    Non-gamblin' Native Nevadan Says "No"”

Any new place you stay is a gamble, but I hoped this hostel managed by the Mizpah was a better bet than what we ended up with. I thought this was a good value in that it is a hostel style stay with a room of your own, a shared 3/4 bathroom, and shared kitchenette. I didn't know it would be the preferred construction workers' choice as well. My wife and I planned on going star gazing both nights we were there. The first night went fine, but there was only one other person staying at the hostel with us. The second night we took a nap at 6:45 planning to awake at 10 so we could have plenty of energy to stay out late gazing at the night sky. We were awoken violently to the fire alarm and flashing lights as some moron decided to smoke in his room. The alarm went on and on for 30 minutes. My wife and I decided it would be more peaceful sitting in our car parked outside. The fire department even showed up to try to figure out what the heck was going on. I felt bad for the folks running the place, but no one was kicked out and things went back to the usual joke. On top of this among the construction workers were at least a few filthy slobs who don't know how to clean up after themselves in the kitchenette area or the bathrooms. After they were used they stank and were visibly dingy as filth covered the floors and counters. The price was three times what it should have been, and it wasn't a high priced room. I will never consider it again, and I would ask you to consider literally ANYWHERE else but this place.
