we enjoyed a lot our stay in Old Five. Room was clean and comfortable with beautiful wooden decorations, very nice mountain view outside the room and the garden, they provided us healthy local vegetarian meals, the staffs were very helpful and friendly.

Awesome stay”

Best guesthouse I've stayed in TW. So close to nature and there was a night tour after dinner where the staff introduced us to the nature areas surrounding the guesthouse. Lovely environment and I feel really relaxed during my stay there. Dinner was very sumptuous and they served such huge portions we had to ask them to reduce the portions on our 2nd night. We requested for vegetarian food and it was really delicious. Their breakfast spread was really good too for someone who doesn't like to eat bread and buns, I actually had 2-3 servings of their mantou every morning! One of the staff, a yoga instructor, brought us to a suspension bridge nearby and it was really beautiful during sunset. You can see both sides of the mountain. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely fabulous. The night and day tour were eye opening and created good awareness of the ecosystem around us. The messaging of eat well and live well was immersed in the entire enviornment. Staff was knowledgeable and we can feel that what they are doing is beyond just serving the customers well. Definitely worth the effort to travel all the way there!

Awesome place to stay”

It was indeed a memorable stay for me & my family. We feel very much at home and one night stay is a bit short. I have the feeling of can't bear to leave the place on the following morning. We have been welcome by the friendlines of the staffs & host. The home cook food both dinner and breakfast are awesome! We enjoyed the night tour around the farm with the knowledgable staff bringing us around. The room is very airy and cool. Air-conditioning is not required. In the morning, I was awaken by a soothing music & birds'chirping. Outside the room you may catch the view of part of the moutain. Well, can't ask for more....is like a paradise! I will highly recommend it to my friends and will go back again.

Relaxing atmosphere, a worthy experience”

Excellent. Everything is just what we expected. The hotel host took us to a little field trip around the main building at night. He also brought us to some local organic passion fruit and cabbage farm the next day. It’s a great learning experience for our little son. Will definitely come again!

A lovely and memorable stay”

dinner and breakfast is very delicious and healthy. we get to know a bit more about nature and taiwan through the night nature walk and chit chat over chinese tea/vinegar after dinner with ah tai. there are morning activity to visit mushroom farm and pick grapes (in season) too. highly recommended.

An authentic travel experience”

We stayed 3 nights with our 2 children and thoroughly enjoyed a unique experience. The guesthouse is beautiful, designed by the owner in what looked to us like Japanese style with lots of fragrant hinoki wood. Our room was perfectly simple (no tv thank you!), with firm beds facing the window with a view on the mountains. Our kids spent a lot of time in the garden trying to catch fish with butterfly nets… Food was great with abundant very fresh local ingredients. Steam bread is homemade like the plum jam and seems very popular in the area. Richard took great care of us, from the pick-up at the Taichung station to the activity planning and co-ordination with the guesthouse team and driver (shame on us for not speaking Chinese). The small scale of the place enables interaction with guests over evening drinks & snacks or farm hopping ; they also kindly helped us translating and even organizing activities. This makes a huge difference with all the anonymous hotels we went to in particular for work. We cycled around the sun moon lake, visited farms, walked through the xitou forest, went to hot springs and saw several very local sites. Bring a headlamp to read and enjoy the garden fireflies and details at night. We found the Nantou countryside very special and beautiful, people naturally welcoming and friendly. A great introduction that calls for more discovery.
