kyoto station, so you can enjoy the change of the four seasons than the city area in Kyoto. If there is opportunity, please come to another season again. I think that it will be a new experience. Thank you.
Wonderful rural getaway”
I had an amazing time with my partner at Ohara no Sato Onsen. The package we got included a free dinner and a free breakfast the next morning, both of which featured traditional Japanese food with local miso varieties (all of which were delicious). It is situated on top of a hill so the air was fresh, the scenery was beautiful and there were little shops and a small temple to visit within walking distance as well. The room and hot springs (including a small outside one) were a little aged but still clean and agreeable. It was not super easy to get to, as it is about an hour outside Kyoto city but accessible by public transport. I would recommend it if you would like an experience outside the hustle and bustle of the city.
A budget Hot Spring Hotel with Excellent Food ”
Although it is quite a long distance from the main city of Kyoto, I love to live with the nature. The hotel built next to a hill, I enjoy the relax mood when in the hot spring with Green plants.. Also, the dinner and breakfast were excellent! you must love it~ I would recommend to the travelers who love the nature!!
Good food and good experience for staying ”
I like the food (dinner and breakfast) they provide. And the room and bed is very comfortable also the hot spring is awesome. It's my second time staying, last time was in winter. This time is in summer, I was lucky to visit the hotel during firefly period. At night, they took us out and show us firefly in the countryside. It was great!
Staff are friendly and helpful. Well taken care of with provided breakfast and dinner. Love the view surrounded the onsen. Peaceful and best way to get away from the city life. Love the onsen. The disadvantage is only the travelling time from kyoto station to oohara station and also 40mins walk from oohara to the onsen.
An hour's travel earns you a countryside view ”
An hour's travel time from Kyoto Station, the hostel picked us up at the bus station within 10 minutes after making a call to them. The staff very polite and helpful. The room we settle down is with garden view, and you could enjoy the onsen til 11PM, though people still go to enjoy it after the closing time. The dinner is self-help Shabu-shabu styled and the breakfast is good with a beautiful garden view. The night we stayed, there are not many foreighners. I would recommend those who would like to enjoy onsen without interrupted by the crowd.
Nice Japanese Ryokan a bit far from Kyoto”
Ohara No Sato Onsen is a traditional Japanese Ryokan which is about a 1h bus ride from central Kyoto. The hotel has nice traditional Japanese rooms, breakfast and dinner. If you are a couple or come with a bigger group or family, it's a very nice place to stay. You can enjoy the surroundings and the food the this place.
Quite far from the city (go by bus no. 17 or 18 at bus station C3 to Oohara from JR station-cost about 580 per pax). Very nice environment. We walked around the place and took photo of small farm. Feel so great enjoying the hot spring in the old weather. Very quiet place. Dinner and the breakfast was great.
Loved This Place!”
This onsen/ryokan is really, really lovely. The food is traditional and good. I loved the hot pot. There are many temples within walking distance. Take the 17 bus from Kyoto station to the last stop. Give the Ryokan a call and someone will come collect you. The perfect end to a day of walking is relaxing in hot water. Perfect.
This was my third time at this charming minshuku, and I will definitely come back. ”
The miso nabe is excellent and very filling, I love the outside bath, and the staff is friendly and very welcoming to their guests. I have never been disappointed with my stay here and highly recommend it.
Onsen outdoor is just amazing, indoor’s is a little too old that it has stains that looks a little dirty. (Just one of it though) Facilities are really old, but other than the indoors onsen everything looks clean and fine to me.
Thank you for coming to stay. My inn is aimed at maintaining traditional Japanese country houses. So my inn is a traditional wooden building, it is not a convenient and comfortable building of concrete in front of Kyoto station. Instead, at my inn, you can experience traditional Japanese country houses. GOEMON outdoor bath, miso pot dish, rural landscape, traditional Japanese garden. You are looking for new, comfortable and convenient ones at other inn, and please come to experience our traditional Japanese rural inn at my inn. Thank you.
The best staff and service”
My wife lost her cellphone in the bus we took to come here, and we told a staff here so. A few hours later, the staff got the cellphone back! What a amazing staff. I still cannot believe what happened to us. It was so miraculous experience.
An excellent way to experience an onsen and feel the rural side of Japan”
- Nice traditional Japanese house in a rural environment - Perfect place to stay after exploring nearby Sanzen-in and Ohara town - Host provided ample guides from how to wear a yukata, prepare futon beds and onsen etiquettes. - Relatively affordable given that great dinner and breakfast are included - For first time onsen users (like us), I can wholeheartedly say this is the best place to get you started
Amazing Onsen Experience”
The staff was amazing and very kind! And the miso nabe dinner was really great and very filling. The onsen itself was relaxing and sleeping on futon was wonderful. I recommended this to two of my friends and they seemed to have enjoyed it as well.
Good way to see the countryside of Kyoto and go to a hot springs hotel, without having to paying an arm and a leg for the ones near Kurama and Kifune. Beautiful, rural town with lots of quiet, mossy temples. We biked here from Kyoto and it was a nice, short ride to take in the countryside
A place to relax”
Very quiet and peaceful place. They have lovely outdoor onsen for relaxing. I love their miso soup hotpot, very delicious miso soup. They also have different types of miso paste to try, it is delicious even just eat it with rice. Breakfast is good too. Communication is not a problem even though most of the staffs there speak limited English. We gave them a call for the shuttle service when we reached the bus stop and they came to pick us up immediately. Walking distance to the minshuku is about 15 minutes, I think it is better to use the shuttle service if you have heavy luggages because the road is not flat all the way. You will go through path with stairs and some uphill road along the way, but the scenery is beautiful anyway. The cons is the shared toilets were a bit smelly. Nice experience overall!
The hosts were very accomodating to our check-in time and picked us up from the bus stop as well. The only downside would be that it is a bit far from the Kyoto Downtown
Nice but also most crowded onsen hotel I’ve ever experienced”
Rooms were clean and spacious, and our dinner and breakfast were very nice for the price. However the onsen bath was extremely crowded during our stay - autumn leaf season.
Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!
Hot spring bath
