A quirky oasis of calm in Central Seoul. ”
I usually feel that it is the people far more than the place which really make a memorable experience when travelling, but the Ohbok Guesthouse has both to recommend it! It feels much more like a home stay than a guesthouse, with the owner and his mother going out of their way to make you feel comfortable and provide everything you need. We were upgraded from a triple to a family room and it was just lovely. Spotlessly clean, full of character, and the perfect size for 3 people. I've stayed in several hanok guesthouses and this was the biggest room I've had, although the Ohbok and hanoks generally are very compact proportions. We had a private bathroom but also made use of the shared bathrooms which were equally clean. Breakfast was simple; toast, egg, PB & J. Tea and coffee is always available. Despite having all the traditional charm of a hanok the Ohbok also had all the modern conveniences you need like fast wifi, effective A/C and a good shower :-) And it's so peaceful! The tiny plant-filled courtyard in the centre is a lovely place to relax and you won't believe you're in the centre of a mega city. Located just a few minutes from Gyeongbukgong Palace in Seoul, the guesthouse is in a perfect location for exploring Insadong and central Seoul. We were also just a short subway ride from the city limits, and able to get up and away from it all into Bukhansan mountain in about 30 minutes. There are loads of cafes and coffee shops and art spaces in the immediate neighbourhood, and I really recommend the little restaurant tucked away just around the corner from the guesthouse. I think a hanok is a great way to experience a bit of traditional Korea and I would definitely return to the Ohbok next time I visit Seoul.
Fantastic 1st Experience”
This is my first time to South Korea and I was really pleased that I chose Ohbok Hanok Guesthouse. This place is centrally located, it is walking distance from the Guesthouse to major scenic spots, and indeed it is next to SamcheongDong, a place which is full of local restaurants, cafe and independent arts studio. It is about 5 minutes walk to subway station. In a word, superb location. And then the boss of the Guesthouse ( his English name is Mystery)was so friendly, thoughtful and helpful. He was always ready to answer your questions about South Korea, he offered suggestions on where to see, where to eat, where to shop, those suggestions were not for travellers but rather for local people, which means really local and cheap. This Guesthouse is one of the key reasons for me to go back to Seoul and it made my first trip to South Korea so pleasant and unforgetable. Thank you Ohbok Hanok Guesthouse.
Great Experience to Stay in Traditional Hanok”
Location : Ohbok Hanok is about 10-15 mins walk (depends on your pace) from Anguk Railway Station Exit 1 or Bus stop 6011 (airport bus) (you can also find the location map on its website). It is just 2 min walk from National Museum of Modern Art and 10-15 min walk from other sightseeing places e.g. Sam Cheon Dong area, Gyeongbukgong Palace, Insadong, etc. Room Condition: We were upgraded from double room to triple room (weekday). Both the room and washroom were very clean, tidy and well maintained, thus the room was very similar to the pictures shown in Agoda. Wifi signal was strong in room. We think some criticized that the room was very small is unfair since it is traditional Korean Hanok and the room size is already shown in sq. m in room info. So you should acknowledge the room size when you make reservation. Service: Basic breakfast is provided from 8am-10am. The host can speak English and he is very generous. After checked in, he not only showed and gave us the map with the location of restaurant we wanted to go, he was also worried the restaurant already closed by the time we got there (we checked in quite late that night) thus he also suggested other restaurants near that area just in case. The next day we inquired about other sightseeing info. He showed us clearly and he also wrote the address in Korean in case we need to ask other Korean people who don't speak English/ show to driver. He also recommended local shop to us instead of those 'targeted' tourists. The host mother cannot speak English but she had tried her best to serve us, we managed to communicate with body language and 'google translate', and it was also a special experience to us! We recommend to get the contact no. from the host in case you really can't communicate with host mother/ in emergency while he is away. Overall: We recommend Ohbok Hanok Guesthouse to those who would like to experience traditional Korean accommodation.
I'm really sad about my schedule have changed and I miss the chance of living in Ohbok Hanok Guesthouse. However the owner was kindly remind me three times by email, that was so sweet,I'm really appreciate about that. 고맙습니다~ 감사합니다~ Last time I had wonderful and most romantic experience in Seoul with the man who I loved. Time flies away without delay, everything have been changed. By the way I really want to enjoy the traditional breakfast in there and cycle around 。 I would definitely return to the Ohbok next time.
Excellent area, comfortable stay, lovely owner”
I was travelling with my sister and the stay at Ohbok Hanok Guesthouse was just lovely. The location is simply excellent, right next to Gyeongbokgung palace. A walking distance from insadong, etc. and we even walked to Changgyeong Palace anyway. very easy accessible. Guys, make sure you walk up the Lovely owner Mr. Lee was very very very very kind. He kindly sat with us almost half an hour to explain recommended places to visit, he made us breakfast, he helped us with airport shuttle reservation (we kept changing our plans and he had to made like 5 calls I feel really bad for him) and the best of all he upgraded our room for free. Simply put he is very helpful and very kind. It was a very pleasant stay.
the best homestay to experience in seoul”
6 of us stayed in Ohbok Hanok for 6 nights and we had a wonderful and pleasant experience, thanks to the friendly host and his mother. The host speaks English and recommends a lot places for us to visit with maps on hand. The place is clean and cosy with breakfast and towels provided. You will be given a lock and keys to your room and host is always around, so you know your stuff are safe inside your room. Attractions such as palace, museum, and amenities such as shopping, dining, and the subway was within walking distance. Other popular spots are also within a few subway stations away which was really convenient. The host also helped us book a good and comfortable taxi to drive us to the airport. Overall we had a fun and homely stay at the hanok. We would highly recommend anyone to come and stay to have a unique experience of homestay in seoul.
Awesome Hanok Stay!”
If you are looking to stay in a hanok while in Seoul, I would highly recommend Ohbok Guesthouse. The host is extremely kind and helpful. He even let us keep our luggage there for an extra night while we stayed at a jimjilbang, and he cooks breakfast for you each morning. The hanok is conveniently located near several of the palaces and is pretty close to Anguk station. Overall, I would certainly stay here again and recommend the hanok experience to anyone looking to travel in Seoul.
Great Experience to Stay in Ohbok Hanok”
The room and bed are very comfortable. The room is warm enough with the floor heated, but the host was very considerate to also providing us with a heater. Hairdryer and shampoos are also provided. The wifi is strong and fast. Apart from toasts, tea and coffee, hot soup and egg are served in breakfast. The host can speak English and he is very generous. After checked in, he not only showed and gave us the map with the location of restaurant we wanted to go, he also showed us where we can find good food and souvenir made by local artists. The host is so kind and friendly that he has impressed us so much. The guesthouse is very close to many attractions; and all are within walkable distance. I think a hanok is a great way to experience a bit of traditional Korea and I would definitely return to the Ohbok next time I visit Seoul.
Comfortable hanok guesthouse close to the palaces”
I stayed at Ohbok Hanok Guesthouse for 2 nights and it was a great experience staying at a traditional house...the ondol heated floor is interesting. The place is along a small street and you might miss it the first time. However, massive plus points as the guesthouse is minutes away from Gyeongbukgung and walking distance to the Bukchon village and 10 mins to Cheongdukgung. I enjoyed my stay.
Excellent Korean Staycation! ”
Since we were really looking for a Hanok/Korean Traditional homestay, we based our judgment on the reviews and we made the right choice! Walking distance to the top tourist attractions like National Museums & Parks, Palaces, Bukchon Hanok Village. Quite near downtown proper Myeongdong. Super accommodating Manager and Oma. Very clean and organized rooms. Unlimited drinking water hot/cold. They cook/serve breakfast too & w/ unlimited fast WIFI. They help you on where to go and give you maps. If you're traveling from the airport via Bus or Train, go down to Anguk Station, walking distance to the area of Gyeongbokgung Palace about 5-10mins, before reaching the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Seoul you must see the street of this homestay. It should be easy to find. They arrange also transportation if you wish so. Also, the manager makes a very nice personalized special printed shirt that you could order for use/souvenirs. I definitely recommend this place and would go back again with my family & friends. We had a fantastic staycation here! (Stay & Vacation) Thank you so much too Agoda.
It is an excellent experience to live in traditional Korea style guesthouse. It is very close to Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and near the subway station, line 3, Anguk Station with about 5~8 min. walking distance. The guesthouse staff is very nice, every morning, he will prepare the detailed map of recommend route, it is very helpful for us, he can speak good English. The grandma will prepare the breakfast every morning, though it is simply, but has the family feeling. In a word, if I will be back to Seoul, will live it again.
Great host, Great location, Great value for money!”
If you would like to experience living in a traditional hanok house and sleep on a heated ondol, then this is the place to stay! The host is extremely nice and friendly and I don't think I would have enjoyed Seoul as much if it weren't for his great advices on places to go to. I went to great local restaurants as well as the touristy must-go places. The location is also close to the Gyeongbukgung palace and the national folk museum which are nice places to look at. It is also close to the bukchon hanok village and ihwa-dong mural village. Breakfast was provided in the morning as well and so is laundry service. If you would like, you can also borrow the host's bicycle to get around. Highly recommended! Thanks Jung Su for the great Seoul experience!
Authentic traditional house with generous host”
The traditional Hanok house is nicely refurbished, and maintains an authentic flavor. Rooms are very neat. You have to live the traditional Korean way - leaving your shoes in front of doors, sleeping on the floor (in winter you can feel the floorheating through the layers of beddings, very comfortable!) etc. But this was part of the fun too. The location is unrivalled. You could wander around the Bukchon area with traditional houses, cafes and galleries, or to the grand Palace literally next door. Shopping street Isadong is very close. Other major attractions in the center could be reached by foot within half an hour or a few stops with the subway. Yet it is very quiet at night. The host family is super friendly and generous. The floor heating was good, but since I'm very sensitive to cold weather, they made the effort to bring me another electronic heater. They helped me with way finding in Seoul, marked up everything for me on map. They definitely made me feel at home in Seoul and I would come here again when I go back to Seoul.
It's not a "guest",house, it's a "family",house!”
This is best guesthouse I've ever lived! The owner, who is also the cooker, the local guide, the best buddy, makes this house warm and comfortable. The hanok is protected and decorated very nicely, u can experience the Han culture here. It's located just beside the Gueongbokgung, can walk to several cultural scenes, can walk to subway station.
Excellent hanok style accomodation, very friendly ”
We traveled with 2 small children. This is a traditional hanok accomodation and it only has a few rooms. Some of them have a bathroom within the room. It has a beautiful small inner courtyard to rest. The place is extremely clean, has charm and is perfect if you want to experience a traditional hanok surrounding. Good location, 5 minutes walking to the subway, and plenty of nice restaurants nearby. The guy running the hanok was extremely helpful
we could relax and refresh like a home”
We choose this guest house due to location and the achitecture ,traditional Korean style. but it was really good time to spend here more than we expected. If we need some rest to relax like in a home in country, its natural to choose Ohbok Hanok guest house. Lee san will welcome us like a real friend.
Nice and cosy stay in a beautiful hanok”
We intended on staying 3 days but have elected to stay for the entire trip instead. Host is kind and has shown us good places to go, suggested itineraries that have worked out really well, and assisted us in his own time to help arrange a ski trip and other tours. We took the room with private bathroom which was really good being winter and all. The wifi is great and there is a tv with English channels available. It is really close to Hanok village, Anguk Station with many places to eat, little markets everywhere and also near the palaces. I would definitely recommend this place for both short or longer stays in Korea.
Great location with friendly owner”
Location is great with nearby places of interest and shopping. Owner will email clear directions on from Incheon airport to the guesthouse before your check-in date. He will also provide you with recommendations on where to eat and visit in Seoul.
Superh host and location!”
Had a great experience with hanok, sleeping on heated floors. Authentic! Few steps to the Gwanghamun Gate and other attractions. Mr. Jung is the best host ever. He even booked a taxi to pick us up from the airport for a reasonable price.
Fantastic Stay and Experience”
Lovely experience staying in Traditional Korean House. Location is perfect, situated in between Gyeongbokgung Palace (경복궁) and Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을). Walking distance to each place of interest is 5 minutes +/-. Nearest subway station is Anguk Station. The owner communicates in English and is very friendly and helpful.
