Unique relaxing holiday in beautiful Penang”
My partner and I had a wonderful holiday at Penang, and in great part it was due to our stay at Palanquinn Heritage Suites. The hotel is located just a short distance from Georgetown, in one of the best morning food market areas, and very close to a number of amazing restaurants and shops (from traditional small shops to luxury shops). Staff at Palanquinn Heritage Suites were so good to us, we cannot express our gratitude to them. They were constantly attentive to our needs and requirements, and so reliable to meet and even exceed all our expectations (e.g. free room upgrade to suite; arranging tours; arranging taxi rides for us; changing airport transfers to meet flight changes; etc.). We loved Penang, and will be back, and look forward to stay at Palanquinn Heritage Suites on our next trip!

Wonderful Suite and hospitality”
We really enjoyed our stay at Palanquinn Heritage Suite recently on our short stay in Penang. On arrival which was quite late a message had been left for us at the door and after a phone call to Kelvin we found our key and a very help ful map showing all the great eating places in Georgetown. No-one could have been more helpful than Kelvin and Jeremy and nothing too much trouble for them. We were in the downstairs suite and on the first night found the traffic a bit noisy but the next three nights we had no trouble at all in dropping off to sleep. A great location with a few minutes walk to the bus station into the city or out to the beach. A 15 minute walk to Gurney Plaza and also the Gurney night market where we had delicious meals. Bangkok Lane is wonderful with all the 1927 homes all intact and well maintained.

Lovely hotel, good for those who drive”
hotel with good service, very clean! we stayed in palanquinn heritage suites no.39, loft unit, we have a separate living hall, bedroom and bathroom by ourselves.. not forgetting a nice authentic balcony. the only thing i suppose it could be inconvenient for those who do not drive around with transportation, that area, you'll need to call a taxi to the nearest shopping mall, or seaside. well is not very far to walk if you dont wish to call a cab, but it will be a hot weather to walk around which takes you about 15mins walk to the nearest shopping mall, or seaside. another downside, i have to part my car out at the roadside, which i felt really insecure though nothing happened, thank god. last but not least, a little noise from 7am onwards, do bring along your ear-stud.

Stylish and Comfy Heritage Suites”
We are a family of 4 adults and we stayed during Christmas for 3 nights. We booked for both the upper Loft Suite and the lower Terrace Suite and we were happy to have the whole building all ours as the Palanquinn had just two flats for rent. I much prefer the Loft Suite for its open-air bathroom. Penang is humid and hot all year round that one may need to shower at least twice everday to keep fresh. Each morning we spent extra long time in the bathroom, hearing the birds sang while showering in bright natural sun-light. The air-con living room was also a plus, the four of us liked having breakfast in the spacious living room together with tv rather than in the balcony with mosquitos. Another advantage of the Loft Suite was that its bedroom was farther away from the road and thus quieter than the Terrace Suite. So book the Loft Suite for it worths that extra money.

Felt very authentic!”
The room was nice and spacious with an outside terrace to sit at to have breakfast (many nearby kopitiams...the one on Bangkok lane itself is halal) every morning while watching the passerby's. Bangkok lane itself had an authentic heritage feel. The staff especially the owner was extremely helpful; due to personal circumstances we needed extra help and he was just a phone call away. Eventhough not in Georgetown itself...its just a hop on a tourist bus away. Being walking distance to Gurney drive , penang street food was easy to come by. If not there are many franchise chains (dominoes etc) along jalan burma (adjacent road) also burma road itself was an nice walk. Other markets hiding in its nook and cranny. There is a Masjid nearby as well as temples. We had a blessed pleasant stay in Penang, especially at the Palanquinn Heritage suites.

A treasure in the heart of the city!”
Palanquinn Heritage suites is located in the heart of heritage area of Penang. You will surrounded by beautifully designed bungalows and old pre-war shophouses and it's just a stone throw away from Gurney Drive - Gurney Drive Street Food, Sea-Side walk, Gurney Plaza & malls. My stay very great! Kelvyn is very helpful and warm. The suite was very beautiful with the bathroom designed spaciously in a covered bathroom. My only complaint during my stay TV was not working for the first night. The ceiling fan indeed helped the high ceilined suite to be well circulated. In short, facilities, staff & location were all excellent! I arrived late (After office hours) and was greeted by a hand written welcome sign which was a lovely balcony. A small disappointment is the suite is not cleaned daily if not requested. Kelvyn & Team were extremely warm I spent 4 nights and i grave for more! It's definitely a memorable stay; I thoroughly recommend Palanquinn if you are going Penang. I have posted a handful of advertisement for them on twitter and Facebook. Already I have gotten some response. I hope they will do well and have more similar concept suites in future. I will definitely stay again with better rate of coz :P

Great choice of accommodation”
we stayed at the mezzanine suite for four nights in dec, 2012. the room was equipped with its basic necessities, including cable tv astro. wifi is available, although it may be slightly unstable if you stay on the upper floor. there are even dvds provided, which can be requested from the staff. i have to commend on the toilet: its heater and shower facilities are reliable, while the zinc roof can be adjusted by a pulley to let sunshine in during the day. however, do remind the staff to change the towels, bedsheets and what-not each morning, lest they forget. the hotel was generally cosy and quiet at nights, with hardly any ambient noise even during the new year period. having said that, you might sometimes hear noises and conversations of other guests in their rooms-- that's how close the rooms are. bottled water is provided downstairs, with a mini-fridge to keep it cold. sachets of coffee and sugar can be found in the cabinets nearby. palanquinn is wonderful in terms of its location and convenience. all it takes is a short walk past the bustling traffic to enjoy local street food in pulau tikus. meanwhile, gurney plaza is only a 15-min walk-- a giant mall with a generous mix of cafes, restaurants, movie theatre, boutiques and everything else in between. the famous anjung gurney / gurney hawker and seafood restaurants are also close by, so food choices are aplenty. getting around penang is adequately convenient if you rely on buses, considering its proximity (30 mins) to komtar bus terminal. bus stops are located along the main roads around the hotel. the staff was very warm and hospitable. credits to kelvyn and his staff for being so helpful and clear in their advice and tips about penang. their passion and knowledge of penang's heritage, attractions and quirks is evident from our conversations and enquiries. the airport transfer service provided was also prompt and very affordable; much cheaper than taking a regular taxi. however, it was initially stra

Great location in an heritage lane”
the palanquinn is an old house built in 1927 and the whole lane where the house stays is actually a row of identical buildings all in same style. the experience is truly unique. we have been handled the magnetic door key by the very friendly owner (are three partners) and we were at home! the hotel has only 2 room, actually two suits, so you really feel like going back to your heritage home after the whole day of visiting places and having fantastic m'sian food!

All the charm and simplicity of the old world”
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Palanquinn. The rooms were well preserved with old world charm at a great price. Our hosts wen tout of their way to look after us and with only 2 rooms the service was so personalised. The street was a great attraction without being heavily trafficked like the colonial district of Penang. Breakfast on the veranda was a daily treat with our hosts providing authentic Malay cuisine everyday. Highly recommended if you are sick of the Hotel scene and like to be spoiled by the hosts.

Awesome Heritage Hotel Experience in Penang”
if you want to experience an authentic heritage lodging experience, i think you'll like this place very much as we did for our three-night stay in town before heading to the beach hotels. everything is authentic including the old-style bed, opium bed sofa in the living room, waterfall show in the outdoor atrium style bathroom. the loft suite we stayed at had it's own private stairs, bedroom, atrium bathroom, living room with flat screen tv, and balcony overlooking the street. fabulous penang hawker food was just around the corner including some terrific indian-style roti with curry. host kevyln and his crew were wonderful and treated us like king and queen. highly recommended. you can't go wrong!

Nostaglic feel, a piece of history. ”
wanted to try the boutique hotels in penang and found palanquinn heritage suites, much recommended by many travelers. thought we should give it a try. we like the nostalgic feel, friendly and informative manager kelvyn makes our trip accessible with ease. the only area of concern is the mosquitoe the en-suite bathroom is a open concept, so when we open the door to access in and out, we inevitably invited the mozzies as well.my son was badly stung and needed antibiotics to alleviate the swelling. and the flooring is wooden, so if your foot steps are heavy, you will indirectly disrupt the guest staying below. something my husband didn't enjoy. but we like the tall ceiling, and the space. i will still recommend to friends to experience this.

Beautiful heritage at a convenient location”
palanquinn is located at bangkok lane, a quiet and peaceful street close to some famous temples (reclining buddha & burmese temple), a medium-sized food market (pulau tikus) and shopping mall (gurney plaza). my friend and i stayed in the loft suite on the 2nd floor. the room (together with living room and balcony) is very spacious and well decorated. staff of the place, uncle charlie is very helpful and gave good recommendations on our itinerary and transports. a great experience and highly recommended for couples or family of 4.

Chic and Comfy Heritage Suite”
We were a family of four and we occupied both the Loft Suite and the Terrace Suite. Terrace Suite was at the ground floor with attached veranda, but we never had breakfast at the veranda as there were mosquitos and its hot at the outside. The room and the bathroom was very spacious comparing with standard hotel room at most 4-star international hotels. The decorations were stylish and fancy. I especially like the rocking chair and the old Chinese cabinets. I must thanks Uncle Charlie (friend of the landlord) for his friendliness, he brought to us different breakfast and fruit every morning so that we could sample much local delicacies, he also suggested and explained to us patiently every morning on what to see and how to get to places. The only drawback of the Terrace Suite was the noise, I could hear my sister walking on the upper floor and her chat at night. Choose the Terrace suite if you were a light sleeper but the little noise didnt bothered me at all.

Vintage room, attentive satff”
We enjoyed our stay at the Palanquinn. The staff was very friendly (like all people in Penang), room was big, bathroom was huge, wifi internet fast. Close to Gurney hawker centers. Staff arranged a motorbike upon our request and we rented it for 2 days, going around the island. Booked a very nice taxi driver for us back to airport. We will definitely come back again to Penang, we loved the food, the people, the relax atmosphere.

Beautiful B&B in row of Heritage Homes in Penang.”
We planned a nostalgic trip to Penang to visit the places which were part of our life having lived there for 5 years a long time ago. I was so happy when we found Palanquin Suites, in a beautiful row of old houses (built in 1927)preserved from developers. It was a dream come true not only because of the decor, but the eye for detail was not forgotten when we mentioned the food we enjoyed when we lived there and then to have it served up to us for breakfast on the balcony made us feel we were valued guests. We stayed in the Loft and had 5 days of "walking down memory lane" The managers were so friendly and forever ready to make our stay a delight not only at the Palanquin Suites but also to see the tourist areas as well.

Super staff and great, quiet location”
This is a great base in a more quiet area of Georgetown, with several cheap, local restaurants, shops and 24 hour mini markets just a few minutes walk away and easy access to town via the frequent and cheap 101 bus service. Jennifer on reception is very helpful, the room was clean and tidy and the street is very well kept, quiet and full of character. Just a 10 minute walk from the Thai consulate if you need to arrange a visa. This is a great alternative to the usual standard hotels and backpacker hostels and we will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Georgetown - thoroughly recommended.

Good. Enjoyed our stay...feels luxurious ”
Mostly good. Except for the Very Slow Wifi service in the suites. This is the only setback. We're okay since we have local data plan but for visitors from foreign countries who rely on Wifi then this is not the best place to be. Also, it would be good if the Hotel keepers can advise us on where to park, parking procedures like parking coupon etc given that we're not from Penang and may not be aware of how the system works while trying to adhere to rules. Everything else is almost perfect.

Nice heritage location.”
I like the old shop house heritage feel as this is what travelers should experience when they visit Penang. It is not as centrally located to area like GeorgeTown but I like it there because of some of the Must try local food is located there. Easy access to George Town and Gurney drive by taxi.

Excellent! ”
This is the 2nd time that I'm here. Stayed here about a year ago and just loved this place. Best thing is that even though it has been a year, everything is looks and feels the same, the rooms, the staff...no regrets. Very convenient location, especially for food and it's just a short walk away. This will be my first choice for a place to stay whenever I'm in Penang. Highly recommended if you like the heritage and rustic feel.

Great location in an historic street”
The Palanquin Heritage Suites B & B is an ok place to stay. It was our 11th visit to Georgetown - though our first at Palanquinn. The street - Lorong Bankok - is a wonderful street of attached housing built in the 1920's and still belonging to the family who built them. The buildings are beautiful and the whole streetscape is quite magical. If you are look for a B&B with Breakfast - then this is not the place. Though there is plenty of food (street and restaurant) available very close by, the hotel does not provide food of any sort. We were also a little surprised that the rooms - we were in the Loft Suite - did not have a fridge - every other place we have stayed in Penang has been so equipped and it really suits the climate. The aircon worked well, so the room was always comfortable in the evenings. The furnishing in the Loft Suite is quite adequate, brown but mostly in a Chinese style. For the price, I would have hoped for a slightly more characterful Chinese traditional style of room, and the offer of some sort of breakfast to justify the B & B.
