"While my room is small, it is very well designed and thought of, I loved the low window by the bed where I can just stay there and stare out at the city beyond."

Wonderful relaxing atmosphere in the middle of Tokyo”
We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Yuen. We booked the smaller room since the bigger ones were already booked. The room was very clean and had a great view. It was indeed small but plenty of space for 2 people to move around in. The onsen is amazing and has a great view of Shinjuku. I also have to recommend the breakfast. It tasted amazing and fresh, and it was a real experience. Next time we're in Tokyo we'll definitely book here again.
Cozy stay perfect for those who want to escape from daily stress”
The environment of the whole place was very quiet and comfortable. My luggage's roller is the only thing that was noisy. Staffs were super friendly. Onsen on the top floor with city view is simply too amazing. Will definitely consider Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku again for my future visit!
Traditional + Modern Paradise”
Gorgeous traditional Japanese design themes expressed in modern austere style. Every detail polished to perfection. Pictures don't do this hotel justice. Incredible 18th-floor views of Tokyo from within the rooftop ofuro (hot tub), and in the zen relaxation room. A real design triumph. Westerners with little experience in Tokyo will complain that the rooms are too small. Ignore those reviews. Come to terms with Japanese scale and enjoy this oasis. Note that most of the guests are foreigners, many of whom don't know how to use a Japanese onsen. If you are looking for a more authentic local onsen experience, head to a more traditional ryokan (inn) elsewhere in an onsen region such as Ikaho, Kustatsu, Hakone, etc. A note for families: this hotel's sophisticated atmosphere would be wasted on kids. Parents parents might want to opt for something a little more "family friendly" (especially those travelling to Japan for the first time).
The relatively remote location is compensated by the beautiful hotel”
about 20 minutes walk off Shinjuku station (an easy walk with very little uphill/downhill). The hotel itself is very modern and introduced a lot of ryokan items, such as the bamboo flooring, yukata and the onsen. Big plus includes laundry facilities, onsen, lounge, vending machines... The room is really small in comparison to other small rooms that I have experienced in Tokyo but it's nicely designed. Highly recommend as it's value for money as well.
Exceptional”
Our only tiny complaint is the size of the room (smaller than expected). Still, you get used to it and the room is beautiful and clean. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was great. The onsen was amazing. My girlfriend and I used the onsen 4 times across our 4-night stay; it was that nice and relaxing. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel is in a great location in Shinjuku as well. The only difficulty might be that the hotel is so new that taxi drivers sometimes had a hard time finding it. Still, if we ever go back to Shinjuku, we would likely stay here again. Cannot say enough good things about this hotel.
Wonderful stay at a very zen boutique hotel with amazing design!”
One of the best designs I've ever seen in a Japanese hotel. Rooms are typically small but they designed to use the space to its max that you don't even feel that the room is that small. Gorgeous signages and brand design (love the concept of connecting storylines with the line) throughout the hotel. The hotel is extremely zen and calm - once you step inside, you're met with calming music that transports you to another world. Wonderful staff who speaks English and are very helpful. Accommodated all our needs professionally. Relatively new hotel I believe, so things are very clean and nice. Onsen (hot bath) was a lovely thing to have at the hotel, with both outdoor and indoor onsens (and amazing city view!). Location was a bit of a walk from Shinjuku Station (around 15minutes) but located in a very lovely small street. The closest subway exit should be E1 instead of C7 though, more walk underground but with lift so don't need to carry luggage up the stairs. A wonderful stay!
Quaint little onsen”
The ryokan is located a 10 minute walking distance away from Shinjuku Sanchrome Station. Convenience stalls like 7-11 and Family Mart were along the same stretch. Room is slightly smaller than expected but understandable for Tokyo. Onsen had an amazing view. A really nice getaway from the city!
Exceptional”
This was an excellent place to stay with a wonderful rooftop onsen. The view over Shinjuku from the outdoor bath at sunset was especially memorable. The room itself was good but not great. There was a lack of storage space and the sink's water pressure was poor. Furthermore, the lifts were occasionally slow. Overall though, this comfortable, spotlessly clean ryokan is highly recommended.
Great time”
We enjoyed the experience, the hotel was great and the onsen was fabulous. If you're not used to Japanese style rooms (smaller) then don't book this place. If you do, embrace it, or don't complain. I've been to dozens of hotels in Tokyo and this one takes it. Complain about a peaceful onsen experience on the rooftop of a new hotel in Shinjuku and be laughed at.
The oasis in bustling Shinjuku”
We found the place with authentic design of Japanese ryokan in Shinjuku area and vicinity as the hotel itself is not close to JR Stn, 800-900m walk which is acceptable in cool days. The room size is small as we anticipate. Bedroom, shower, tub and toilet are well designed in very limited space. The onsen on roof top is unique and a must try.
Exceptional”
PROS: Exceptionally clean, new facilities, friendly staff, comfortable bed and linens, nice bathroom, 7-11 directly across the street with an ATM that works with many foreign cards, quick walk to many restaurants and bars yet quiet neighborhood, onsen on the top floor (18) offered exceptional views with large indoor and outdoor soaking tubs, bathing, and grooming facilities - don't come here and not use it, it's the primary reason to book this hotel CONS: My room was a small double and it is VERY small with no closet for luggage storage but fine for two of us with minimal luggage; it would be perfectly adequate for most single travelers. We only used the room to sleep so the size was not a problem but if you are concerned by this book one of the larger rooms. The hotel is around a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station which is just two stops from Shinjuku Station, again not a problem for us but if you have any mobility issues consider accommodations closer to a large station.

Stylish hotel with exceptional customer service”
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Service was amazing, staff spoke english (thankfully as I hadn't unfortunately learnt any Japanese). Hotel was very stylish and calming. Great location - 15 -20 min walk to Shinjuku Station. 7 ELEVEN across the road. Onsen was fabulous. Rooms are on the smaller size, but beautifully presented with all the amenities you need. Cant comment on food as we didnt eat at the hotel, though you can book traditional meals if you wish. Hotel very accomodating and were happy to hold our luggage until our flight later in the day. Would absolutely recommend this place!
Exclusive and unique but affordable”
Glad we found this gem! Hotel was brand new at the time of our stay. Nicely done boutique style hotel, highly instagramable! Abt 7mins walk to nearest train station and 15mins walk to Shinjuku shopping area (Isetan/Shinjuku train station). The rooms in undeniably small but it’s the Tokyo standard I guess but they are clean and comfortable.
Exceptional”
The room is small if you have large luggages. Love the onsen on the rooftop which is great to soak in after a whole day of walking around. It can get busy at times. The bathroom is a good small size with walk in shower. It is an 8-10 mins walk to the closest subway station which isn't too bad. JR shinjuku station is under 800 yen by taxi.
surprise to me, they have onsen (hot spring) free to the guests”
Surprise to me, they have onsen (hot spring) free to the guests, and it has nice city view as well on top of the building. Super clean (but typical small Japanese-size) room, and very nice and professional staff. 15min away from Shinjuku station. Very recommended!
good experience but still get space to improve ”
It's a very decent hotel and located nearby the most popular shopping area Shinjuku, easy to go for shopping and enjoy the local food which is surrounded by many of those. Convenient enough that there are 7-11, Family and Lawson close to the hotel. The metro station is not far but still need some walks, i think Shinjuku Sanchomae is the nearest one for visiting the city. The Hot spring is great but smell not like a real hot spring, i don't know. The hot spring is in the highest floor of the hotel that you can enjoy the night view with their supplies like ice stick, cool walter. The room is very very small that u can bearly walk if ur suitcase is fully opened, the decorations are very nice. Not knowing if the training to the staffs has been delivered well, the cleaning is not good enough but tolerated. The stays in here is still great and technically satisfied.
ONSEN IN THE CITY”
the hotel provide good onsen on the top roof!! on the 18th floor. you can enjoy shinjuku view from rooftop. location is 5 mins walk to shinjuku main road, 7/11 is opposite the hotel so super convenient to buy all food. Laundry is also very useful if u need to clean clothes.
Amazing hotel”
Pros: new hotel so expect super clean facilities. The smell of the wood is still there. I like the dim light in the onsen. Quick check in/out. 7-11 right in front of the hotel and large grocery nearby. Cons: quite a walk from Shinjuku main station.
Beautiful hotel”
Very nice hotel with minimal Japanese style decor throughout. Incredible views from the onsen on the top floor. Restaurant was very classy; we didn’t stay for breakfast but dinner was lovely. Staff are friendly and welcoming and spoke good English. Convenience store directly opposite if you need any essentials. About ten minutes walk from Shinjuku station. Wish we could have stayed longer.
