Room was in bad condition and lacking of facilites
The location for Oriental Rest is great! It was at the quiet end of Hikkaduwa but still a short 20-30min stroll along the beach to the city area. The staff and security guard were really nice and welcoming, always ready to help you with anything with a smile. However, the greatest downfall of this hotel would have to be the hotel and room facilities. Out of the 2 nights we were staying there, we did not have any water to have a shower on the second and third day. There was a problem with the plumbing and the entire hotel seemed like they had no access to water. There was insufficient water for us both to take a shower and we had to sleep without taking a shower and check out with a shower as well. This is not something you would expect for paying AUD$85 a night for. I am sure that the staff cannot be faulted for this, but it was a real big disappointment for us. The hotel did not have an in house cook, hence we could not have lunch or dinner in house. We had to look for other hotels to eat in and hence we did not have an opportunity to stay in the hotel and use its facilities. Hikkaduwa beach itself is flanked with many hotels that you can have meals and lounge at. But we wished we could have done it in our own hotel instead. I would not recommend staying here if they charge such a price that could not provide the basic facilities of sanitary needs and meals.

Not as advertised.
All photos showed for booking are vital. All the photos were wrong. The kitchen had no means of cooking. The cooker was disconnected. There were no cooking pots or utensils. There was no fridge or kettle. The sitting area did not exist and been replaced by a massage table. The television was disconnected and placed on a kitchen worktop. The bedroom had no furniture so everything was on the floor. The air-conditioning and hot water was disconnected in the afternoons and turned on again in evenings but told it is power cuts. All other electrics worked constantly. When owner came back he reconnected the air-conditioning plug. Also upsetting to see their poor thin dog tied on a short chain . A very badly advertised place for today's traveller.Maybe in the past it would have been different. Not recommended now. Not recommended now.

Heavenly ...!
The absolutely inviting atmosphere of Oriental we discovered the minute we walked in. The pretty building in colonial style is specially charming with simple and furniture and authentic decoration. We found the spot outside of the busy shopping area of the area hikkaduwa beach just perfect. Take a tuk tuk and within 5 min you are in the busy shopping area, restaurants and night live. Take a night walk home along the beach, about 30 min. The little garden with palm trees invites for relaxing, the two rooms upstairs have a connected balcony and you can spend the hole day there with watching the sea. The rooms downstairs each have a little terrace with comfortable chairs where you can spend time during a 10 minutes rain shower. They are small but have everything you need: aircon, fan, mosquito net etc. Breakfast is delicious with fruit, eggs, buffalo milk yogurt and honey and ocean view. Going swimming is a bit of a challenge because of some rough waves but with some training great. Water and beach are clean and the sunsets are beautiful. We can also recommend a nearby restaurant (Sunrise) for nice seafood and very friendly ownership. Last but not least the people running the Oriental are simply sweethearts. They also run the guest house Morning Star in Mirissa, which also seams to be a great place.

very disappointing!
Because of the good evaluations here, we had booked for 6 nights. After 2 nights we left. Our room was musty and nothing was working: air conditioning, fan, mosquito-net, chair, one badroom light were broken. There is no restaurant nearby. You have to walk almost half an hour to Hikkaduwa. It is not possible to swim in the beach in front of the hotel because of the currents. The beach is also dirty and we were in general very relieved as we left Hikkaduwa.

Quiet Hikkaduwa
Quiet Location, comfortable bed and great breakfast on the terrace.
This is at the quiet end of the beach, 5 rooms, a little dark but comfortable bed. The terrace is right on the beach, great to catch the sunset. Indika and his staff went out of their way to enhance my stay, helped with transport and arranged whale watching at Marissa. Be careful swimming, especially in the evening as surf is strong. Easy to get a bus anywhere. Tsunami museum is definitely worth the 15 min bus ride. Would recommend if u don't need a nightlife top up.

Fine place away from busy part of Hikka
Quiet, view, atmosphere
This place can best be described as a fusion of a hotel and homestay. There is a fine little yard and breakfast patio that looks onto the ocean. I booked on agoda but didn't know I'd get the worst room inside the house with only a view of the wall nextdoor. It was a bit musty and old. All the four rooms with balconies were occupied with couples. I may have been in the overflow room. This place had a good staff, food, location, atmosphere but rooms could be renovated. If you are there to surf, it is a 2 km walk down the beautiful beach to the rentals. If you like western food, the resort nextdoor has amazing burgers and breakfast!

Amazing beach
Beach - Staff - Food
Stayed 4 nights there-feeling alone ob this amazing beach, around 4 km long-like a little paradise! Staff was very friendly, food excelent!! Only negative thing-rooms really need to be renovated! Very basic rooms, shouldn't demand a great deal on room standard! But beside this, highly recommendable!!!

Nice staff and good breakfast
Breakfast, staff, near the beach
Only stayed one night and then we moved into the city. The staff was helpful and friendly, nice breakfast with lots of fruits. The negative part was the condition of the rooms but it was still ok. It's only 200 rs tuktuk ride from the center (5min)

Perfect Stay!
Lcoation, Value for Money, Breakfast!
This was our first stop on our Sri Lanka trip and we were off to a great start with Oriental Rest! Honestly this place is a gem. Such good value for money and really only about 1.5km down the beach from the hustle and bustle, so its super quiet. I think it was about a 2-300 SLR Tuk Tuk into town. The room was basic but had everything you needed, including a fridge to keep things cold. Breakfast was awesome and the staff were the best, so thanks so much Anura and his team! Darc & CJ
