Elegant and beautiful”
The Oriental Riverside Hotel is located in Pudong area on the river cost with beautiful view on the Bund side and oposide the Oriental Pearl Tower. This hotel has a very beautiful architecture - he is the most famous building in Shanghai. The metro station is very near. The hotel has good and polite service. Communication in English language is not an any problem there. Delicious breakfasts, internet in rooms - free of charge. One important things we should remember going there: it is necessary to have hotel name and address written in Chinese language, othervice nobody (even taxidriver) recognize this hotel in English name and also the address.

One of the top rated hotels I ever stayed”
We stayed 6 nights at the Oriental Riverside Hotel. When we walked into the room, the view from our room was spectacular. Boats with red, green and blue lights floating on the Whangpo River was simply beautiful and difficult to describe. The old Bund district that I used to see in the 1930-40 photos was still there. The service was excellent and the restaurant in the first floor was simply outstanding. I strongly recommend the Oriental Riverside Hotel to anyone who visits Shanghai.

Excellent Experience!”
This hotel has a fantastic location, with access to riverside, subway, shopping centers, restaurants, and several major sightseeing spots all within a 5-minute walk. Currently, the Bund is inaccessible because of construction for the Expo in May 2010, so all of the riverside action is on the Pudong side, making this hotel a great choice. I paid about US$60 per night and I felt it was a bargain. My room was excellent: very large, with a sweeping view from the Pearl Tower to the river. It had a huge, very comfortable bed, a flat screen TV with HBO and Max and large number of channels, and an excellent bathroom (tub and separate rain shower) and amenities. I used the fitness room several times during my stay: it was small, with a limited number and kind of machines, but the hours were generous, so I was able to exercise after dinner and a day of sightseeing. The hotel is within a 5-minute walk of the subway, so you can easily get to most sightseeing spots within 10-20 minutes (for less than US 50 cents). A taxi ride from the hotel to the Yu Gardens was quick and cheap (less than US $3). Most staff I encountered spoke fairly good English and were always pleasant and courteous. I ate at the 24-hour restaurant once, well after midnight, and I was the only one in the place (they had to turn up the lights for me). The food was acceptable but unremarkable in every way. I did not eat at their breakfast or lunch buffet because I felt there were better, more interesting options available outside the hotel. Overall, I was extremely pleased with this hotel: the location can't be beat (at the moment, at least) and the value for money was exceptional.

Best location on the Pudong side”
This is a large, Chinese, modern, 4 or 5 star hotel, not brand new but a clean hotel. It is almost on the riverfront. You get a choice of river view or other and pay accordingly. There are a handful of restaurants along the river front, and of course the ubiquitos Starbucks. Some are bars, some cafes, some restaurants. Just take yourself along for a wander and explore. It is a great view of Shanghai, seeing the Bund from Pudong s the best way to see it, especially if you settle down for a bite or a drink. All the options looked dcent, tho perhaps it can be a bit quiet. The hotel is across the road road from the Super Brand shopping mall. Getting a taxi is not too bad, but if there is either a queue, or you just don't see any taxis, then walk over to the mall where there is usually a few of them waiting on the corner. If you dont fancy the standard, expensive buffet breakfast, take yourself over to the mall to Starbucks, or Lavazza or one of the local options. There is also a metro station just a few minutes walk away.

Spadaforas' Review”
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lovely Oriental Riverside. We thought it was a charming establishment with its classic, luxurious lobby and rooms. I loved the high ceilings, the dim lighting, the glass elevators, marble floors and lobby bar with the grand piano playing relaxing music. The hotel room itself was well appointed and spacious. We never tired of looking out the window, which offered a magnificent view of the river and the Bund. We were glad to be close to the metro, the Super Brand Mall and the walkway along the river. The hotel staff were approachable and very helpful. We couldn't ask for more.

Short Stay in Pudong”
I've stayed at this hotel many times and it is well placed for The Bund (via the Sightseeing Tunnel) and the Pudong area (Pearl, Jinmao, SWF & Shanghai Towers). The staff are excellent and rooms clean & well serviced, although the fixtures & fittings are now suffering from ageing. One slight glitch, the booking was for a "Superior River and Bund View", Room 382 isn't! No view of the bund and virtually no view of the river, the odd large boat transiting the river "gives the game away". Local amenities are great, try the Blue Frog Bar & Grill, it's still there but now located opposite the Super Brand Mall.

What a lovely surprise”
I arrived there and, much to my relief, the reception was really impressive. Although I had to wait a while at reception to check in, they told me that I had been given an upgrade to a deluxe room with a view. The room was amazing. I stay in good hotels and had just arrived from the Shangri-La Hotel in Fuzhou. The Shangri-La hotels are generally my favourite hotels but I have to say that this was better than that and at approximately half the price. The room was huge with computer fully connected to the internet. The view was absolutely stunning of the bund the the river with the boats sailing by. I was enchanted. I would definitely go back to this hotel again and will be recommending it to all of my colleagues on the international circuit. The river was just a 150 metres away and, althoug there is some building work going on in the vicinity in preparation for Expo 2010, this didn't affect my stay and will make it even better next year. I can't tell you how impressed I am with this hotel.

Oriental Riverside on the Bund”
The Oriental Riverside Hotel in Pudong would cater well to business clientelle. The services offered are all good quality. The hotel is kept clean and tidy, in a very professional manner. The costs of living (ie: food/beverages, internet access) is what one should expect in a world class business hotel. The staff is well versed in the english language and there were no issues with communication (hotel reception, operator, concierge, bell boy, pool reception). This hotel is within walking distance to many of Shanghai's landmark attractions, namely the Bund, Oriental Pearl TV Tower, JinMao and Shanghai World Financial skyscrapers, making this hotel location and all of the services close by expensive. You may wish to go to a different neighbourhood to find some food staples (bar fridge in hotel room) and save on food/drink costs. Overall, very pleased with staff, premises, and location.

Oriental Riverside Bund View Hotel”
My business is predominantly in and around Pudong making the Oriental Riverside a great base. It does however also provide easy access to the Puxi side. I usually travel to Shanghai for one week at a time and whilst I have tried many other hotels, the Oriental Riverside is my favourite. It is walking distance to most of the major business offices in Pudong. It provides great access to shopping malls and a huge variety of restaurants around the IFC and riverside area. The hotel has a huge gym with all the latest equipment, and best of all, it seems nobody ever uses it. There is a great sauna and steam room, also hugely under-utilised. Access to the boardwalks along the river provide plenty of areas for a run and exercise. The rooms themselves are as large as you will find anywhere. Whilst the decor may be a little old, I have always found it to be clean and functioning well. Bottom line, great value for money!!

Shanghai Expo Visit”
A very clean, comfortable and recently refurbished hotel in a perfect location for all Shanghai Bund/Riverside attractions. Located within easy walking distance of Metro station so really easy to travle around the City. Unfortunetly the Health Club and Swimming Pool were still being refurbished at the time of visit so unable to use them.(This wasn't advised when booking, nor when checking in - disappointed by this). Bar & Food prices quite high (approx. £21 per person for Breakfast is excessive). Not many people seemed to be using the Restaurant or Bar during the time we visited, but there are many varied places within a few hundred metres of the Hotel some very reasonably priced. Would recommend this Hotel though as the location is perfect and overall standards were good - we enjoyed a very pleasant stay.

Good Views but Expensive Financial District”
Same as my other review - stay was broken up by one day visit to Wuzhen for eclipse. First room we stayed in was very mouldy. Looked like it flooded at one time. Second stay was a business room. Though smaller than standard, it smelled a lot better. Nice views on either tower/finacial side or river/Bund side. Hard time communicating with staff in English. Breakfast was not very good. Cerial setup bad, nothing tasting very good. Ok for free but not worth 185 RMB that's for sure. There is a Subway next to Oriental Pearl and in Super Brand Shopping Mall - This is huge with expensive stores but great for restaurants and there is a market in basement with everything! Get your beer here and snacks here to put in fridge. Very crouded area due to tourists visiting tower and riverwalk. Don't bother going across Pedestrian tunnel (50 RMB) for the famous skyline view as they have blocked the entire length off with a wall due to construction! This fact alone ruined my trip there as I really wanted that picture for my wall. Hotel does not have good maps. Find street map at tourist center in town. #2 subway is across from tower. Can take Maglev (50 RMB) from airport to Longyang #2 line to Lujiazui stop. Problem is the subway stairs with large bags. So take taxi from Maglev (~38 RMB). Or taxi directly from Pudong airport - max 150 RMB. Don't visit China in July at all costs. Too hot and humid to enjoy yourself. Don't visit Shanghai until they tear down wall on Bund side.

upmarket hotel”
The hotel is in a very central location right by the Oriental TV tower, we asked for a high rise room which overlooked the Bund, the views were just terrific!! The high rise rooms are all smoking rooms however after checking it out we realized that the room did not stink of cigarettes (we are non-smokers). The hotel rack rate was about $250 per night however with the agoda discount we ended up paying much less, great deal for such a huge, high quality room! There is a subway station very conveniently located approx 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

Nice hotel; decent location”
Not necessarily my taste in hotels - very not modern; lots of marble and gold trim; lots and lots of fancy luxury trappings in the bathroom and drawers were full of crap (such as wine glasses, etc.) meaning there was less storage. It's like a Chinese idea of Western luxury. It's a very nice hotel; breakfast buffet was very tasty but overpriced. Cocktails from the bar were horrible (but this is Shanghai and cocktails are still a relatively new concept.) But the downstairs bar was nice. A few language barrier issues but generally speaking the staff was helpful and helped us get cabs/write directions in Chinese/etc. Hotel is literally right next to the Shanghai Pearl Tower and a massive mall with tons of food and shopping. Also nearby: Shanghai aquarium, Jin Mao tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, Bund Sightseeing Tunnel (and thus an easy pedestrian trip to the Bund) This was a nice hotel for part of our trip - for the second part we stayed at the Regal Shanghai East Asia Hotel, *inside* of Shanghai Stadium. I preferred that hotel, because the area was a little less touristy and the hotel definitely catered more to foreign business travelers so was a bit more adept at English and special requests. But the Oriental Riverside was fun for a few days.
