Pantai Tengah is a continuation of Pantai Cenang. It lies to the south of the busy resort district and offers vacationers a quieter atmosphere with less commercialism and a better selection of secluded beaches.
Since the hotels in Pantai Tengah are tranquil and affordable, they rate well with families on holiday as well as couples looking for a romantic escape. There isn’t as much of a party atmosphere here, but there are still a few beach bars where patrons enjoy sunset cocktails or a casual evening out with a little live music.
Most of the attractions are to the north in Pantai Cenang. This is the kind of resort destination where visitors do little more than enjoy time on the beach. The fact that most of the dedicated attractions are off-site only adds to the seclusion of the area.
The best duty-free shops are also to the north, but Pantai Tengah has its own selection of boutiques selling gifts, handicrafts and clothing. There are a few stalls on the coast selling beach accessories and cheap souvenirs.
Star Cruise Jetty is operated by one of the main hotels in Pantai Tengah. It operates service to Peninsular Malaysia and Southern Thailand, so it’s possible to arrive in Pantai Tengah directly without connecting through Kuah as most ferry passengers do.
