Paihia hotels & places to stay

Great find and a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of the main strip of Paihia but still easily accessible by walking or car. Great views of the ocean; we had a poolside studio that was well appointed and had comfortable beds to sleep in. Also had a mini kitchenette area that was great to utilise. Poolside studio can get a little noisy when children are running about but manageable. A little on the expensive side especially during peak holiday times.

We loved this hotel. It was very spacious and elegant and very well appointed. Our only criticism was there was no air-conditioning. We had a 2 bedroom apartment and my husband and I stayed in the second bedroom. It was quiet hot and stuffy in the night and there was no window that we could open to let in fresh air. We would have appreciated some air con. Also the pool was too cold for us to swim in.

My husband and I stayed at Aloha for 3 nights and were very happy with everything. Its grounds are spacious and full of amenities. I commented to my partner that it would be a great place to bring children since they would be easily entertained. The furniture in the room was a bit out of style but functional and clean. It was a great value for all its perks. We had a lovely stay and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Paihia, as it was a quick and pleasant walk into town.

Booked a room for that says for 5 guests for 175nzd. When we arrived we got charged for 2 extra persons as the booking is for only 2 persons. Nevertheless, my family and I had a very nice stay in Paihia. Our room has a very nice view of the sea, it is just across the beach, centrally located close to shops and major attractions. The room is very tidy, bathroom is exceptionally clean! It was raining all day when we arrived but we still enjoyed because we were just relaxing in the room, enjoying the view. Just a few cons though- my mom was scratching all night, looks like she was bitten by some insect while she was in bed. And there was a weird noise when we turn the tap on in the kitchen.

This was a great place to stay. Quite area and a comfortable bed. My only issues were it’s not in the main area of Paihia, there’s no where to eat close by so you have to be willing to walk 20-30 mins to get to nearest restaurants and cafes. Also, information book said WiFi details were on the tv panel but I couldn’t find them and because I was out the majority of the day there was never anyone in reception for me to ask when I got back.

Perfection in paradise. From the warm greeting on arrival to our tears when leaving The Sanctuary, this is the place to stay in Paihia. The hosts go above and beyond with 5 star meals, perfect site seeing recommendations, lively conversation, picture perfect views and a massage like no other. Hopefully this review won't prevent us from getting a booking in the future.

This is the hostel to stay when you're in Paihia. It's the best location, pretty much next to bus stop, across ferry and in between the shops. The facilities are good (nice/big kitchen, good lounge,). Bathroom is clean and has enough space. Everything is new which is nice. The bed (I stayed in a shared dorm for 4) was good too. Good matrass, light and socket and a curtain for privacy wich I think is really nice. I would definitely recommend this place. There wasn't anything I didn't like.

Ive given casa Bella 5 star in all categories cause we have stayed there a few times now the down fall is WFI zabu I believe is there cheap and nasty internet provider there's a limit on the devices that can logon and you've got about 1 hour online could be shorter depending on what your viewing that's if you are able to get access which we didn't get anything at all!!!

This is an exceptional bed & breakfast. We stayed for 4 nights at the end of Oct and had the time of our life. Inge is a superb host and made us feel so welcomed. Her breakfast is to tie for - 5+ stars! And the view from the breakfast room is better than you see from the photos! Inge is very knowledgeable about the area and made excellent suggestions for places that we need to see. She also helped made tour bookings for us (with discounts!). We will definitely return and visit.

The Apartment was well maintained and appointed, but with no airconditioning and thus was exceptionally hot NB i live in Brisbane Australia and found this Apartment oppressively hot! The duty manager was very nice and helpful, but the General Manager with no apparent name was rude and hostile and not at all accommodating. There are many accommodation choices in Paihia and overall we wouldn't return and certainly not in summer.

Our first stop on our North Island tour was the Bay of Islands, and the staff at Breakwater Motel really helped our holiday get off to a fantastic start. When we checked in, I asked about what to do around Paihia, and they helpfully gave me relevant brochures and information. After picking an activity (swimming with dolphins), they rang around and found me the best time and price from the local tours, and we were all booked for the next day! They also suggested some good places to eat. The room was very pleasant; one of the few motels that we stayed in with a bedroom separate to the kitchen/lounge, and a decently-sized bathroom. Everything was nice and clean. Parking was in a bay literally right outside the front door. The WiFi actually worked, was decently fast, and the data allocation was relatively large for New Zealand (200MB each). The location is perfect: the last motel on the Paihia strip, so very quiet, but only a few minutes' walk from the central wharf area with all the shops and restaurants. The only downside to it all was it was the most expensive place we stayed in during our entire tour, but I think that reflects the prices in Paihia generally.

We came into town after most receptions were closed & booked online. It was around 10pm when we got to the hotel & it was closed too. We called & woke up Nachi but he was still pleasant & so helpful. He checked us in & even booked tours for the next day for us. We only stayed 2 nights but would stay here longer if we had the time. Room was clean & large with many amenities, & even with the energetic bar downstairs it was quiet on the top floor. Good location close to beach & 5-10 minute walk to pier/activity office; & a little bit further walk to center of town. We booked last minute & price was reasonable. Sorry for waking up Nachi!

Lesley was very welcoming when we arrived. She showed us to our apartment and recommended places that we can see and do. We did just this and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds was my partners favourite. The personalised note and the Manuka honey they left for us was a treat and the apartment itself is stunning. We wished we stayed for longer. We were here in autumn (even though it felt like summer still) and we forgot to close the bathroom window. When we got back from our adventures later that night the bathroom had mozzies lingering around, luckily there was a can of fly spray that tackled the problem. Overall we recommend this place and will be back with the rest of the family.

This property is located away from the commercial main drag of Paihia. It is situated in a quiet area with quick access to the beach, treaty grounds, cafe and supermarket. People taking Cape bus tours can be picked up on the highway, rather than walking into Paihia. Old-fashioned Bach accomodation in a great location. If you prefer a no-frills holiday house in a great location, this is for you. Great service from staff.

I got the studio 3 night special. Room was spacious, clean, comfortable and great value for money. Serviced daily. Free car park. Within walking distance to Paihia town center and ferry port. Wifi didn't have great reception but can't complain as it came free and was enough to check emails, google for information and book tours etc. If you want to watch a movie there is sky TV. I would definitely return to Averill Court and highly recommend for those who wants a comfortable place to stay.

BASE has a reputation for being a “party hostel” and they tried to meet that expectation every night at their on-site bar. Trying to find quiet is not possible, but the double private room has a fan and tv that can be used to muffle the bar noise. We liked our double room as it had an ensuite bath, and kitchenette with sink, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster at a very reasonable price for two people. The little swimming pool was clean and refreshing, which we preferred over the ocean. As with all hostels, the kitchen cooking facilities and supplies were limited. Guests could not use the bbq, but the hostel offered a 2-meat plus potatoes and salad bbq for $10. This included one beer or wine, so a good value, especially when purchasing and cooking meat in a hostel is always difficult and expensive. I would recommend this BASE hostel when travelling with a tight budget in Paihia.

Good:Super location at entry to Paihia. Short walk to beach. Close to Alfresco possibly one of the better Paihia Cafes. Bad: Motel unit was old but clean with renovated bathroom. No kitchen bench/sink; tiny TV. The worst of it was the incredibly loud pub/backpackers over the back fence with a band and outdoor yelling area that went till 3am on Friday night and nearly the same on Saturday night. Not a relaxing sleep-filled stay!!! Would not stay there again. I need my sleep!
