You can walk around easily. There are lots of bar and restaurant around hostel. The bank bed seems like quite old but I didn’t mind tho. The staff are helpful. She gave me a map and explain where she recommends and also shouldn’t go at night time. The hostel’s atmosphere is really cool ! I definitely recommend to stay!
Great place to stay on a budget!”
The staff were so helpful here. They went out of their way to recommend restaurants, travel information and answer questions. The room is good for the price. I stayed in a single room and they offered me earplugs because sometimes the music on love lane is a bit loud but I wanted the room close to the wifi so I was near the front. I was working online and have to say the wifi wasn't great. But I had a simcard so I used my hotspot when it was too slow. The location is great. It is walking distance from Little India and Chinatown. There is bus about 100m away you can get to Penang Hill, Batu Ferringgi Beach or Kek Lok Si Temple. They serve toast, fruit and tea/coffee for breakfast. Tea, coffee and water are available for free all through the day which of course is good if you're on a budget too! I liked the building it is a wooden floor old style colonial building with high ceilings etc. not the super fancy posh style hotel. Overall I would highly recommend this place.
Signature old house in love lane.”
This is an over 100 years old house. Guesthouse hosts maintain this in good quality and very friendly. Since always open main door and located in old block, so some mosquitoes flys in room or public area.
Mosquitos in the room”
Location is good on love lane if you're looking for bars, and lots of restaurants nearby. Just don't get the rooms facing the street as it would be noisy. We booked double room ensuite unfortunately there is so much mosquitos because the toilet has an opening and not covered so the mozzys could come in. The hotel should cover it up. If you book a double room don't get this one. Free flow of local Coffee and simple breakfast toast is nice.
Very nice place and the staff are friendly. The private room is cosy and comfortable. ”
The bunk beds are a little bit low. But the shower is good and the common area is spacious
Good location, clean and cheap hostel.”
If you want a place where the action is, go for this hostel. lots of food option, bars, 7/11 and easy access to taxi and bus.. they are very strict on the check-in/check-out time policy so don't expect you can check-in earlier than 2 pm.
Great location, lot of character”
The guesthouse is ideally located in Georgetown, close to lots of great street food. The place was clean, and we had the room at the back which was reasonably quiet. There are bars nearby which frequently have live music
Good place to stay for a short trip!”
Breakfast was good, they serve bread for you to toast or eat it with a few types of spread plus free flow of coffee or tea for breakfast. Water dispenser also there for you to refill, just don't forget to bring your own bottle. Just some tips, kindly ask for room at the back side of the guesthouse if you want some good sleep because there are many bar that play loud music in front of the guesthouse. If you don't mind loud and noisy environment to sleep you can choose the front side. Please be advised parking for car can be a bit troublesome if you return late to the guesthouse, you cannot simply park at the area in front of the bar because they will add more table/seat at the parking spot. But they have paid parking lot beside the guesthouse if you don't mind to pay ;)
Worset stay, Very rude staff!”
The lady claims she was the owner. We booked bnb with breakfast, she had shown very bad attidudte to us and coimplained we had too much slicdes of bread! There was just 2 bags of bread, 3 can of bread spread/butter/jam, all the cheapest one you can get from supermarket... and 2 bottle of milk, no refill!! And she is still complaining we had too much!! This is the most expensive bnb in George town when we booked! Worest experiene ever! Never go back again. The room was rundown and the window cannot close...
Rooms can be very loud, be prepared for that. Other than that, its nice and spacious (not the single rooms though) and there is free tea, coffee, drinking water.
Lovely building and very friendly staff. Only downside was breakfast was at 8am, it could be a little earlier than this.
Overall not bad”
Nice place in general. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are nice and clean. Sometimes no hot water though and it is difficult sleep because some guests are extremely noisy. The rooms are not soundproof at all so you can hear anything and everyone. Lots of mice running around the place as well. Wifi is not working in the rooms and not enough free seats in the shared area. The staff is also sitting and relaxing in the shared area so sometimes not possible to access the wifi at all. It’s a bit annoying since we needed to make arrangements for our next stay. Book flights, accommodation etc. Ok place to stay except those few things.
great location and very helpful staff”
The hostel is near the bus stop and good street food. The staff were friendly and helped with which public buses to take to different sights as well as booking my onward bus. It has little lockers to store your valuables and kept quite clean for an old building.
Nice guesthouse, very similar to the 80's guesthouse, which is actually owned by the same people. It is a bit cheaper but also a bit less cozy than the 80's. The room and common area were very clean though and the staff also very friendly. I recommend it
Central location in Georgetown. Comfortable and Clean Guesthouse”
I stayed in single bed room with shared bathroom and have no complaints. The guesthouse is in a central location and easy to access restaurants and attractions in Georgetown. The room was basic, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast is toast and fruit, but there is a kitchen that can be used if you wish to purchase and make your own. Staff are friendly and accommodating.
Definitely worth for money. I did not stay in the bunk-bed-room, i stayed in a single room (shared bathroom). Everything was just fine, facilities are complete, hot shower works very well. Surrounding might be very noisy as this hostel is just few steps away from the midnight pubs and bars as you can still drop the beat (lol) from your room even it is 3:00 am! This is true, and I like it. Do not worry about foods and shops,as they are just walking distance range from the hostel. The receptionist, an Indian lady named Ms. Jeya is so friendly that she showed everything and recommended place to eat.
Good hostel and live soft music from near cafe.”
Mayority guest is from western people. Good hostel but for guest from asia especially malay, indo, thai or singapore will not conform with toilet. Since only cleaning 1x in 1 day. Every night or morning i can see pee or poop guest but not cleaning well and staff at there not check it. But so far staff really hell us. And i enjoy love music from near cafe from hostel
Really appreciated my stay here. Great people, good location, they always kept everything very clean and were very helpful. Was a very safe and welcoming atmosphere, not too loud either, was quiet and peaceful. Will come back here next time i am in Penang!
In the Heart of Penang”
I was on a Visa Run from Thailand. The hotel is right on Love Lane in the heart of Penang. My room was above the reception quiet close to the road and it therefore was quiet noisy. Great Location though!
Nice hostel - not family friendly”
We - myself, my husband and our 4 year old -stayed two nights at this hotel. We checked in very late on the first night. This hotel is on a party street. Our room was at the front and we may as well have had our bed on the pavement! We moved to the back in the second night and slept a lot better. The beds had soft spring mattresses which we were really happy about - unfortunately one bed was broken so the bed sank right down in the middle. The breakfast is simply toast and jam - and tea and coffee available throughout the day at no charge. This is nice but not really “breakfast”. We had the same thing at a hotel in KL but they offered it only as a courtesy rather than offering bed and breakfast. The hostel was fairly stylish if a bit tired. I would have loved it as a twenty something backpacker. As a family we felt a little out of place and my son simply stepping heavily in the stairs and running in the hallway - as four year olds do - drew many remarks from the staff. The communal bathrooms were clean and stocked with soap. The location is great. I would recommend this place if you want to be totally in the thick of things and sleep isn’t super important to you!! I would not recommend for a family.
