Located in the heart of Chinatown, Opera House Hotel is brilliantly appointed and fantastically located that offers all the luxuries of the finest hotels in Chinatown combined with the benefits of the Opera House name. Steeped in the Chinese culture and history brought here by the earliest immigrants to the city. Only a 5 minute walk from China Town MRT and 10 minutes’ walk to Raffles Place, Clarke Quay and Boat Quay, the property offers easy access to the city's must-see destinations.
Opera House Hotel was once a famed Chinese opera house known as Lai Chun Yuen, located in the heart of Chinatown. Opera stars came all the way from China and Hong Kong to perform here before it was converted into a cinema in the early 1900’s until it was bombed in World War II. It was then left in appalling condition and needed much restoration work to restore the building back to the standards that can been seen today.
At the hotel’s doorstep you’ll be offered culinary delights unlike anything else in the city from the district’s bustling, lively and delicious restaurants, with local hawker’s stalls surrounding the hotel. Guests of the hotel can enjoy on-site features like free Wi-Fi in all rooms, daily housekeeping, luggage storage, laundry service and dry cleaning. In addition, all guestrooms feature a variety of comforts. Many rooms even provide air conditioning, flat screen TV with satellite/cable channels and hair dryer to please the most discerning guest. With an ideal location and facilities to match, Opera House Hotel hits the spot in many ways.

simple. close to town”
i took the room as i was watching a late nite movie... amazing. didnt expect to find a hotel in the middle of chinatown with such historical design! love it! very convenient to all entertainment and food too!
Strategically Located at the Heart of Chinatown”
The hotel is located strategically and at the heart of Chinatown. Therefore, you will never get starve as the restaurants or hawker stalls is only a stone's throw away. The only tricky part is that the Google Map app doesn't seemed to be able to show the more convenient route of getting to the hotel, but it took me a while to find it and a big round instead. The hotel is very near to the iconic sculpture at Chinatown, with convenient store next to it. Unfortunately, the bathroom that I got was experiencing slow bathroom drain. I was worried that the water might overflown. So I have to wait for the water goes down, while I took my shower. The hotel management staff may have to check the system in this.
2 Nights at OHH”
I've stayed here many times in the past when it was still called Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen. The facilities are the same as the past, but the receptionists are now friendlier and more helpful. This is a great place to stay if you just need a place to take a shower and lay your head at night. Very close to the MRT station and surrounded by many great places to eat. In the back entrance, there is a 7 Eleven right next door.
Ok, the room was quite small but the location and price were excellent and the staff could not have been any friendlier or more helpful. Really, they were delightful and the foyer and whole story of the hotel is enchanting.
Excellent location, near Chinatown MRT Station (DT19), market. Except for noise at night as we stayed during Chinese New year Festival (there is night street market, food street that open until 11:30 pm, and their advertising music are so loud)
Safe, reliable, and very convenient place to stay at Singapore because it is next to a Hawker, and Chinatown is filled with the best food in Singapore. We've stayed here before but with a different management (I guess). We arrived early on the first day, and we were so tired we had to sleep in the lobby before they allowed us to do an early check in with extra 45SGD. Sad because I knew their rooms were not fully booked, and i had to ask twice. The first concierge was cold, the 2nd one was more accommodating. (maybe because she felt sorry we looked so tired after a rey eye flight). Overall though, would still stay here again and again and again because of the convenience of the hotel.
The best location, well maintained heritage building ”
My partner and I enjoyed the location, the history that the building comes with. The actual rooms are ok - not the cleanest but tolerable. Needs an update but has great potential!
Rooms were very small, the bathroom in particular where the shower is basically over the toilet. However, staff were friendly and helpful and the location was good, very close to the train station. We had problems with our key card so every day we had to keep going back to reception to get them re-programmed and when we were staying for four days, it was not ideal.
This is a good hotel, well located in Chinatown, not far from MRT and easy walk to river area. The room was small but clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The wifi worked well enough. There was a safe in the room.
The staff are very helpful. I required a room change and was given a very positive response. The staff member was courteous and most understanding. Made this stay perfect! I would book again here because the location is so central.
Positives: Fantastic location in china town, close to shopping and best of all Eat Street (literally two steps from the door) Negatives: No bar fridge in room (hot days and no place to put my beer, Had to drink it fast before it went hot). Also no coffee/ tea making facilities in room (central area on each floor) and finally Breakfast is down the street at a cafe. Funny to watch first timers walking down in PJ's.
This is our second time around in SG and I specifically booked this hotel because of it's location. If you are new, you might have a hard time finding this hotel since the sign is a bit small. Also they have an entrance and exit both in front and back. The bed is average and everything is okay for us. Wifi is okay also. Staff is pure business not really smiling but helpful. But this is NEAR the TRAIN so you can go any where you want! Will definitely go back
Although the room was small which was expected, it was clean. The T&B was in excellent condition and with a bit of space compared to other places. The lobby was always been silent and I like the design and style. The staffs were accommodating also. It is located in a good location, near the MRT Station, market, and street vendors. All in all, it is a place I would recommend to my friends.
Very peculiar hotel, nice experience!”
Totally different from any hotel I stayed before, very Chinese style of course, but the atmosphere is very peculiar with all the soft lights and the railings all around. The room has this type of style too, I like it. Very good location, close to mrt with a lot of restaurant/street food nearby. Kind and accommodating very nice staff.
It was our first time in Singapore and we were both amazed on how near it was by the train station. The location was ideal because it is beside a hawker location and a very busy food street which means we never got hungry. We were a bit surprised that the the lobby was all red. And a bit surprised that the hotel used to be a cinemahall or entertainment center. Great service as well. Just that the room was really small, just good enough for travelling and for travelers who would rather go around the city instead of staying in the room.
Boutique hotel in Chinatown”
If you are looking for a quirky boutique hotel then this former opera house bedecked in plush red décor fits the bill. The rooms are small and I mean small but for a few nights sleep it is excellent value.
Very nice hotel”
This hotel has a perfect location in the middle of Chinatown. 5 minutes walk from exit A of Chinatown MRT. Dining complex all around hotel, back front both side, it is just perfect for holiday. Those who need Halal food can cross the chinatown bridge to people's park complex and find Nasi Lemak or Waroeng Padang food stall. Staff very helpfull and polite, they still gave me room eventhough it was earlier than their check in time. Surely will comeback
Cheap and great location”
I've stayed here more than 10 times. The location is great as it is very close to the MRT and many great places to eat. If you are looking for a place to relax, then this is not the place for you as the area is pretty noisy until late at night and the bed is not really that comfortable. I keep coming back, but I like the location and price and I already know what I'm getting.
Good Location & Nice Receptionist”
The location is easy to find and surrounded by the Chinese foods. Nice Receptionist, I forget the name but she was a bit old ladies, she took me & my luggage to the room and introduce everything. If I have the second chance this place will be my second time. :)
A value hotel with excellent location where you can access to other part in Singapore easily. However, as a person who understands a bit of Chinese culture, it is a bit strange and scary to have a red lobby and monochrome Cantonese Opera photos.
