Exceptional”
Everything was phenomenal. Excellent Kaiseki dinner. Western style bed was very comfortable. Private, in room, onsen was very relaxing. I could fall asleep listening to the running stream and looking at the stars. Not speaking japanese was not a problem. I felt taken care of in every way! Thank you!

For A Special Occasion ”
This is an expensive hotel in a tranquil setting on the outskirts of Nikko town, about a 10 minute walk to catch the local tourist buses. A shuttle bus transfer to the train stations is provided, however, at selected times in the mornings & afternoons. Our Japanese-style room included a private bathroom, along with access to the public indoor & outdoor onsens. Depending on the time of day, you may find to have the onsens to yourself. The breakfast & Kaiseki dinners were fantastic and the menu was different over our 2-night stay. Staff were very friendly, even with limited English. Accommodation for a special occasion.

A wonderful hotel with wonderful service”
Thanks a lot for your great services during our stay. This is clearly the best night of our honeymoon trip in Japan. Everyone in the hotel treated us with excellent services. They really did the best to provide the best service. The hotel is so beautiful and clean and so peaceful. The outdoor onsen is amazing. The public onsen is also great. The hotel also arranged the Japanese futon bedding for us besides the Western beds in the room. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast are at top quality, so beautiful and delicious. We appreciate all the dishes were explained carefully by our lady. The location of the hotel is perfect for our plan to explore the Nikko national park/ Jizo abyss. The hotel picked us up at Toshogu and dropped us back to the train station. We will definitely come back here next time we are back to Nikko. Arigatogosaimasu!

Modern/hotel-like ryokan with stunning garden”
Expensive ryokan, but it is generally expensive in Nikko any way. It is a good ryokan, but I felt it was a little too modern for my taste. You don't even have to take off your shoes until you get to your room! That said, service was wonderful - but I don't expect anything less. The garden is the most impressive piece. It truly gives you the taste of wabi-sabi (google it if you must). The onsen facilities are great - you get unlimited towels, and the common shower area is very large. The rotemburo is lovely, but definitely not the top onsens I have experienced. For the price you can get a much better ryokan stay further from Tokyo, but in Nikko I think it is a good price. The room I stayed in (with private balcony but no private onsen) is spacious, and I especially loved the balcony.

Best Introduction to Traditional Japan!”
From the first greeting to help with leaving train schedules, this hotel was the epitome of courtesy, friendliness and comfort. The multi-course meals were the best Japanese food we encountered on our two-week tour of Japan, and that includes some Michelin-starred restaurants in Tokyo and Kyoto. Not only that, but the chef made delicious accommodations for one of us with a fish allergy -- no small task with traditional food. We had a room with the option of futons or Western-style beds, because we weren't sure if we would be comfortable on the former, but we ended up preferring the futons. The private bath ovelooking a serene garden was a haven after touring the spectacular complex of Nikko temples and shrines in the heat of high summer. Those temples are all within a 20 minute slightly hilly walk of the hotel, which was convenient for us; but the hotel will happily convey you to and from the start of the temple trail if you want to conserve your strenghth for that part of your tour. The staff speaks limited English but was so friendly that communicarion was seldom an issue -- and when it was the owner, who is quite fluent, was able to step in (such as helping me find an ATM machine after I used most of my cash in the historical area and needed more for train tickets).

A treat!”
We felt well taken care of the minute we were picked up by the hotel manager at the train station. He offered plenty of tips about attractions around Nikko while processing our check-in, and seemed very dedicated to ensuring we had the best possible time. Dinner and breakfast were amazing - full of lovely touches and attention to detail. Service was always attentive but not overbearing, and the room had everything we could have wanted. This was a perfect place for a short getaway.

One of the best ever!!”
It's so great that this hotel could perhaps become one of the attractions to visit Nikko! There wasn't Sakura, maple or snow during my visit, still the hotel alone is meaningful enough and totally worth the cost and traveling. Highly recommended!

Great Japanese-style hotel”
Really enjoyed our first stay in a Japanese-style hotel. Food was amazing (we stayed half board) and very helpful staff willing to drop you off and pick you up on the shuttle bus route. Nikko itself is beautiful, and some lovely quiet paths away from the main temples.

Best stay I had so far”
I'm a frequent hotel guest and stay in 5 star hotels often and I can say that this is one of the best, if not the best hotel I have stayed in. There is no gym, pool, bar or facilities that qualify it for 5 star status but the stay experience was so good that its 5 star in my book. Check-in was done in a small seating area and we were led to our room and introduced to the room features. My room had the in room open air onsen and being able to have a soak anytime was great. Dinner was a lavish affair in the private dining room. Seasonal produce and fresh fish, great meal. After dinner, the room attendant came in the lay our futons on the tatami and we retired for the night soon after. Very relaxing and highly recommended for couples.

The perfect getaway!”
I stayed for 2 nights and was so impressed. The kaiseki dinners were beautiful and the western breakfast was exactly what I wanted! I had the Ginryu room and I was mostly excited for the onsen! It snowed and it was magical. Its the perfect spot to see shrines and do some local shopping. The staff is SO very kind. You can borrow manga, books, and CDs for your stay. Their public onsen is small, but very nice with good amenities. The ONLY reason I didn't give cleanliness 5 stars is because I'm very scared of bugs, a problem in Japan, and there were some spiderwebs and other things along my balcony. This country as a whole likes to not disturb nature so I didn't mind too much but it still bothered me. This was such a fantastic trip. I already want to go back. It even snowed! A big deal since I'm from Southern California. You will NOT be disappointed if you stay here at all. You're gonna have a great time!
