I usually don't write reviews, but this place was so good that I felt compelled to. It offers the best cost performance for solo travelers near Taipei. First of all, the first floor is a café and bar, and breakfast is served every day from 8 to 10 AM. They offer both tea and herbal tea. There is an elevator, so there's no need to carry heavy luggage up the stairs. I booked a female-only room, which is well separated from the male space. The showers and toilets are really clean. The bed was spotless and, most importantly, spacious enough to open a suitcase and place it beside the bed. Both the room and common areas have effective air conditioning, making it very comfortable. And the location is excellent—right in front of the Y13 exit. Taipei has a well-developed underground mall, which was really convenient. There are convenience stores and local eateries nearby, and there are plenty of people around even at night, making it a safe area. The staff was very friendly and greeted us with smiles. While there was some communication among guests, there wasn’t a designated time for everyone to gather and talk. It felt more like exchanging greetings and small talk occasionally. Overall, it was a great place. If I come to Taiwan again, I would definitely want to stay here.
Recently, I was taken care of for one night. Check-in was at 4 PM, but I arrived in Taipei on an early morning flight, so I had my luggage stored from around 8 AM. After that, I checked in at 4 PM. While also working at the attached café bar, they kindly explained the facilities to me. There were staff members who spoke Japanese, which made it easy! The restrooms and shower facilities were clean and comfortable. I was a bit confused about how to use the shower, but after fiddling with it, I managed to figure it out. The bed had about 30 centimeters of space next to it, which was convenient for organizing my luggage! It was clean, and I didn't experience any inconveniences. The next day, I had an 11 AM checkout, but they again stored my luggage until around 7 PM before I headed to the airport. As a smoker, I appreciated that there was an ashtray at the terrace seats in front of the hostel. Well, the locals were casually smoking on the streets and littering, though (´ｰ｀). In any case, it’s a very good accommodation! If you make good use of the Taipei underground mall right in front, you can move to Taipei Station without getting wet on rainy days! I will use it again! ♡
It was my first time traveling alone, and I chose to book a hostel to save costs. Choosing this was probably the best outcome for me. The location is 10-15 mins away from the Taipei Main Station (granted, on the third day of walking back and forth, my feet were starting to kill me haha) and 5 mins away from the Airport MRT Station. It's fairly convenient already if you don't mind the walking you're gonna have to do. The hostel's location is also very pleasant. I love that a YouBike station (Taiwan's self-bike rental) is so close, and I was able to enjoy cycling around the streets of Taipei on the first day. The hostel itself is small, but full of personality. The staff are very lovely people, and I appreciated them asking you how your trip is from time to time. I'm pretty introverted, so I didn't do a lot of mingling but there's a nice common area upstairs if you want to chat with other travelers as well as the staff, too. The hostel room I stayed at with 12 others was spacious in comparison to other hostels I scouted in the area; large head space. There isn't anywhere to put your luggage but outside, though, but that's fine. The bathroom was also kept clean and tidy. There were about 3 toilet stalls, and 2 shower rooms on the female dormitory floor. I didn't really experience that much of a waiting time in terms of bathroom usage, but I think it's because I always got back to the hostel late at night haha. Also, Breakfast was included in my stay! They make it for you fresh every morning. Their taiwanese omelette was very delicious :) Overall, I was very pleased with my stay at Old Door Hostel. They were very accommodating to me, and I could see their passion for keeping this thing together. I hope I get to come back to Taipei in the future ~
The location is right in front of you if you go up the underground passage Y13, and the staff is cute, kind, and can communicate in Japanese. They also serve welcome tea and offer a complimentary drink of tea, beer, or whiskey. The beds are separated by curtains, ensuring privacy. There are shelves and two hangers around the bed, and you can also hang towels on the handrail. The downside is that bath towels are available for rent and the usage of the security box is not easy to understand. Other than that, the cost performance is excellent, and I would highly recommend this hostel.

My 2nd stay here and I’m glad I’ve made that choice. Really no fret. - Convenience (@Y13 exit of Taipei main station underground street mall, and walking distance to Xi Men Ding), also, central to all forms of transport to everywhere in Taipei. - Nice and clean bed bunk and toilets. No bugs. The toilet has electronic bidet seat - can choose different functions. Shiok sia. - Lovely counter staff. Taiwanese are the most hospitable. - 1st level is a cafe where they serve home-made egg-rolls and peanut/chocolate toasted bread every morning. A pleasant addition from previous stay is a promotional offer of a cuppa free tea, whisky or beer every night! So I buy back finger food from nearby Ningxia night market to pair w this tea / beer. - At nights, when customers chat and drink at the level 1 cafe, could barely hear any noise despite being just below us. 🙌 Overall, though a few dollars more exp than nearby hostels, I’d still return for its location, cleanliness and comfort, service, BF and free night beverages. Good job keep it up!
