The hotel is very nice and the staff is v friendly. They serve u tea n coffee in the evening which is rarely seen in other hotels. Very welcoming and positive approach. Wi-Fi is also superb. Value for money. Had a pleasant stay without any problems
Good value for money ”
Hotel is dated, but clean and comfortable. Bathroom was clean and bedsheets and towels clean. Our room was vet spacious. The hotel location was good, away from city center but close enough to take 5 minute taxi ride to get to city center. The only con was traffic noise at night and incessant barking of dogs on the street.
Small but nice”
The hotel is not so big but clean with the good service
The hotel is located in a good location
I have stayed at the Orchid a number of times although an older Hotel is still goid Value, free coffee and Juice in the Lobby along with local an International Newspapers! Staff will go out of their way to be helpful! There is some street noise so keep this in mind when booking, but I would still recommend it!
The hotel staff were extremely helpful, and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Outstanding value for money. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
A very friendly hotel! ”
Everything is nice here. The staff is friendly and very helpful, complimentary drinks (good coffee and milktea) is provided in the lounge, good breakfast. Some of us were sick during the trip and the hotel took care of us very well. Highly recommend.
Relative to other recent hotel experiences Orchid Hotel itself provided a fairly comfortable stay. However there are resident women and one female night receptionist trying to work the policy against outside call girls to their advantage, and there are attempts from the neighborhood to flush guests out. Myanmar is a very poor, very conservative country that speaks English, produces a tremendous amount of heroin and meth, and is home to a very large transient Muslim population. All that in mind, one does not expect to be harassed primarily by Americans, but the business those Americans are doing in Myanmar is reflected in their behavior. There was some problem with cockroaches and street noise even in an upper floor, and I believed that the local center of surveillance and harassment may have been the nearby mosque, some association of Muslim men upset with America and/or Tatmadaw. Elsewhere it might be 969 or Shan and Chinese drug dealers. All real and obvious.
This hotel offered the best USD exchange rate to Kyatt in town. You may change some Kyatt in airport for your teksi 8000 K from airport to this hotel; 6500k from this hotel to Aung Mingalar Bus Station. The breakfast covers local foods which you no need to risk your life for the street foods. Quiet and nice environment in view of the money you paid for single room with attached bathroom and toilet.
Extremely noisy. Quite okay stay in general”
Location is good. Hotel is very old, but well maintained. All the facilities need to be renovated, however everything in the room was working properly. Staff doing their best and trying to be helpful, however they barely speak English. So few of my request I just gave up with explaining for do I want. From the good side, staff always kibdly helped me to get a taxi and negotiated a price. The biggest disadvantages I faced is noise. My room 704 faced the main road, so 24 hours you can hear very loud sound of traffic, and sound proof of the windows is very lousy. Also I could hear clearly all the movement in the corridor. In addition, a mosques is located 200 meters from the hotel, so every morning at 4:50 i woked up for morning pray, deapite I didn't plan that. Another thing to take note, hotel policy is strictly non-visitors. it is not an advantage or disadvantage, it is just a thing to take note. If you planning to bring your friend, even if it is not a prostitute, chiose another hotel. Overall experience is quite alright.
Good value for money”
The hotel is located at the eastern part of Yangon's Downtown but the location works for me. The hotel room is quite basic but clean. It has a small fridge, TV and most of the stuff one would need. Yes, the staff is very polite, courteous and helpful and they do speak decent English.
Great hotel and staff”
We arrived early but could still check in and get the room which was perfect for us so we could drop the luggage and go sightseeing. Plus we got upgraded for a superior room! The staff was very nice and helpful and always smiling. They called the train station for us to ask for the schedule. The room was clean with a/c fridge and TV. You can get free drink on the lobby all day. Breakfast was good with variety Myanmar food. I would greatly recommend this hotel if you spend few days in Yangon.
The best place to stay i”
The hotel is clean, the staff are nice and helpful . The locations just right . Close from everything . To the city center just walking distance . Me and my husband were planing to stay in this hotel for only 3 days but because we love everything from this hotel we extended for 10 days. Any way , for sure we will go back to Yangon again very soon and of course we will stay in this hotel again
Very nice place”
I really liked their helpful staff. I could get the room before check in time, they got me the taxi at a good price to go to the airport, you can drink free coffee and tea during the day in the lobby...on thursdays free yoga class... The location is great to taste street food.
Very pleasant place to stay”
As mentioned above, at the end of the road (2 blocks away) there's Buddha's First Sacred Hair Relic Botataung (spelt differently according to different maps) Pagoda, and vibrant local outside market if u r really stuck for something to do, but otherwise best to see other sights. Again on the same road, just 2 or 3 minutes walk from hotel is Min Thaw Khant Travel & Tours Travel Agency. There u can book bus trips and flights. Hotel manager was kind enough to phone for me and then asked concierge to take me there to show me where it is - not open until after 9am. Booked my internal flights from there to Bagan, from Bagan to Heho, and from Heho back to Yangon. N.B. if you want to walk inside National Kantawgyi Garden you will have to pay a small entrance fee, plus small additional fee if you want to take photographs. (Same was true at Shwedagon Pagoda, entrance fee plus fee to take photos.) Not really a great deal to see in Kantawgyi Garden, but I didn't begrudge paying the different fees if it helps to pay for the up-keep of the park, but you can quite easily walk along pavement by the side of the park without having to pay any entrance fee.
Great value for money”
I spent 2 nights at start of my holiday at Orchid Hotel and 1 night at the end. BTW the cheapest taxi fare from Orchid Hotel to airport was 7,000 Kyat. Hotel was great value for money, centrally located to many of the tourist attractions, including Botahtaung Pagoda short walking distance at the end of the road (just 2 blocks away.) On 2 separate occasions 2 different taxi drivers got lost trying to find the hotel, even with the business card/map I had from Orchid Hotel (probably because business card/map was written only in English.) Good idea to mention to your taxi driver that hotel is near Botahtaung Pagoda.
Good Location/good staff-Value of money”
This hotel locate in good area (easy to walk to food shop ,Mobile phone shop, others.) The hotel upgrade my room from standard single to up level without charge.(Thanksss :-)) The staffs performance are really good and there s service mind. Hotel condition is very good and clean and comfortable. Value of money!!!
Good value for money”
For the price, this is a really nice hotel. Finding good value places is hard in Myanmar, so it was a nice surprise that this was much better quality than we thought. The staff were friendly and helpful. The wifi signal was quite weak though. Location is irrelevant because taxis are so cheap
really good staff ”
place is so old and cracks are everywhere. The hotel needs some serious maintenance.
