“For short and really needed stays ”
This review is about a one-night stay during xmas/new year season and the conditions at the hotel during that particular time. First off, the pros: The location is the unbeatable main pro! Well situated for any need around Ongpin and Binondo Church and all of essential Chinatown. Especially the Basilica which is situated just right across the street. The size of the room is also not that bad and my room had two windows with fresh air, which is a plus for good air circulation. The receptionist was nice and check-in and check-out were instant. There was no deposit at check-in. The bathroom kit and the bedsheets plus the extra blanket that the receptionist courteousley gave me, upon my request, were okay according to my standards. Secondly, the cons: The cleaning of the room on all levels left much to ask for. I tidied up a bit of it myself. The room has no double lock, not even a simple one. The bathroom had no lock at all. The TV did not work. There's no telephone in the room to reach the lobby, so you need to go down if you have an errand. The water heater worked sometimes and sometimes not. Same thing with the toilet flush, sometimes working, sometimes not, you might need to add some water to the big basin to get it started, if urgent. The last 90 minutes I stayed in the room the water did not run at all. I told a staff about it and he said it would be fixed "in five minutes". Half an hour later when leaving the room not a drop of water had yet surfaced. For sensitive travelers: The building is noisy though walls are all concrete. My outer door to corridor was right beside my bed. There were some guests coming in late and being loudmouthed for over an hour, I thought they stayed next doors to me, it proved they stayed at another room away in corridor yet their noise was present all around. Mind you, this was at new years eve, so you have to tolerate it, but overall the issue of noise abound any day. There were several mosquitos in the room. You might consider bringing an insect spray during mosquito season. Some moth also roam around, I did not however spot even a tiny cockroach. At least during holidays you would hear the loudspeakers from the Basilica as the masses are held any hours. Summary: If you have an urgent practical need in the area, or are on a budget and want to stay in the area, this place is endurable for shorter stays of a night or two with no expectations of any real comfort. Don't expect anything overperforming and be happy for the things that might work at chance.
