Convenient location, value for money, clean”
Old Penang guesthouse was a pleasant surprise for the price we paid. We were not expecting much since it was so cheap but the receptionist who welcomed us went out of her way to give us a map and show us where we could find various types of food in Georgetown. The shared bathrooms were quite clean. Not much light in the room but it’s sufficient to just sleep at night. A/C in the room was good too. My only feedback would be to improve on the breakfast, but being in Penang it’s quite easy to skip the free breakfast and go out and find something else to eat. Bread with butter & jam & cereal with milk is a good spread if they weren’t the generic brands that didn’t taste as good as the original products.

Beautiful hertiage building, clean, centrally located, and economical”
I frequently travel to Penang once every couple of months and this is now my go-to guesthouse. It's a one-minute walk from Chulia Street, right in the middle of all the food stands, cafés, and restohookahbars, but far enough removed to be out of earshot from the din of the reggae dens and clubs. The building is heritage. I'm convinced the floors—beautiful tiling—are original. The common area is an old courtyard that has since been covered by transparent roofing, so it's cool and relaxing. Breakfast is complimentary and the coffee is pretty good. I stayed in a single room this time, which was small yet comfortable. All bedrooms, including the dorms, are air-conditioned at a well-regulated temp. The beds are comfortable. Free towels are provided and wifi is not bad as long as you're in the common area. The bathrooms, shared, are constantly cleaned and there are plenty of toilets and shower stalls for guests, thus not very crowded in the morning. The staffers have always been very kind to me (even if I return early in the morning after they've locked up and have to wake them to unlock for me!). I've stayed at other guesthouses in the area and I can say this is one of the best. If you're looking to economize but don't want to sacrifice comfortability or cleanliness, this is the place to stay.

Perfect Location”
Only for a night and I wish I could stay longer! The Indian lady at the counter was friendly and helpful. The location is superb, right in the middle of Georgetown, walking distance to the nearest Char Kuey Teow, Durians, and other street foods during the night. I walked to Chulia Street, Little India, Armenian Street, all the artsy murals and the terminal bus jetty too to catch busses to Sungai Nibong Bus Express Terminal and other touristy places. Everything looks well-maintained, clean and you can feel the old Penang vibe too!

Nice little place”
Not really a guesthouse, more of a hostel situated in a tourist area of Georgetown. Lots of backpackers and street art, also lots of restaurants and a hawker hall located at the end of the street. HOWEVER, this is not a quiet place as it gets noisy due to the pubs playing loud music till around midnight. Note, I got a single room however room cleaning is only offered after 3 nights. It is a nice place situated in an old building with many things nearby but if I went to Penang again I would try and find somewhere else to stay. Also WIFI does not work in the room, but works in the common area.

Great place to stay on a budget!”
The staff were so helpful here. They went out of their way to recommend restaurants, travel information and answer questions. The room is good for the price. I stayed in a single room and they offered me earplugs because sometimes the music on love lane is a bit loud but I wanted the room close to the wifi so I was near the front. I was working online and have to say the wifi wasn't great. But I had a simcard so I used my hotspot when it was too slow. The location is great. It is walking distance from Little India and Chinatown. There is bus about 100m away you can get to Penang Hill, Batu Ferringgi Beach or Kek Lok Si Temple. They serve toast, fruit and tea/coffee for breakfast. Tea, coffee and water are available for free all through the day which of course is good if you're on a budget too! I liked the building it is a wooden floor old style colonial building with high ceilings etc. not the super fancy posh style hotel. Overall I would highly recommend this place.

Good place to stay for a short trip!”
Breakfast was good, they serve bread for you to toast or eat it with a few types of spread plus free flow of coffee or tea for breakfast. Water dispenser also there for you to refill, just don't forget to bring your own bottle. Just some tips, kindly ask for room at the back side of the guesthouse if you want some good sleep because there are many bar that play loud music in front of the guesthouse. If you don't mind loud and noisy environment to sleep you can choose the front side. Please be advised parking for car can be a bit troublesome if you return late to the guesthouse, you cannot simply park at the area in front of the bar because they will add more table/seat at the parking spot. But they have paid parking lot beside the guesthouse if you don't mind to pay ;)

Central location in Georgetown. Comfortable and Clean Guesthouse”
I stayed in single bed room with shared bathroom and have no complaints. The guesthouse is in a central location and easy to access restaurants and attractions in Georgetown. The room was basic, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast is toast and fruit, but there is a kitchen that can be used if you wish to purchase and make your own. Staff are friendly and accommodating.

Great location, lot of character”
The guesthouse is ideally located in Georgetown, close to lots of great street food. The place was clean, and we had the room at the back which was reasonably quiet. There are bars nearby which frequently have live music

Excellent”
Great location, in the heart of Old Penang right beside Chulia Street, good food around, bus stop near by, nice and helpful staff if you need anything. Simple but good breakfast. If I return to Penang this is one of the spots to check for rooms.

Excellent little spot ”
Beautiful huge old building set in the heart of Georgetown. Lots of space and cool in the rooms. The owners were very helpful when I made a booking error and I could use their phone. Free breakfast and tea/coffee. Free shower wash and decent showers. The wifi was glitchy but that's Malaysia for you.

Signature old house in love lane.”
This is an over 100 years old house. Guesthouse hosts maintain this in good quality and very friendly. Since always open main door and located in old block, so some mosquitoes flys in room or public area.

Great backpackers location”
This guesthouse is great for getting around georgetown, the breakfast is just toast & some cut fruit. The bathrooms are really clean, the bed is comfortable. Would definitely recommend staying here

Not the best, but convenient”
This guesthouse is quite simple, the location is the part that stands out the most, less than 100mts away from all of the bars and restaurants of Georgetown, very convenient if that's your vibe. Breakfast is basic, but it will be enough to start your day, I think the A/Cs of all of the private rooms and dorms work very well

Exceptional”
Nice guesthouse, very similar to the 80's guesthouse, which is actually owned by the same people. It is a bit cheaper but also a bit less cozy than the 80's. The room and common area were very clean though and the staff also very friendly. I recommend it

Didn't want to leave!”
Loved our stay here. Double room was lovely and comfortable with a spacious bathroom and high ceilings. Place has a lot of character which suits Penang. Amazing location to bars, Chinatown and little India. Only complaint was that wifi was very on and off.

Decent guesthouse in strategic location :)”
The location is the best, in the center of Georgetown. So convenient to go to everywhere and there is 7-11 closeby as well. The building give you the bostalgia feling and the staffs treat you friendly, which make you feel like you are visiting a relative's house instead! I like it. However, since the building is old, they have wooden floor. When other tourists walk passby, the floor shake and it becomes a bit noisy. Another thing is that it can be noisy in the evening because the shops closeby are mostly bar that open songs until late at night. But overall, a nice place worth staying!

Nice hostel - not family friendly”
We - myself, my husband and our 4 year old -stayed two nights at this hotel. We checked in very late on the first night. This hotel is on a party street. Our room was at the front and we may as well have had our bed on the pavement! We moved to the back in the second night and slept a lot better. The beds had soft spring mattresses which we were really happy about - unfortunately one bed was broken so the bed sank right down in the middle. The breakfast is simply toast and jam - and tea and coffee available throughout the day at no charge. This is nice but not really “breakfast”. We had the same thing at a hotel in KL but they offered it only as a courtesy rather than offering bed and breakfast. The hostel was fairly stylish if a bit tired. I would have loved it as a twenty something backpacker. As a family we felt a little out of place and my son simply stepping heavily in the stairs and running in the hallway - as four year olds do - drew many remarks from the staff. The communal bathrooms were clean and stocked with soap. The location is great. I would recommend this place if you want to be totally in the thick of things and sleep isn’t super important to you!! I would not recommend for a family.

Perfect place to stay at in Penang. Stylish hostel, with nice and clean bedrooms, and good offer for breakfast (included) and free coffee, tea and water. Shared bathrooms are not a problem as they are very clean and actually very nice. Definitely recommend it!
